ARCHIVED Pepsi
ianm replied to Ally2005's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
After being low carb and gluten free I just can't stand to eat or drink anything that sweet anymore. Besides too much sugar will turn you into Cornholio so it is best to avoid it. -
Keep doing what you are doing. It is YOUR body and you must protect it by any means necessary! If others around you don't like it then TOO DAMN BAD! I have pissed off more than a few people because they don't like what I will and won't eat. When that happens they just cannot be a part of my life anymore. I was so sick and wasted so much of my life that...

ARCHIVED Under Arm Deodrant
ianm replied to chelly1's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
If I use a deoderant with wheat or gluten in it my arm pits feel like they are on fire . If I use shampoo with wheat or gluten my scalp itches. I've never had any other skin problems. If I get flour on my hands I don't have a problem. Some areas of skin may just be more sensitive than others. -

Wow a brain tumor, pre-cancerous lesions. I guess what does not kill you really does make you stronger. -
Sally I have absolutely no desire to eat that junk ever again. I was so sick and tired that I just got sick and tired of being that way. I wasted the first 36 years of my life because of it and just can't bear the thought of wasting one minute more. You can still socialize around food as long as it's gluten-free. Thank you for the compliment. Life is...

You can deny it all you want but this is not going to go away. You are going to have to start exercising some self control. If you keep eating poison eventually it will catch up to you and by then it will be too late. You only get one body so take care of it. Cheating is fun while you're doing it but there is a price to pay. Is it really worth it?

ARCHIVED Vitamin Supplement Suggestions
ianm replied to cinderellad's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Welcome. I find liquid minerals to be the best thing for me. I get the New Vision brand. www.newvision.com. Liquid vitamins didn't seem to make much difference for me but some people here swear by them. I take vitamin pills that are gluten-free. I used to get night sweats by the bucket full but those are gone now. 3 weeks is not enough time. It seems to take... -
If it wasn't for the Atkins diet I never would have found out what was wrong with me. By eating more protien and natural fats from both plant and animal sources you will not get hungry as often. Protiens and fats take longer to digest and don't produce insulin spikes like a high carb diet will cause. I lost 80lbs and don't eat nearly as much as I used to...

Just one more reason to not eat processed foods. -
ARCHIVED Going Very Pale
ianm replied to fritzicurls's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I went to dozens of doctors and not one of them ever suggested a food intolernace. They would just write me a bunch of prescriptions and hope that one of them would do the trick. It wasn't until I read the Atkins diet book that I realised what was wrong. The Atkins book has a chapter on food intolerances. doctors don't know much about celiac and don't want... -
ARCHIVED Gluten Free Chicken
ianm replied to AntiGluten's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I always buy Perdue chicken and have never had any problems with it. I always bake it with a clove or two of garlic and nothing else. Could it be that the pans you are using to cook it are contaminated with gluten? Are you adding anything else to the chicken also? -
Your nutritionist doesn't know what he/she is talking about. Grains are low in protiens and fats and high in carbohydrates. A gluten free diet will make it easier to obtain more protiens and fats. You will find this website to be the best resource out there. The people here are more knowledgeable than most of the doctors and nutitionists out there. Celiac...

The best way to go low carb is to not eat processed foods. Meat, veggies, fruit, nuts, cheese, yogurt are what I mostly eat. Buckwheat, and quinoa are great because they are high protien and fiber and low in carbs. I prefer to eat foods the way they are supposed to be eaten, whole and unprocessed. Low carb diets are based upon eating unprocessed foods. The...

ARCHIVED Just Had An Allergy Test, Distraught!
ianm replied to snipe12's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Be glad you know at 24 what the problem is. It is much easier to pick up the pieces at 24 than it is at 36 when I finally found out what was wrong. The gluten-free diet takes some getting used to but in time it becomes a habit. Breaking your old eating habits are the hard part. Once you have achieved that you will wonder what the fuss was all about. I have... -
ARCHIVED Symptoms That Go Away
ianm replied to Lesliean's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
If it is appendicitis the pain will steadily increase and won't go away. Also you will experience fever and chills at the same time. The only test is the doctor will poke you in the lower right gut and if it hurts even more then it is most likely appendicitis. There really is no other test other than what I have described. -
ARCHIVED Does Insurance Usually Pay For Cd Blood Test?
ianm replied to audreyw's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Your doctor sounds just as clueless as all of the ones I went to. If you really want the tests you're going to have to go elsewhere. -
ARCHIVED Ratzinger--not Good For Celiacs
ianm replied to celiac3270's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I doesn't matter who was elected pope this time because the Church is an institution that changes very slowly. As far as gluten free host it is going to be several popes before that is allowed. -
ARCHIVED Cured Of Celiac
ianm replied to magaka's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I guess it really comes down to how you define healed. If being "healed" means that I get to eat processed crap then no thank you I don't want to be healed. If being "healed" means being forced to eat better foods, exercising and generally living a healthier lifestyle then to me that is really the better way to go. Yes there are certain foods I can't eat... -
ARCHIVED How Do You Make Then Understand What It Is!
ianm replied to roddi's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Here is a great one. Oh you can eat it, it's made with organic whole grain flour so it soesn't have any of that gluten like the fake flour has. I then politely explained that gluten occurs naturally in all type of wheat. It is not an additive to flour. The only response I got was a blank stare. Oh well, what can you do. -
ARCHIVED Self Perscribed Gluten Free & Wondering
ianm replied to hannibehr's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
The insurance thing is another reason I don't want to get tested. Ignorance is bliss and the more ignorant the insurance companies are about any health condition I have the more blissful I am. This way they can't call me uninsurable or say I have a pre-existing condition because there is nothing in writing. -
ARCHIVED Coping With Co-workers Attitude While Dining Out
ianm replied to lpellegr's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
Actually I think actions speak louder than words. Losing 80lbs makes people stand up and take notice. I work with a woman who lost well over 100lbs on a low carb diet and she won't eat pizza either on pizza day even though she isn't gluten intolerant. When I went from being overweight and sick to healthy I just lost my appetite for pizza and donuts. I much... -
ARCHIVED Self Perscribed Gluten Free & Wondering
ianm replied to hannibehr's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I am self diagnosed and have never been tested. I tried eliminating gluten from my diet and it produced such a dramatic change in my life that there really is no doubt what the problem is. An official diagnosis really won't change anything for me anyway. There is no cure other than the gluten-free diet. I am now healthier than most of the people I know. To... -
ARCHIVED Coping With Co-workers Attitude While Dining Out
ianm replied to lpellegr's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
At my job suppliers and sales reps are always bring in donuts, cake and bagels by the truckloads. In the past it everyone would be like a hoard of ravenous bears sucking down every last crumb. Lately at the end of the day there will be quite a few left over. Many of my coworkers saw how much weight I lost and how much healthier I am now since I quit eating... -
ARCHIVED Cured Of Celiac
ianm replied to magaka's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I had periods of time where I would not feel fatigue or brain fog but as I got older those times would be few and far between. It is possible to go into remission but it never really goes away. As far as the prayer thing here is how I look at it. The gluten free diet IS the answer to my prayers. God will show you the path but it is up to you to find it... -

I did have pain in my lower right gut once and it turned out to be my appendix that needed to be removed.
