ARCHIVED Could The Blood Test Be Wrong?
Marlie replied to confused mom's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Some of your daughter symptoms resemble my daughter. She has been gluten free for about a month. If she eats anything cross contaminated she will be dizzy, nauseated, get a headache, experience numbness in the hands and has stomach pains. Also, within like 10 minutes of ingesting gluten from cross contamination she starts coughing and sounds as though... -
ARCHIVED I Have No Idea Where To Start.
Marlie replied to cbs011's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
You need to get a Celiac Panel Test: Total IGA Tgg EMA DGP IgA DGP IgG There is one other test that is older than the DGP test but I'm not sure of the name but it is very similiar in name. Be aware that you may test positive on only one of the tests. Total IgA is to see if you are IgA deficient. My daughter tested positive only on the... -

ARCHIVED German Pancake Help
Marlie replied to waterlily-'s topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
We're quite new at this, but we have been making some great pancakes but we noticed if we don't sift the flour it turns into rubber. Also we tend to use a mixture of flours like superfine white rice, tapicoa and potato starch with good results. You might also want to reduce the xantham gum to like a 1/4 teaspoon. We are newbies but have been baking,... -

Schar brands just came out with breadcrumbs that I bought the other day. Honestly I haven't tried them yet but all their other products that I have tried so far including their breadsticks have passed my taste tastes. If you can't find the breadcrumbs I would seriously consider buying their breadsticks and throw them into the food processor. For pasta...

I have been cooking gluten free for about a month and was wondering what others had to say about Authentic Food Flours. So far I've found them to work much better than Bob's Red Mill, Pamela's, or Gluten Free Pantry. Just curious if anyone else thinks this too and if you've had to tweak recipes using them. PS: I don't have anything to do with any manufacturers...

ARCHIVED Newly Dx'd Question
Marlie replied to Marc49's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
So far I've had good luck with Quinoa Pasta. Honestly I never liked wheat bread or wheat pasta but prefer the bad white flour based products. With Quinoa I cannot taste a discernable difference based on my preferences. -

Marlie replied to Tpayne10's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I know this post is a little old however I can tell you there are some places you can go in Atlanta to eat Gluten Free. My husband and daughter recently went to Blue Moon Pizza in Cobb County and they prepare Gluten Free Pizzas in a separate area than the Gluten Free Pizzas. My daughter is highly sensitive to cross contamination and had no problem. An... -

If you don't like the dermatologist you have seen in the past, find a new one. I'd also insist on them doing a biopsy. A couple of years ago my daughter had a bump on her scalp which I showed to numerous doctors and was told many things. Well eventually it started bleeding so I took her to the dermatologist and he said it was probably nothing to worry... -

Marlie replied to Jill0711's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
My daughter went gluten free a few weeks back. Try the quinoa spagetti noodles. They taste and look normal. Also try the gluten free snyders pretzels. I'm the pickiest eater in the world and they taste normal. Also today we tried the schar bread sticks. Although bland like an ordinary bread stick would be you can't tell they are gluten free. -

ARCHIVED At What Age Was Your Child/children Diagnosed Celiac?
Marlie replied to salexander421's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Deamidated Gliadin Peptide Tests IgA and IgG. My daughter's tests were done through Prometheus Labs in California. She was negative on the EMA and Ttg Iga tests. Her total IgA level was 67 on the low side of normal range. But the DGP IgA and DGP IgG were both positive. If they hadn't included that test we still wouldn't know that she has Celiac Disease... -
ARCHIVED At What Age Was Your Child/children Diagnosed Celiac?
Marlie replied to salexander421's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
My daughter was diagnosed at 13. She tested negative on the more widely used tests. Came up positive on both of the new DGP tests. Biopsy was positive. Not sure how long she's had Celiac but she has a history of severe chronic headaches, sinus issues and fractured growth plates. Can't say if that was Celiac or not. However, before her diagnosis she... -

ARCHIVED Just Diagnosed Teen Who's Mom Needs Help With Vitamins
Marlie posted a topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
My daughter (13) was diagnosed with Celiac Disease just recently. I can't get into see a nutritionist for months. Generally speaking do nutritionists order blood work to look for vitamin deficiencies or the general doctor. What panels should be ordered in any case. The GI doctor doesn't want a follow up visit for six months. In the meantime I'm worried... -
ARCHIVED Celiac And Other Auto-Immune Diseases
Marlie replied to Gluten Glutton's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
My daughter, who is a teen, was just diagnosed this month both by blood testing and biopsy for Celiac Disease. Fourteen months ago she developed a bald spot at the crown of her scalp. The dermatologist diagnosed it is Alopecia (an autoimmune disease) but not via labs or biopsy. The hair started growing back a few months later. -
ARCHIVED Baking Cookies Specifically Chocolate Chip
Marlie replied to Marlie's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Thanks for the replies. I never ate store bought cookies nor even most bakery cookies as I don't like them nor does my family. I spoiled them with everything baked from scratch. I was a great baker and am trying to recreate it Gluten Free and I am going nuts to be honest. Superfine rice flour is definitely one of the secrets I have discovered hence... -

ARCHIVED Am I Crazy?
Marlie replied to divamomma's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
My daughter had her biopsy 10 days again and we started gluten free immediately and she started feeling better within 24 hours. Everyday I see improvement. Even her acne (if that was what was all over her face for several years) is subsiding. The doctor told me during the biopsy she saw no damage but the lab results of the biopsy were positive. You are... -
ARCHIVED Baking Cookies Specifically Chocolate Chip
Marlie posted a topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I thought I'd share what I have learned over the course of the last ten days with others about making chocolate chip cookies to help others and maybe someone can help me fine tune this. Initially I tried baking the Tollhouse cookie recipe on the back of Nestle Chocolate Chip Morsels with Gluten Free Pantry All Purpose Flour with added Guar Gum. Results...
