ARCHIVED Do My Symptoms Sound Familiar
ianm replied to johnm's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I discovered my gluten intolerance when I tried the Atkins diet. My life was a mess and I was very overweight. I began to see an improvement right away but it was a good year before I could say I was healthy. I was 36 at the time. I have since lost 85 pounds and am healthier at 37 than I was at 17. For me the problem was there right from the start and became... -
ARCHIVED Putting Pressure On Spot In Ear
ianm replied to lockett's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I have every intention of staying gluten free fro the rest of my life. I wasted the first 36 years of my life because of this disease and have no desire to go back. In the short time I have been gluten free my life is drastically different and so much better than it used to be. I nearly lost everything I had because of celiac. Until you have been in that... -
You can lead people to knowledge but you cannot make them learn anything. I am convinced my dad and brother have it but they don't want to know anything about it. Even after losing a lot of weight and seeing so many positive changes they just aren't interested. Nothing you can do except get healthy and stay healthy.

ARCHIVED Putting Pressure On Spot In Ear
ianm replied to lockett's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Lockett you have to understand why we are skeptical. Many of us have been very sick for a very long time. When someone comes along making a claim that a wad of cotton will fix a very serious disease we need to see more proof than what you have provided. This is a very knowledgeable group of people on celiac. We know what works and we've heard all kinds of... -
ARCHIVED Kroger Childerns Pain Reliever - Not Gf?
ianm replied to VydorScope's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I think Perrigo makes all of the Kroger brand medicines. I have never had any problem with them. -
Thanks guys, I knew you would like that story. It is so true about karma. I always try to look for the good in every situation and am not ashamed of my celiac. I have had three people ask me about celiac this week. They have all gained lots of weight and feel like crap. They noticed how much I have changed and always refuse bread, cake and donuts and don...

All I can say is that my improved health has given me more vengeance upon the idiots in my life than anything else. I have an earlier post about an idiot coworker and a jelly donut. Now my ex did domething stupid that has backfired for her. About a month or so ago an Extremely Attractive Freind (EAF), single too, of my ex told her that she saw me riding...

Amen to that. If the gluten-free diet has improved your health then that is all you really need to know.

ARCHIVED Is Anyone Else Concerned About All Ibs Publicity?
ianm replied to mytummyhurts's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
The lack of acceptance of Celiac by the medical community has to do with the fact that there is no drug for celiac. You go on a gluten free diet, become healthy and no longer need prescriptions. No profit in that at all. -
I would have said "I told you so" but you had the wisdom to figuire that one out for yourself. Hope you recover quickly.

I don't eat bannanas because they are high in fructose and starch. Potatos are all starch. This irritates my gut and causes me to gain weight. They don't contribute to brain fog. I would stop eating spuds if you want to lose weight. Stick to green veggies and low fructose fruit like berries. Tree fruits like apples, pears, peaches, etc. have too much fructose...

Did the melatonin you were taking have gluten in it? I have taken melatonin and have had no problems with it.

ARCHIVED Reactions To Distilled Drinks/vinegar?
ianm replied to anerissara's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I cannot eat apples or drink apple juice either. Apples have a lot of fructose and i don't tolerate it very well. -
After reading the book "Dangerous Grains" I had absolutely no desire to eat anything even remotely like bread ever again.
-
I actually started the gluten-free diet when I tried the Atkins diet. The brain fog lifted within a week and was the first problem to go away. Another way to describe the brain fog was like an out of body experience. I could see and hear what was going on around me but was completely unable to connect with reality. I eat green vegetables, fruit like berries...

I would tell him right away and if doesn't get it or like it kick him to the curb right then and there. I was married to someone who didn't get it and you do not want to be involved with someone like that.

For me it felt like my head was in a vise and packed in an airtight box. Nothing could get in or out. It felt like I was half asleep all of the time. I could sleep for 14 hours straight and be even more tired after I woke up. It was the most liberating experience when the fog lifted.

ARCHIVED Importance Of Biopsys
ianm replied to a topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I have never had any of the celiac tests so I don't know for sure what is happening in my gut. What I do know is that I was extremely sick, tired and overweight. I stopped eating gluten and my life underwent a drastic transformation for the better. I don't want any of the tests because I can't afford to get that sick again. I have turned my life around and... -
ARCHIVED Low-carb Awakening
ianm replied to sunface21's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Nini I agree with your low carb theory completely. It was when I tried the Atkins diet that my poor health made a drastic turn for the better. There is a chapter in the Atkins book about food intolerances and that led me to believe I have Celiac or am gluten intolerant. I won't get tested because I won't eat gluten and go back to the mess I used to be. I... -
I suffered from extreme fatigue and brain fog that was just crippling. The only thing that worked was to go gluten free. I now eat a healthy diet and exercise a lot. Without proper food and exercise I start to feel fatigue again. I am at a point where it is hard for "normal" people to keep up with me.

ARCHIVED Curious
ianm replied to ShortStuff2309's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
In a word, NO!!!!!! I wasted the first 36 years of my life because of this disease. No gluten touches my lips for any reason whatsoever. If I have to offend someone to protect my health that person will no longer be a part of my life. -
I am of the male gender, went to lots of doctors who were useless and I can cook. Surprisingly the people who don't get my disease are women. Many times the men want to know more and the women don't want to hear any of it and don't believe such a thing is possible. It seems like most of the men I know are into healthy lifestyles and the women only eat processed...

I've heard scrape it, wash it, cut it off many times and frequently from people who have had me explain why I can't eat it 100 times before.

ARCHIVED Gluten-free
ianm replied to Nevadan's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
For me my food bill went way down. I don't eat any processed foods. I only eat whole foods. Because of this I don't need to eat nearly as much as I used to. -
Bullets and babes, now that's HOT! Seriously I went through a period of very severe depression at the beginning of my gluten-free lifestyle. It just takes time to get things sorted out and on track. I work long hours but I make it a point not to take on too much outside of work either. It is more important that I take care of myself and my son first...
