  1. It would be a more efficient way to organize things. This group has really grown and there has been a lot of repetition of newbie questions. Somedays this makes it difficult to wade through all of the postings. It would also make it easier for the newbies to find their way around in the beginning.

    ARCHIVED "celiac Isn't Hereditary"

That says it all. Modern medicine is not about making the patient better. It is all about keeping them sick so they come back for more useless medications. Because the only cure for celiac is a gluten free diet how is the doctor supposed to make money? Time to find a new doctor for your dad Bean.
  3. Can't say I ever had a problem breathing flour. I don't do much baking with it and am very careful with it so it may never have been enough to set me off. If you are super sensitive a good particle mask would be a good idea.
  4. I was always more of a Benny Hill fan. Nini, I always got your humor. Anyone who is a fan of Beavis and Butthead rules in my book.
  5. I work with two women who are worse than a boatload of drunken sailors so I should have said most but not all women tend to misunderstand dry humor. Some men don't get that type of humor either. I was speaking in more generalized terms of some of the observations I have made.
  6. I have never had any tests and went gluten-free before I even knew any existed. For me cutting out the gluten resulted in such a drastic turnaround in my health that it was so obvious what the problem was. It would be nice to know for certain if I really do have celiac or am just gluten intolerant. At this point in time I just cannot afford to go back on...
  7. I think these two paragraphs sum it up nicely. If this board was mostly men I don't think mmm..gluten would have caused much of a stir. This is not a criticism but I have found that women tend not to understand dry, dark humor like mmm..gluten's and end up getting offended by it. The men on this board reacted very differently to his remarks. Some of what mmm...
  8. In defense of mmm..gluten I really don't think he was trying to be condescending. I got the impression that he is someone with a dry sense of humor that just did not come across the way he intended. If we were all speaking face to face I don't think he would have provoked the reaction that he did. Since we cannot meet face to face it is good to remember that...
  9. That will give Kaiti and celiac3270 lots of time to run for national office. In the meantime they could warm up by running for office at the local and state level.
  10. Your language is fine. We probably talk more about bowels and BM's more than anything else here.
  11. I can't eat potatoes because of the starch. I can't eat any tree fruits like pears, apples, oranges because they are high in fructose. Berries, grapes and melons seem to be fine with me. I have been eating 5-6 really small meals (no more than 2 cups) a day for the past week or so and it has really helped with the bloating.
  12. Anything that involves gluten flour gets used in one area only and cleaned good after. Wash my hands after using it too. So far so good.
  13. I make gluten foods for my son but gluten-free only for me. Haven't had any problems with cross contamination.
  14. I used to get acid reflux and gas really bad before going gluten-free. The reflux would be like sharp stabbing pains in my chest. Going gluten-free and keeping my portions real small has helped me a lot.
  15. I had night sweats by the bucket full before going gluten-free. It took me longer than 3 days for mine to go away so it looks like you're on the right track Bean.
  16. I gain weight and get lots of bloating when I eat gluten foods. Never had a doctor say it was IBS but none of them ever said it was celiac disease or at the very least gluten intolerance.
  17. Getting back on to the original topic. I have to travel frequently for work and have rarely had any problems getting glutened. If it weren't for the Atkins diet I never would have discovered a food intolerance was the source of why I was so sick. I went to dozens of doctors and not one of them ever suggested a gluten intolerance. Cheating is not...
  18. Isn't Type I diabetes the type you are born with and Type II the kind that developes later in life as a result of poor health and diet? That is what I was told by a doctor once because I almost became a Type II diabetic.
  19. I don't know if it is directly related but I was so fatigued, brain fogged and generally unhealthy that it made me very susceptible to the vaso vagal.
  20. You said you missed a lot of work because of this. Do you really want to go back on gluten and miss more work? I'm not sure if the test is worth doing if you have a lot of responsibilities.
  21. Lots of lightheadedness, dizzyness for me in the dark pre-gluten-free diet days. No longer a problem for me now.
  22. The dizzyness you are experiencing is something that I used to frequently experience when I would stand up. It is not a siezure, it is called vaso vagal (sp?) syndrome. It is an abnormal adrenaline response caused by your blood shifting when you stand up. It causes the heart to beat so hard it becomes inefficient and causes oxygen deprivation in the brain...
  23. One thing that seems to help with my bloating is to eat very small meals about 4-6 times throughout the day. No more than 2 cups worth of food total in one meal. For me if the portions go beyond a certain amount then I start to get bloated. I also don't get the full feeling when I eat either so it is real easy for me to over eat. I haven't been able to determine...
  24. I am self diagnosed since early 2004 and see no need for an official diagnosis. However If you feel it is important then do it. I went to so many doctors and not one of them ever suggested a food intolerance. I was so sick for 36 years that I just can't bear the thought of eating gluten again. I nearly lost everything I have because of this. I am starting...

ARCHIVED Did You See A Nutritionist?

You are going to find better (and cheaper) information on this website than you will ever get from a nutritionist. The people on this message board have all been there and done that so we know what works and what doesn't.
