ARCHIVED Anyone Had Negative Results From Dr Fine's Panel?
skbird replied to trying4faith's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
My results came back under 10 on all counts but I had been eating gluten-free for 5 months and reduced gluten for two years before that. I do have a gluten-sensitive genotype, but not Celiac. Stephanie -
This recipe is on the Ancient Harvest (www.quinoa.net) Quinoa Flakes box. I thought it was very good, peanut buttery... Crispy Quinoa Cookies 1/2 cup Honey, 1/3 cup Brown Sugar, 1/2 cup Vegetable Spread, 1/2 cup Peanut Butter, 1/2 tsp. Vanilla, 1 cup Quinoa Flour, 3/4 cup Quinoa Flakes, 1 tsp baking soda, 1/4 tsp salt (optional), 1/2 cup nuts (optional...

ARCHIVED Finally Got My Enterolab Results!
skbird replied to dfish's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Hello! It was good to read your results because we have almost the same exact genes - except I have HLA-DQB1*0602, 0303. Anyway, all of my antibodies were under 10 yet I definitely have symptoms, in fact I am suffering right now from an accidental glutening this past weekend. From what I understand, the genes we have are not the two main Celiac... -
ARCHIVED Soy Flour And Menses
skbird replied to plantime's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Oh... I wouldn't be too surprised. Especially if you've increased it recently or at some point. I am terribly sensitive to phytoestrogens and if you read up on it (but not now when you're not sane!!! ) you'll see that we all get a barrage of estrogens all the time from plastics, chemicals, etc. For a while there I took a progesterone cream to help balance... -
ARCHIVED Is There A Potato Starch Flour Substitute?
skbird replied to catatonic's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Maybe a 50/50 blend then of tapioca and arrowroot? I think I'll try that next time. Stephanie -
I went to Black Angus about a month ago for lunch and the waitress was VERY nice. (Citrus Heights, CA). I got the London Broil lunch as she said that it was one of the steaks they don't marinade first and I had her give me double steamed veggies (I can't eat potatoes). I also asked if they could clean the grill. I also had a salad but forgot to mention croutons...

ajlauer - No, low carb bread is not the same - the reason it is so darn spongy is all the GLUTEN in it. I swear, most of that bread is all gluten. I tried making some - it would always gross me out. And make me nauseated. No wonder! Food for Life rice breads are available in one form or another at both my local health food stores and now in my...

ARCHIVED Does Band-aid Glue Have Gluten?
skbird replied to anerissara's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I get contact dermatitis from some bandages/Band Aids - it looks like I have a sun burn. Also it is raised. I don't know what causes it in the bandages but many brands do it to me. It is worse if I get sun on it - wearing a band aid in the sun is a sure thing. I did get really sick after having a bandage put on me at the chiropractor - she used a spray... -
ARCHIVED Sensitivity Vs. Intolerance?
skbird replied to wooya's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Hi! If you are interested in EnteroLab I have read that you can go through them even if you're in Canada. Their website is www.enterolab.com. There is also a lot of good information there about gluten sensitivity. Good luck! Stephanie -
ARCHIVED Bowels Before And After Gluten-free Diet
skbird replied to Chrissy in England's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Yeah celiac3270, you are amazing. For the longest time I thought the "14" in your signature had to do with how long you'd been gluten free. It wasn't until I read your "getting to know you" post that I figured otherwise. I was a percocious kid but I have to say at 14 I would definitely not had the wherewithall to make the posts you do. Nice knowing you... -
ARCHIVED Degrees Of Gluten Intolerance?
skbird replied to scoutfinch's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I definitely had a freak out about a month or two ago where anything I touched I was afraid of. The powder on balloons, the starch in a store-bought shirt, the soap in the restroom at work... etc. etc. etc. I was worried I'd be paranoid forever. I think it was all just sinking in. I am fine now. I keep seeing stuff now that I would eat or use a couple... -
ARCHIVED Wheat Harvest
skbird replied to scaredparent's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Paula - I was up in Idaho/Washington in Feb to visit relatives and I started having this weird panic attack feeling (not a strong one) while in the car. I asked what the fields around us grow and was told wheat and barley. It was a really weird thing to find out. Don't know why I was having this anxiety feeling but it didn't get any better. But I also... -
ARCHIVED Modified Cellulose Gum
skbird replied to skbird's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Thanks - that's good to know. Now I'll have to figure out what else was giving me the problem... BUT that means I can keep taking these supplements as I haven't found any other with these formulas. So that's good news! Stephanie -
Ever get the feeling we all need a new doctor??? I was pretty mad when I took that Frova and it worked. Even when the doctor gave it to me he warned it probably wouldn't work because he was sure I don't have migraines. When I think of all the doctors, time, pain, etc I'd had in my life (been getting "headaches" since I was small) it really pisses me...

