  1. I used to let it run its course because I didn't know what was wrong with me and I had always heard that if you have a stomach bug or ate something bad that it's better to get it all out of your system. However, after being ill for months I started taking Immodium so that I wouldn't have to spend my whole life in the bathroom. It usually helps me. ...
  2. Thank you, I'm gluten free and vegan too. Happy Earth Day!
  3. Well I had my endo yesterday. I was so stressed about it but it went fine. I laid on my side under a blanket, they fluffed my pillow, put a mouth guard in my mouth, and then they put the drugs in my IV and I was out. The next thing I knew someone was waking me up in the recovery room. I had a little bit of a sore throat afterward, and an upset stomach but...
  4. Thanks everybody! Endo tomorrow -- wish me luck.
  5. What if you told your husband you just want to TRY it for a little while? He is not being very supportive. Just remember it is YOUR life and YOUR body, and YOUR decision. He doesn't want to be inconvenienced by your diet restrictions, but it is YOU that will be sick if you eat gluten, so he's not really being fair to you. I was not happy about the gluten...
  6. I've had TMJ for a long time and have noticed it worsening as I've been eating lots of gluten in prep. for my endo. (Among other symptoms that seem to be cropping up lately.) It's weird how many seemingly random symptoms so many of us seem to have in common.
  7. So the blood tests could say positive for celiac but if the biopsy is negative, does that mean it's intolerance and not celiac? I'm confused... I'm starting to see the connection between eating gluten and not feeling well, so I'm going to go gluten free right after the test Thursday. (Do you know how long it usually takes to get the biopsy results?...
  8. OK thanks. I don't know why I thought it would be one or the other - skin problems or GI problems. (Maybe because having both isn't fair? Ha ha.) The other new symptom I've had lately is my eye keeps twitching, which is weird and annoying. Don't know if that's celiac or something else wrong with me. I have been making a conscious effort to eat gluten...
  9. My stomach problems are what led me to the doctor in the first place. My blood tests say I have celiac, and I'm getting an endo on Thursday to confirm the diagnosis. Now I am having sinus headaches for the last couple weeks, is this possibly celiac-related? And will they postpone my endo if I'm having sinus issues? (I'm now at the point where I want to...
  10. I guess I'll wait till after endo (blood tests say I have it) to decide whether to get little ones tested. I have suggested the blood test for some (adult) members of my family but they act like this is some kind of little project I have, or a phase or something. Finally I told my mom I am not trying to drag her down with me -- if she has it, she could stop...
  11. That describes it exactly, Jeannie. And Heather, I have said those exact words to my husband and he looked at me the same way. I guess I'm not the only one then!
  12. For years, I have been having skin pain/sensitivity on my hands and arms. It comes and goes, usually only on one arm at a time. You can't see anything, no rash or anything. It doesn't itch. Someone suggested it's my joints and not my skin, and I guess it seems weird that I can't really pinpoint where it actually hurts, if it's my skin or joints. I remember...
  13. I do spinach smoothies too! When I give it to my little ones, I call it swamp juice (think Shrek) and they love it. (It's all in the name -- broccoli is called dinosaur trees at my house.) They love peanut butter smoothies too: peanut butter, bananas, rice (or soy) milk, vanilla yogurt, ice cubes and a little Stevia or agave nectar. Don't put in too much...
  14. Protein is supposed to curb hunger/make you feel full. When I was trying to lose weight, I made sure to eat some protein with every meal so that I wouldn't have the munchies all day, and it seems to work. I found a few vegan, gluten-free protein powders too that I am going to try when I cut gluten. I put protein powder, rice milk, bananas and frozen...
  15. I apologize if this has already been discussed. I recently had blood tests that show I have celiac and I am getting an endoscopy next month. I am wondering if my kids might have it too, only because I know it is hereditary. Should I get them tested? Should I wait until after the biopsy? My daughter is kind of a cranky little stinker but that could just...
  16. I have not cut out gluten yet (waiting for endo) but I can relate because I've been a vegan for years. This is what I've learned: 1. Some people just don't get it. They eat whatever they want and they don't understand allergies/sensitivities/ethical choices. They're not being mean on purpose; they're just uneducated about your issue. 2. Some people...

    ARCHIVED Sad

I can't talk to my husband, he doesn't really get it. When I went through this before, being depressed, he would worry about me and call me during the day to ask "how I'm feeling" in a way that seems patronizing even though I know he doesn't mean to be. I can't take that right now. I have asked (begged) him to put off some household projects that he...

    ARCHIVED Sad

I am on here looking for something to tell me that my depression will go away when I stop eating gluten but it doesn't seem like that's going to happen overnight huh? (I'm still eating gluten until my endoscopy in April.) I have had ups and downs in the past but the past few days I've been having the worst depression ever. Since I got the blood test results...
  19. Awesome! Thanks!
  20. I'm a vegan too, so I'm in the same boat. And I'm dealing with headaches too. (I'm still eating gluten until after endoscopy.) Trying to figure out what is vegan and gluten-free. I didn't think there would be gluten in tofu, is there?
  21. I'm right there with you. Gives me a headache just thinking about how inconvenient this is going to be. I'm still eating gluten because I'm getting an endoscopy next month to get the "official" diagnosis; I REALLY don't want to restrict my diet unless I have to. (I am a vegan which already requires a lot of label reading, and avoiding most restaurants...
  22. I have a heightened sense of smell too, I always thought it was because I'm hearing impaired (I've heard people who lose one sense have other senses heightened to make up for it). Is heightened sense of smell a common symptom of celiac disease? I have not been officially diagnosed (blood tests only; waiting for endoscopy). I've been attributing all of...
  23. Wow, thanks to all of you for your thoughtful responses! I guess I will go ahead and do the endoscopy. I probably will need the "official" diagnosis before I change my whole diet. I am a vegan so it will be an inconvenience to do vegan AND gluten free. I eat a lot of pasta, grains, meat substitutes (many of which contain gluten) so it will be hard. I guess...
  24. Hi I'm new to this board and I am confused about my test results -- and my doc wants me to have an upper endoscopy which I really don't want to do! Here are my abnormal results: (tTG) Ab, IgA: >100 endomysial AB IgA: Positive Endomysial AB Titer: 1:160 Is it possible these could mean something ELSE is wrong with me, or are these results specific...
