  1. If by attachment you mean the online dialogue, that's great. I read through the responses just now and there are some really good suggestions of possibilities, I thought. The ones I saw don't involve much about getting one's back checked (a few do). If it were me, I would never ever let anyone check my back, let alone manipulate it, unless such a person was...
  2. I just want to make sure I understand -- your husband is concerned and wants to get an endoscopy done, but he's not too worried about cross contamination?
  3. I have a friend - a guy - who has that kind of bunion - by the baby toe on his left foot. He used to play soccer. Not sure what he did about it, but I can offer my perspective of having a big toe bunion, which I've had for over 20 years. "Bunionectomy" is a possibility, but I've been warned by a relative not to do it. Meanwhile, I've met a lot of people who...
  4. Are you dehydrated? Do you have diabetes? Are you taking any kind of medication? Have you had any kind of recent injury? (https://www.nytimes.com/2017/02/06/well/getting-specific-about-dizziness.html) What is your blood pressure? Do you have any kind of anemia? Have you had recent lab work? What are the results? Everything ok with lungs and heart? Are you...
  5. In terms of inflammation, weight gain, possibility of insulin resistance, I don't think honey is any different than plain old sugar or HFCS.
  6. Update-- I went 7-8 days sugar free, and it was fine. I suspect there was a reason I saw only a modest weight loss (0.5 lb) but I’ll spare the gents the TMI details. As for the benefits I’ve already spelled out those in the OP, above, and I'll add one long-term one - now that I am back to allowing myself to eat whatever I want, I notice that I don’t r...
  7. I would love to see some of those sugar free recipes, so please share. As for the quote above, I thought it was a good idea to cut down too. But I'll just leave you with some thoughts from Taubes who observes that the docs never say to cut down on smoking do they? Smile. No, they say to give it up altogether. He says cigarettes are to lung cancer as sugar...
  8. Inspired by Gary Taubes (Good Calories Bad Calories; Why We Get Fat; and The Case Against Sugar; his numerous podcast and online videos, op eds in the NYT, etc), as well as nonstop reading on the endocrine system and a series I first saw advertised on this site, called "Betrayal" about autoimmunity, I have been sugar-free going on five days now (really six...
  9. Coals to Newcastle!!! Thanks everyone, for the information.
  10. Hi, I am interested in buying nonGMO and gluten-free nuts and found this site. I am wondering if others have ever purchased products from it. Open Original Shared Link Thanks! Plumbago
  11. Well, I'm listening and it's pretty much the usual. This one is priming us for.... functional medicine. Hey, that may not be such a bad thing, I can't really say. However, I get to about minute 35 and I hear a Brazilian doc explaining his first visit is one hour or an hour and a half. Stop the tape right there because if that is what it's about, we may just...
  12. They're heavy on the tease. As I say, it was advertised by the administrator on this site. It's supposedly going to tie the whole auto immunity thing together, but it doesn't say how, though I've heard bits and pieces here and there that histamine could be the big unifier, who knows. Well, it's free, and I'll watch. I think they've designed it at the front...
  13. Here's a link. I'm watching it so far, and it's annoyingly vague, but I will just have to wait until tomorrow night. Open Original Shared Link
  14. Is zonulin triggered by milk? I thought it was mainly gliadin.
  15. Yes it could be casein. For me, I also think it has to do with the sugar in milk, which is considerable.
  16. I am hearing more and more about the the connection between celiac disease and thyroid. On this site, there was a little article/ad for the program on tomorrow night - I subscribed and I think I will be getting a free preview. From what I've seen of it so far, it's heavy in promotion teaser mode and promises to morph into one of those PBS shows they use to...
  17. If you've got diarrhea a lot, sure sounds like you've got malabsorption going on. Genetic Testing. People with celiac disease carry one or both of the HLA DQ2 and DQ8 genes. So do up to 25-30% of all people. Carrying HLA DQ2 and/or DQ8 is not a diagnosis of celiac disease nor does it mean you will ever develop celiac disease. Open Original Shared...
  18. I thought hypothyroidism involves weight gain, not loss. Hyperthyroidism involves diarrhea and weight loss and can turn into a medical emergency.
  19. Irritable bowel syndrome is distinct from irritable bowel disease which usually includes ulcerative colitis and Crohns. Yes, you can have both celiac disease and IBS. I occasionally have left-sided pain that is relieved upon a BM, and I occasionally also have D (once a month maybe, if that), and have recently written about it on these boards. I’m thinking t...
  20. Hi, My thoughts: I am sorry to hear about your situation. And I am sorry about your mom. A fall can increase mental stress, and that stress can decrease cognition, that is for sure. Your physician, like most, is not curious about your situation, for better or worse. That is going to be your job, and it sounds like you are. Great! Does your...
  21. What we know about Celiac is that it does involve inflammation of the small intestine leading to villi blunting. I mean, this is the Celiac prototype. Crohn's can involve the whole GI tract while ulcerative colitis involves the colon (large intestine) and rectum if I am not mistaken.
  22. I am hopefully well into my one year of being period-free, ie menopause. So I do have some hotflashes now. To be honest, I used to get them in my 40s and maybe even my 30s, but only occasionally. It would be hard to tease out if it's celiac disease-related or pre-, peri- or menopause. However what I described above, about having D recently, is more of...
  23. You could always take your temperature during the hot flash. Not to give tmi of my own, but yesterday I ate half a bag of pistachios, which was entirely too much fiber for one sitting, and had a reaction, and um during my reaction, I took my temperature, and it was slightly elevated. Just give yourself more pieces of information to work with.