ARCHIVED No Diagnosis - Still :( Please Help

Also a fan of Tinkyada pasta but also really like the Quinoa pastas I've found in many stores now, too. It's quinoa and corn. Stephanie -
ARCHIVED Is There A Potato Starch Flour Substitute?
skbird replied to catatonic's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I've heard that tapioca starch works fine. I haven't tried making bread that way yet but have used it for other things. I get very sick from potatoes so I have to avoid them, too. Stephanie -
ARCHIVED Modified Cellulose Gum
skbird posted a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Does anyone know if modified cellulose gum can be gluten-containing? I have a few supplements that contain this and sometimes when I am taking them I have some gluten reactions (not certain if that's the only culprit but can't figure out what else would be). The company that makes the supplements is Planetary Formulas and I have called them three times and... -
ajlauer - I'd say those are migraines. I don't have so much of the light sensitivity as celiac3270 mentioned, only with the *really* bad ones (the once a year kind). But if motion makes it worse, that is usually a migraine. And the floaty things you describe - sounds like visuals that are common with migraines (I don't have those but have heard others...

Kimberly - I was thinking last night that dried fruit also contains sulfites (unless you get them sulfite free - usually pretty brown looking and not as appetizing to the eye, but tasty all the same). I know there are more but I just can't think of them. Would sure be cool if this cleared up the mystery for you! Stephanie

ARCHIVED Problems With Mouth Sores
skbird replied to poodlethree's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I think I'm getting one today! I am pretty sure I got glutened last week and had about 4-5 days of feeling it in my stomach and feeling slow overall. It was either a new supplement or this gum I like. It's been 3-4 days since my stomach has been better but I'm getting one under my upper lip and I'm really bummed out about it. I haven't had one in a long time... -
Wow Deb - back to daily after a month. I'll bet that was a good month... I had them almost daily back 6+ years ago. I don't know what I'd do now. I did have one last fall that lasted 13 days and I even went and got a shot of pain meds at one point trying to break the darn thing. But I had been doing a cleansing protocol and had just kicked up too much...

ARCHIVED Breakfast Suggestions?
skbird replied to SueD's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Smoothies are great and usually quick (unless you have a hard to clean blender like me!) My favorite: 1/2 cup coconut milk 1 frozen banana 1 tbsp protein powder (I like rice protein powder) 1 tsp cocoa 10 drops liquid stevia or use honey 1 tbsp peanut butter Really good! Coconut milk is great and creamy and will fill you up. Stephanie -
Kimberly - Well, most wine has sulfites in them. I don't have a list but I looked into it because of my problem with lettuce. But I am certain it's not sulfites that were my problem. I hope you figure it out! Stephanie

Dessa - Bummer on the eggs! I challenged myself on shellfish this past Feb/March. I tried shrimp first, no noticable reaction. So I waited a week or two and had some crab (my favorite, and worst offender) and by the end of dinner my lips and mouth were sore and raw feeling. The next day I had the burning-acid migraine and sore stomach. Two weeks later...

Kimberly - Do you have a sensitivity to sulfites? They were commonly used on things like head lettuce, though are supposed to be illegal now. That could explain why you used to get migraines from eating lettuce but not now. I actually get sick from some lettuce now - have determined it to be the sprays/washes they use with citric acid in them. Makes me...
