  1. Every time I go to the doctor they recommend I get tested for Celiac. Whatever dude, you can make yourself sick if you want to, but I'm not making myself sick just so you can be happy about what I put on my plate. He still says, "We doctors just like to be sure of these things." WTF??? They didn't care to be sure of anything for the 7 years I was diagnosed...
  2. Nail biting and cheek chewing stopped for me as well. Morning panic too. You are in for a lot more surprises as your body heals. Calm feels great!
  3. Same thing happened to me. With both salty and sweet foods. Both seemed way extreme to me. But vegetables tasted better than they ever had in my life once I got off of gluten. Weird things happen once you are off of gluten
  4. The expert in Celiac disease Dr. Peter Green says DH patients have to be very patient because any tiny trace exposure to wheat can result in weeks of blisters and rash. The reaction can take up to 2 weeks to fully develop. I have been trying to heal DH sores for 7 months. I still have a few. I got glutened by a vitamin about a week ago..a little longer. I...
  5. I didn't think I was lactose intolerant either in the beginning. Cheese, milk and dairy products were my gluten free foods. Or so I thought. At first I got better off of gluten. But the progress stopped and I had to eliminate dairy. You might want to try it. The other thing I can think of is sugar bowl conatamination. If someone made cinnamon toast and...
  6. I have fingernails. I taste food. I can smell food. I have the energy to cook food. I can sleep without nightmares. I don't miss bread. I love Snickers. And best of all.... My son went gluten free and lost all of his health problems.
  7. I have a little electric skillet I take with me so I can fry up breakfast in any motel room to avoid continental breakfasts. Still have to do a grocery store stop, but it's inevitable when you travel gluten free. I watch for grocery stores now instead of restaurants.
  8. The only food group you left out is.... Snickers!! They are gluten free and helped me when I couldn't have the things I missed. Good luck, it does get easier!
  9. I think that you could brown the gluten free pasta's just as you do wheat pasta. You could also cook them in the sauce, but you are right, they might disintegrate. It's worth a try though.
  10. There are many threads and posts about the gluten/lipstick issue here on Celiac.com. After I got sick from it, I searched gluten and lipstick here and found out that it is a pretty big issue. I wasn't trying to exaggerate, I was trying to help with identifying cross-contamination sources, but I could have said "some" instead of "most" because I really...
  11. Did she use a different collander to strain it? That is very important. Just straining pasta in the same collander will gluten you. All the cross contamination concerns are real. I used to think it was a bit much and that I wouldn't be that sensitive to it. Ways to cross contaminate yourself are real and we are always finding others. I will mention...
  12. I'll see if it works on what is left of my livedo reticularis. I only got it when I got sick, so it is probably another vitamin deficiency symptom. It has lightened a lot since being gluten free but it isn't gone. I don't eat many leafy vegetables so I bet i'm deficient. I'm going to take it and ask Doc to check my blood level. Thank you.
  13. Heck with the testing. I have the skin form of Celiac too. I had a great response to going gluten free, but not nearly as quickly as yours! Do NOT eat wheat even for the almighty test. It could be negative even after you put yourself back on gluten and suffer the consequences. Every Dr. I see tells me to get tested for Celiac now, but the 25 I saw during...
  14. Your body sort of gets used to it with the constant onslaught of gluten and it's constant antibody production. You are very sick, but it becomes your normal. Then when you eliminate it, your body breathes a sigh of relief and starts healing. After the antibodies calm down and healing is taking place, your body is really reactive when even trace gluten enters...
  15. Yes, it could ALL be related to eating or ingesting even the smallest amounts of Gluten. I lived that nightmare of symptoms too for about 7 years, and now my thyroid is full of nodules and I have Hashimoto's. Dr's tell me my symptoms are not thyroid too, but nothing else surfaced. I have had a complete change mentally and physically from eliminating gluten...
  16. I only go where they have a gluten free menu. Then I ask to talk to the manager to be sure the cook is aware of cross contamination issues. Sometimes they are clueless. Then I don't eat. If they are concerned and knowledgeable I will eat with fear and trepidation. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't.
  17. I had migraines that got increasingly worse until they almost never stopped for 7 years. Within 3 weeks of going gluten free, I knew it was the answer and I would get better being gluten free. Hang in there. I still get a menstrual migraine but it is nothing compared to the gluten migraines. Be very careful of trace gluten and cross contamination because...
  18. I was bed ridden for 5 years...sick for 7 but functioned the first 2 years trying to figure out what was wrong until I got seriously ill and couldn't get out of bed. Headaches, migraines, nausea, vomiting, D, fatigue, slept away whole years being ill...all the dr's would say was fibromylagia...but it wasn't. I am only 7 months gluten free and I couldn...
  19. Fran, Thank you so much for that information. I have normal bloodwork too and I have never had a scan...was hoping that wasn't the only way it showed up. But at least they scanned you and found the cancer. I hope your pancreas turns out to be ok. I know what gluten can do to your brain. It made me have distorted thinking. I know you have been though...
  20. Wow, Fran, that is wonderful that you are Lymphoma free now and the treatments worked. Please take the gluten very seriously. It is like an opiate you know...it tells you everything is gonna be alright while it slowly destroys your health and your body. You didn't survive cancer just to have gluten destroy your health again. I empathize with your...
  21. I couldn't do any fruits or vegetables for a long time...like 2 months. I ate chicken breast, nuts, a little banana, beef cooked well in broth. Protein is very healing. I tolerated all protein except eggs...don't know why. I'm at 7 months and only really upped the vegetable and fruit intake in the last few weeks as I was able to tolerate it. I...
  22. For 5 years I walked hunched over like a little old lady with excruciating hip bone pain. It was as if my very bone marrow hurt. I had weak legs and severe muscle pain. All those years...and it was only Celiac. Wheat! 7 months gluten free and I can now walk normally Without pain. It wasn't fibromyalgia after all Doc!
  23. I think your answer was in that one full year of being gluten free. Your skin problems went away and your mood stabilized. Gluten can cause all the symptoms you described, so you might have your solution in going gluten free again and staying that way. I don't know about the ED, but there have been others who report increased sexuality after being gluten...
  24. Soy will have consequences if you use it long term. Open Original Shared Link Open Original Shared Link Just a few points to consider. I used it for years. Now I have thyroid problems, nodules, Hashimoto's disease and a biopsy for cancer next week. Soy oil has been well marketed because it is cheap and there was an overabundance of it so they...
  25. Yes it is possible to have long term undiagnosed Celiac disease. I do too. Had symptoms all my life and never figured this out until 47. While you are healing vegetables will be hard to digest unless peeled and well cooked. It is a good idea to puree and "hide" the good stuff in spaghetti sauce etc. Milk and dairy products are not well-tolerated by damaged...
