  1. I would doubt you would notice much in 2 weeks, especially if her symptoms are mild.
  2. If she's not on a gluten-free diet, I would contact her pediatrician and request the blood test. It's a blood draw - nothing tramatic. If the blood comes back with indicators, they should refer you to a pediatric GI doctor who will meet with you, examine your daughter, then schedule her for a biopsy. During the biopsy, they take a tiny piece of her small...
  3. This is probably rediculously long - sorry! Some background. We live in a nice area and my son goes to a 'good' public school. In fact, in our area, it's probably the best regarded elementary school in one of the best school districts. My son was diagnosed with ADHD when he was 5 and started medication. The medication helped, but it took us about a...
  4. In order to positively diagnose for celiac disease, you have to have the biopsy to confirm villa damage in the small intestine. You can have a gluten sensitivity or intoloerance and a very severe one without actually having celiac disease. celiac disease is an autoimmune disease where the body attacks itself when gluten is consumed.
  5. I read they've been reformulated and are no longer considered gluten-free. My son has had them in the past with no issue, but I will stay away from them after what I read.
  6. I read the info about your son and ADHD and had to reply! One of the requirements for a diagnosis of ADHD is to rule out everything else (like allergies). It sounds like he was totally misdiagnosed to begin with. As a parent of a child with ADHD - that's upsetting. I'm sorry you had to deal with that. As for your son and camps/sleepovers - you'd...
  7. I would second your husband. If your child has a gluten intolerance or sensitivity, does it really matter if he's actually diagnosed with celiac disease? Younger children are very often mis-diagnosed. Once a person goes gluten-free, they can get REALLY sensitive to gluten, so I don't recommend adding it back in at least until your son can tell you...
  8. My two cents .... I have a 6 year old son that was very quickly diagnosed with celiac disease based on blood tests and a biopsy. His GI doctor explained that the biopsy is currently the golden rule for determining celiac disease or not. Chris' damage was very mild, but he ate very little gluten at the time (by his choice, not mine), so I wouldn't be surprised...
  9. It certainly sounds like some sort of food allergy or intolerance to me. My son didn't really have alot of the classic celiac disease issues - but he did eat like a horse and never gain weight. For younger kids (Chris was diagnosed at 6), malnutrition and the overeating thing seem to be pretty common for celiac disease. I would request the bloodtest and...
  10. I don't think the Trix are gluten-free. I looked quick online and there was something about them changing the ingredients so they are not gluten-free anymore. I know that my mom got Chris some Sweet Tarts for Valentine's Day and they had a label that they were processed in a facility that processes wheat. I hope your son is feeling better soon. My son...
  11. Good luck. We have to suppliment my son because he's still having trouble gaining weight. We use ensure (he loves it and thinks it tastes like chocolate milk, but I think that has dairy in it. I have a friend who's daughter is in your same boat - I'll see if she has any suggestions.
  12. I'm not sure what of this is dairy free and we don't do many convenience foods either, but here are some things Chris likes when we are in a pinch or in his lunch: baked beans (Most of Busch's are gluten-free) Progresso gluten-free soups potatoes (my son loves baked potatoes) Some Dinty More stews are gluten-free Canned vegetables (not sure which are...
  13. Thanks for the recipe. Chris loves certain soups, but egg drop is not one of them (it's the eggs)! The broth sounds delicious though - I'll have to keep it on hand
  14. Thanks! I tried to make a recipe for lo mein noodles before and had trouble with the noodles themselves, so that's a great tip.
  15. Thank you - I think he's had the orange chicken before and liked it as well. Anything crock pot is a thumbs up for me
  16. It can take a bit to start gaining weight. My son was diagnosed in November 2010 and has yet to really put on much weight. We had our checkup with the GI doctor a few weeks ago and he encouraged us to supliment his diet with Ensure (which he was already drinking). My son was given snacks with gluten in them at a daycamp in December and it took him about...
  17. I've heard the testing for young kids can have false negatives, but I also know of several children (around 18 months) that were diagnosed. I don't think it would be a bad idea to have the blood test done on your daughter. It's recommended to keep testing every 2 years, I think, when there's a family member that has celiac disease. My son has it and was...
  18. My son is 6 and was diagnosed with celiac disease in November 2010. The only food he REALLY misses is chinese. As a family, we love it and I have yet to be able to recreate our favorite takeouts. We don't have a PF Changs nearby, unfortunately. Does anyone have really good recipes for any of the following? Lo Mein General Tso Bourbon Chicken ...
  19. If your daughter was on a mostly gluten-free diet when she was tested, it could happen that her blood test came back negative. I've also heard of people who's blood test came back negative, but an endo showed celiac disease. She sounds like she has symptoms. You could demand and endo, or you could just take her gluten-free - there's nothing wrong with...
  20. My son isn't diabetic, but he does have celiac disease. I try to follow a very naturally gluten-free diet for him as he's not crazy about the special gluten-free foods. His dinners are almost exclusively a meat, vegetable, and potato or rice. He eats salads for lunch alot, but likes pears and pudding (which you could get sugar free). What are some foods...
  21. I would say going gluten-free would definitely help then. I did a basic internet search and founds lots of info relating celiac disease & hemorroids. You can go gluten-free without alot of fancy foods. We barely buy anything from the gluten-free aisle at our store. I got rid of wheat flour immediately. We aren't 100% gluten-free in our house, but...
  22. Does she go to daycare? If so - I would strongly suspect she's getting cross contamination there. My daughter's nanny worked in a daycare that had a child with Celiac Disease (probaby about your daughter's age). Their way of avoiding CC was to sit her in the same seat all the time. They didn't clean very well and didn't tell anyone else their braintrust...
  23. Has your son been diagnosed with a gluten intolerance and/or Celiac Disease? I'm not sure why you think the gluten free diet will help. If he has celiac disease or a gluten intolerance, then, start the gluten-free diet yesterday. Otherwise, I would definitely take him back to the doctor and figure out why he has a hemeroid.
  24. I'm not sure I'd worry about that unless you notice something. If you are worried, wash them in warm water.
  25. I would ask them if it's gluten-free - if not, they probably have an alternative. Just in case, I would take your daughter's toothpaste - it would be better than nothing!
