ARCHIVED Waiting on Results/ Still Sick
plumbago replied to mnburis's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
The sluggishness, hair loss, and weight gain made me think of hypothyroidism, but then the diarrhea throws me - unless the two things are unrelated. Coincidental but unrelated. I looked up positive lactoferrin test on labsonline: Lactoferrin is a stool (fecal) test that is used to detect inflammation in the intestines. Intestinal inflammation is associated... -
No, I won't swallow it! Right now, the wound is not really open, and cold relieves the pain more than warmth, so I'm not sure how much good salt water will do. I guess I get to anticipate the day when it does open, if it does. O goody. The pain is incredible. And I'm very hungry because I'm not eating enough. This really sucks, I must say. Thanks for your...

Thanks. I have been using this product intermittently for years. I did see other places online that it had wheat but I could not pick out the actual ingredient containing it.

Do you know the specific name of the wheat protein in Nizoral? Thank you!

At first I thought it was an infected or clogged (with a stone) salivary gland, but after taking a gander at my tongue late this afternoon, I see it is a large aphthous ulcer on the right side of my tongue, and it hurts. Any micro-movement, even, seems to cause pain. Swallowing is no fun. Eating lunch was a challenge, eating dinner tonight, much more painful...

If you go back and look at the Celiac cascade panel, it gives a value. That's what I meant by score. -

Actually, gluten-free donuts are the next frontier (in the pre- and post diabetic lifestyle and the standard American diet). There is a gluten-free bakery here in DC that is about to expand and will soon roll out donuts. They already sell bagels which are, IMO, meh. A bagel probably has more than your RDA of carbohydrates in any case. But rest assured, the... -

Thanks RMJ. Can you explain the score of the OP? -
ARCHIVED Positive Blood Tests
plumbago replied to jenna3's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I agree with the others that this looks like a positive celiac disease diagnosis (and I didn't really see anything that indicates a weak positive). What I have never seen before is the "celiac cascade." After thinking on what that is for several minutes, I concluded it is an indication of positivity based on the tests. Is that right? I have no idea, can someone... -

I’d be interested in hearing what you’re eating, gluten wise, that causes you to feel bad. -
The more people feel free to be who they are, the better, I say! Go forth and express whatever way you see fit. I like that you claimed your space. Plumbago

ARCHIVED Feel like I'm going insane
plumbago replied to pavlovcat's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Graves disease is an autoimmune disorder and the most common cause of hyperthyroidism. You now have a doctor telling you that no, you are not hyper- but rather hypothyroid. Hmm...which is it? The two conditions are the exact opposite of each other. My gut reaction is to yell out, “get off these boards, and research the best endo in your area asap and make a...- 19 replies

ARCHIVED Diagnosis Confusion Please Help
plumbago replied to SHGrade's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Hi, I like as much information as possible, so after researching it a ton, I personally would get the genetic test. As for the factor/disease statement, I wonder if you’ve got it reversed? Just a thought. What jumps out to me is you could be a little more careful with your diet, as you seem to be consuming inadvertent gluten relatively frequently. ... -

ARCHIVED Chick-fil-A - new gluten-free buns
plumbago replied to kareng's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
Ok, but I tend to think even “mainstream eaters” for lack of a better word are slowly but surely coming round to questioning the idea of sugar being in everything. HFCS, is just a teeny tiny bit “worse” than molasses or raisins, it’s almost not even worth pointing out. But at any rate, I did not know there were indeed gluten-free entrees one could order, an... -

Yes, exactly. So, a bun is gluten free. What can you put between them? -
ARCHIVED Confused!!!
plumbago replied to Raelynne's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
There are some key questions to ask before answering yours. Have you had hep A? Have you had mumps, measles, or rubella? Have you had varicella (chicken pox)? If not, have been vaccinated against any of those diseases? I just googled varicella-zoster IgG ABS (antibodies), and got this: “The result should not be used alone to diagnose VZV infection a... -
B12 • On labwork, will find decreased hematocrit; increased MCS (size of RBC); increase of homocysteine • Increase of methylmalonic acids • Intrinsic factor antibodies – if elevated, can mean you have pernicious anemia Best Labs To Order • Serum B12 levels is considered not a good indicator because the way B12 works is inside the cells...

There are different causes of anemia. It sounds like you know you had iron deficiency anemia. Your hemoglobin right now, though, is 12. This is normal. Speaking personally, I would not take supplements or get any kind of infusion with a hemoglobin of 12. Plumbago

ARCHIVED Are Gluten-Free Foods Misleading Consumers?
plumbago replied to Scott Adams's topic in Publications & Publicity
due to poor nutritional labelling. A few years ago, I dared to bring up the lack of supplementation in gluten-free bread and suffered the consequence for doing so. It seemed there were a few very vocal opponents to supplementing bread; indeed, they wanted to be left alone. Specifically I was talking about the B vitamins and folic acid. To refresh, gluten... -

ARCHIVED Can you look through my non celiac related blood work?
plumbago replied to Misscellany's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Hi, A low total IgA can skew the rest of the results. 1) The celiac blood test panel includes the total serum IgA test because some people (3%) are IgA-deficient. If you have a very low total serum IgA, that can invalidate the three blood tests that rely on your IgA levels. People with celiac disease suffer from low total IgA levels about 10 to... -
This may not be super helpful, but according to Recognizing Celiac Disease: Signs, Symptoms, Associated Disorders & Complications by Libonati (RN, BSN), there is an increased prevalence of GERD in celiac disease patients, especially untreated, and that studies show improvement on a gluten-free diet. Gluten is something, they say, that increases abdominal...

Hiatal hernia is definitely a risk factor for GERD, and the gastro who did my scopes said that more people than not after a certain age have hiatal hernias. You're right that an "incompetent" lower esophageal sphincter is a primary etiological factor. And the factors affecting LES pressure include alcohol, certain drugs like anticholinergics, fatty foods...
