ARCHIVED Why Biopsy With Positive Ema?
nikki-uk replied to Boffin's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Hi Boffin! ( ) and welcome!! The biopsy does indeed seem seem a rather invasive method for diagnosis (minimal risk) as you say - BUT!, you must understand that doctors like to deal with 100% facts. They really don't like to hear ''I think I've got celiac disease...but didn't have the biopsy to prove it'' (BTW - blood tests are never 100% accurate... -

ARCHIVED Endoscopy
nikki-uk replied to Lise's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I think it really depends on who is doing your endoscopy. After my hubby's first endoscopy he was told all 'looked' normal but biopsies were taken (which turned out to be positive for celiac disease) When my hubby had his 2nd endoscopy his GI actually done it. He was much more familiar with 'seeing' celiac disease damage and said after that my hubby... -

Patti said dog-isms Just for you Torm ( I know, the joke's wearing thin but it makes me LAUGH!!!!) These are very accurate descriptions: sod * Noun. 1. A contemptible or objectionable person. 2. I still struggle NOT to correct the programme on this board (and sneak in a letter 'O' ) that spells out celiac disease when you put the letters in.....AAAAARGHHhhh...............(but I do feel you should still share ''b... -
Got no real answer for you , other than to say my son got these before being gluten-free and after His paediatrician has said that it's caused by a certain bacteria (staphyloccocal aureus) Now why the bacteria gets a hold on his skin I don't know BUT it does seem to coincide with him being run down and his 'immune system' low. At the moment...

Cue bad (as in the proper meaning ) joke: A brain walks into a bar and says, "I'll have a pint of beer please." The barman looks at him and says "Sorry, I can't serve you." "Why not?" askes the brain. "You're already out of your head." -
ARCHIVED Muscle Weakness
nikki-uk replied to Legweakness's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
Hi, and welcome!! What springs to mind with your description is 'periphial neuropathy' - which often happens to coeliacs. My hubby had these symptoms (+ burning tingling feet) and even was seeing a neurologist for it , but it went away around 6 months after being gluten-free. His neurologist believes it was caused by vitamin deficiencies (mainly... -
ARCHIVED Swelling
nikki-uk replied to natalie's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I would also recommend seeing a doctor - to rule out any heart problems BUT I have to add my hubby had very swollen legs/ankles/feet prior to going gluten-free - which disappeared (in answer to the original question) a couple of months into the gluten-free diet. -
