  1. That's a great idea, don't know if it's possible though! I love the food pics, and recently some members of the board (mostly those who participate in the OMG thread in 'other intolerances') have been putting up 'vintage' childhood and wedding photos ! I love looking at them!
  2. Quite frankly, is it worth it?? You know how gluten affects you so I really can't see what's to be gained?? Besides - 2 weeks is not nearly long enough for you to gain a positive biopsy (more like 8 week+) Good Luck!
  3. OH WOW!! - and why wouldn't you boast?? BTW, Your girls are very beautiful!!!!
  4. Now why am I not suprised to see Karen's name come up in a thread about the moon??? ..and oh heck, a blue moon?!?!
  5. Yeah, I had one too!! ...and why Miss Beverly!!! ....you are looking absolutely GORGEOUS DAHLING in your avatar!!!!!!
  6. Alas the no beer aspect of the gluten-free diet was particulary hard for my hubby in the beginning. You can get gluten-free beer in some of the larger Asda stores in the free from aisle but cheap it ain't !! (around
  7. Sounds like we all know/have known someone like that!!! It's ironic that if you are not the type to be materialistic all *that bragging* flies right over your head - as you wish them well without any feelings of jealousy yourself Without realising it you are probably a 'good listener' - but sometimes you need it to work the other way. Me? -...
  8. FABULOUS Jestgar thankyou!!! No's 3 & 6 really appealled to my sense of humour!!! (Hmmm, toilet humour is my fave ) ..and can I just say ...I never pass up the opportunity to use the bathroom!!! (weak bladder.....)
  9. Yep, I do think it depends on your type of equipment. My pots and pans are stainless steel - I hand wash them and then put them in the dishwasher & my 2 coeliacs have never had any problems. Whereas plastic containers used in the microwave tend to get scratched and (IMO) could 'hold onto' gluten so my coeliacs use pyrex for that.
  10. Afraid it is for all coeliacs ! Oh - and a separate toaster IS A MUST!!
  11. Oh yes!..so there is!!....thanks Donna
  12. Good question! I've often wondered the same!
  13. OMGosh, yes, we MUST find the ''celebrities with celiac disease'' thread and add ''Patti'' (aka jerseyangel) Cute pic BTW
  14. Hmmm, it's pretty hard to tell but.... I think the first result is your tTg (this is the most important part of the panel) Usually (although different labs can have different values) anything above an 8-10 is considered positive. The second result is probably measuring your total amount of antibodies (not sure what it should read though ) However...
  15. It really is different for every person. Some people here felt much better after a few weeks - others it's taken longer. If you try to look at it as it took a number of years for the damage to your bowel to get as bad as it is - it might take a little while to undo it It took my hubby several months before he felt any benefit to being gluten-free...
  16. It is true that in the UK you need biopsy proof to be eligable for prescription gluten-free foods BUT surely your old notes would show you had a positive biopsy as a kid?? Once a coeliac - always a coeliac.
  17. I had this problem too Rachel - on a relatively new computer. I really don't know didley squat about computers!! and as we know, they are EVIL!! Anywho - I took it into a computer shop and told them about the problem of 'low virtual memory' and they added some memory (it was quite cheap) and now it's ok BTW - Bear is gorgeous!!!
  18. Glad to see you're back on the straight and narrow now!!! I expect you've found the gluten-free products have improved vastly since you were 8 yrs old
  19. Hi!! and welcome!!
  20. Your doc probably means that her IgA total serum was low which means she has a condition called IgA deficiency. This means your daughter doesn't produce enough antibodies - and does not produce enough to get a 'positive' on the coeliac blood test. In these cases the only way to definitely tell if it's celiac disease is the biopsy. Of course, it's...
  21. Yes!!!! BTW - My coeliac son gets boils - flare ups seem to co-incide with being glutened.
  22. My hubby had the crouton experience once when we went out to a restaurant. He'd spoken to the chef, explained what he mustn't have - chef said 'no problem' Dinner was served up with croutons on top (now just what did that chef think they were made from?? ) Hubby thought he'd get away with picking them off....big mistake!!! ...got that...
  23. My Mum has a similar problem (with constant D for the last year 6 or more times daily) She too has had a barrage of tests (all neg) but I sometimes wonder if docs don't dismiss elderly people - as in 'it's old age - you aren't going to feel as good' attitude A couple more thoughts on your Mum, has she been tested for Gall Bladder probs, Pancreatic...
  24. I would have thought the biopsies would have shown something up (e.g blunted villi, cell changes) but I suppose as well biopsies could miss any damaged parts Has your Mum had a colonoscopy as well to check her large bowel?? Sorry I can't be of more help.
  25. Lisa, I read it today in the paper! Don't you just love all that 'pomp and ceremony'!! Is this phrase now in the Rachelville Dictionary??
