  1. I just went to member services and filled out a form and she clicked on her lil buttons on the PC and they printed. Yeah, you really should get them. I was shocked at the things that are listed that they don't bother to tell you!
  2. I'm totally guessing here, but it "almost" sounds like he is using the term "wheat allergy" incorrectly ...and probably means gluten intolerance (which is why he said you don't have a severe case of celiac disease.... but wheat allergy (gluten intolerance is probably what he meant) is a different thing.) BUT ... again I'm just guessing. He may have meant...
  3. I'm so disgusted and untrusting of doctors after just reading through my lab results that I picked up from the doctors office. They didn't send me the "FULL" story... just whether the tests were positive or negative. They told me my EMA was negative.... negative?... NEGATIVE? How can it be negative ... if they NEVER PERFORMED IT? That's not the...
  4. Ugh... I was afraid of that. I was/am a bit confused because he said he was going to check for microscopic colitis, as well, but just gave me info on the endoscopy, so I don't know if he's planning that for the same day or not, or what he's doing. Guess I'd better call. Thanks for the info, and is Micro-Colitis managed with medication or diet or? I really...
  5. Hi All, This is probably a really dumb question, but does anyone know how they test for microscopic colitis? Is it endoscopy or colonoscopy or blood tests or... I'm clueless, but apparently it is closely linked with celiac disease and my doctor said he was going to test for it the day he does my endoscopy for celiac biopsies. He also said he was...
  6. Wow, that's really interesting, Cass... I never related the two either!! My sister will be interested to hear this, as well. Thanks so much for sharing!
  7. Gluten-sensitive neuropathy controversy Is DQ1 associated IGS?. In 2002, a team of British neurologists sorted the gluten-sensitive idiopathic neuropathies(131 individuals) with 41% (58 inds) that were AGA reactive.[25] Although N was not given on DQ studies one assumes that the DQ serotyping was on the set or subset of this 58 individuals or less. Of...
  8. Hi momtotwins, My heart goes out to you, with having to deal with the unanswered questions with your kids. I know if I were in your shoes, I would be turning the earth upside down to find the right answers and solutions for my kids. It's such a hard thing to pin point and even moreso with little ones. I don't know if you have access to a celiac center...
  9. I wouldn't worry about the specific DQ2 that your son has, since just by virtue of having DQ2 he falls into the pool of people who have the genetic predispositon to "possibly" develop or have celiac. You still have to keep a close watch if he doesn't have it now. He will need to have periodic testing through his lifetime to ensure that he hasn't developed...
  10. Flor, You're VERY VERY welcome... happy to help any time I can. Its a fascinating topic, isn't it? Your heritage is VERY MUCH like mine Irish, Scotch-Irish, English, German, Dutch. The reason I asked about the German and Dutch, and the allergies, asthma and eczema in your family history, is that I have the same genetic markers that you and your son have...
  11. I think that's true Raven. From the reading and research that I've done, they have found instances of suspected celiac association with other genes, but it is not common, and the testing still goes on. I don't believe that just because the population carrying those genes is very small... makes it any less critical or important. You're one of the more rare...
  12. Hey cassP... curious about your butterfly rash. What did it look like and did you find a reason for it? I had that happen to me at about... hmmm age 30-32? It was the dead of winter... hadn't been in the sun, but everybody said ... how did you get sunburned? I didn't really thing to much of it other than... I thought it was wierd. Just curious what causes...
  13. Good info... thanks for the post. I'll have to check the Members Mark, but I don't think the Vitamin A was high in those.
  14. Mushroom ... that was such a nice, easy to understand, comprehensive summary... nicely done! Very helpful, to people just arriving, I'm sure! I speak from experience... your comments such as this... and those of other people sure helped me get through the terrified, confused, scared first days of "learning" on here. Thanks again for that!
  15. As far as I know DQB1*0603 has no relation to celiac disease, and in fact may have preventitive properties to autoimmune diseases... that's GOOD news! Curious, by the way... do you happen to be of Dutch or German ancestry? And is there a lot of asthma, allergies, hayfever or eczema in your family history? No need to answer if you don't want to, just...
  16. I'm must confess I love the science of genetics, and since it hits home with me and my family a little bit, I've been like a sponge studying this topic a bit. I'm no expert by any stretch of the imagination, though. I'm happy to help de-mystify if I can though... because it is rather confusing sometimes. To simplify things for you.... lets start at the...
  17. Unfortunately, I too suffer from this... as does my sister. I look completely normal in the morning, and can eat one wrong thing and blow up just like someone used a tire pump on my stomach...its EXTREMELY uncomfortable. I think its pretty common... usually referred to here as "bloating"... you'll see it quite often. Hope you have success figuring out what...
  18. Yeah, about 2 years ago, I had a twitch near my eye... sort of under it off to the side that you could see the skin move and it was SOOOO annoying. I have no idea why I had it... never had it before that. It lasted off an on for about 6 months or so... then vanished. Thankfully, that was the end of it... not sure if it was related to vitamin deficiency at...
  19. You do great! I just stumble around with it too.
  20. ... lil update to my own original post: I found gluten free multivitamins at Sam's Club - Members Mark brand, and while I was there, I found Calcium Citrate with Vitamin D and called them quickly on that, and it is also gluten free! YAY! I'm all set for 400 days.
  21. I'm sorry you're not feeling well goodnews... I know its hard! I had to comment on your post...because I have been telling my husband for a couple of weeks off and on... "I feel like I have a brick in my stomach!" I don't think I've read anyone else saying that... it sort of makes me feel better, seeing that I'm not crazy and someone else feels that, too...
  22. Welcome, PurlQueen, Your story sounds like so many others here. Asking your doctor about celiac disease is a good first step. It's good that you're getting tested before you go gluten free. Hope you feel better real soon!
  23. cassP you're so cute! LOL I love reading your posts! And yes, I would agree with your "findings' Hehee... Flor's son appears to have DQ2 and DQ6. Your "verbage" is a little "off" but you got to the root effectively enough. Hehee.. I'm still smiling...
  24. Hey Flor, Here is a tidbit that "sort of" answers your question: "DQ2 represents the second highest risk factor for coeliac disease, the highest risk is a close family member with disease. Due to its link to coeliac disease, DQ2 has the highest association of any HLA serotype with autoimmune disease, close to 95% of all coeliacs have DQ2, of that 30...
  25. Hi again Flor, I think you guys are confusing serotype groups with allele groups and haplotype isoforms. This explanation may help you sort through it a bit better: "HLA-DQ2 (DQ2) is a serotype group within HLA-DQ (DQ) serotyping system. The serotype is determined by the antibody recognition of β2 subset of DQ β-chains. The β-chain of DQ is en...
