ARCHIVED Still Sick

thanks for the advice. I will post more once my biopsy results come back. cross your fingers for me! -
Just wanted to post that the Betty Crocker Brownie mix is amazing. Tastes so good like real brownies. I found the mix at the grocery store (Schnucks in St. Louis). They also have cake and cookie mixes.

ARCHIVED Shelf Stable gluten-free Foods For Travel
NateJ replied to Mizzo's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
do the zone bars that are gluten free say so? I found that brand at Target but couldn't figure out if they were glutten free or not. I didn't see any indication on the packages that said they were. -
ARCHIVED Misdiagnosed?
NateJ replied to samiam2's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
it is very daunting to think about such a change. I'm going through it right now. only 2.5 weeks off gluten. But its about taking care of yourself and not getting worse. Look to your family and friends for support. -
ARCHIVED A Few Things I Have Learned While Dining Out
NateJ replied to Rowena's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
if there is a phobia from eating out I for sure have it. I traveled for the last five years and I can't tell you how many times I would get sick from meals when no one else did. I always ordered safe stuff too, like red meet well done or salads. It took me a while to figure out that they were probably preparing the meals in pans or on counters that had been... -
ARCHIVED Misdiagnosed?
NateJ replied to samiam2's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
well to me 'borderline' sounds like you are going to get worse if you don't stop eatting glutten. I would ask your Dr. My father-in-law was told he was borderline diabetic and if he didn't stop eating so much fatty and sugary stuff he would have to take insulin. so in my mind borderline celiac or gluten intolerance would mean they can see you villi decaying... -
ARCHIVED Still Sick

thats encouraging. I was relying on the Ensure though to make me gain some weight. Any suggestions on another health shake? one that doesn't have soy or glutten in it? I have an appt. for a follow up with my GI on April 8th but he said if my biopsy results come back sooner i could call. I guess i'll wait for that then go make an appt. with a dietician... -

OMG! Fruity pebbles are gluten free? You just made my life! I had no idea. I'm going to the store right now to by some. -
that is completely unnerving to hear a Dr say that. I really think there is something completely wrong with the healthcare system. not just talking about insurance but the whole thing in general. My insurance won't pay for a holistic Dr. or at least the only one I found searching the link in this thread says they don't take insurance and the Dr. doesn't...

ARCHIVED Still Sick

well, I probably haven't been as strict as what you all are saying. Its hard starting off cause so many things I love are gluten. I just got back from the hospital after an overnight stay. apparently my Dr. thought it a good idea to just get admitted to get all the tests done with. so i had blood tests, which were good for white count, etc. stool test... -
ARCHIVED Still Sick

I had a scope done on Dec 28 and for whatever reason the GI told me they didn't find anything and said it was probably IBS. But she also told me IBS would never get worse. I've always had stomach problems since i was a kid, but since I got the flu last fall I've never recovered. I've been getting progressivley worse to the point of not leaving my house for... -
Today is gluten free day #14 and i'm getting worse. I cut it out completely 2 weeks ago and had some good days and bad, but yesterday and today have been terrible. I started back to work yesterday after 3 weeks off and my symptoms are not improving at all. Still have 'D', constant stomach pain. tender to touch and the pressure bloating feeling every day....

What is a good gluten free bread? i bought a brand that is just downright nasty. its so dry and really has a horrible taste. I've been doing all the other things you stated. Sometimes its hard for me to eat first thing in the morning but I can usually have an Ensure then eat about 1 hour later.

just from the grocery store. It was in the meat section. like already made patties. Not the ones in the boxes but the ones in a meat package. It just said 100% USDA beef on it.

ARCHIVED A Bit Of Humor To Help Us Along
NateJ replied to T.H.'s topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Ha yeah. i've never had a butt. so we need a song about that. -
Does anyone have a problem digesting red meat specifically hamburger? I ate a hamburger last (no bread) night and shortly after finishing my ab started pulsating. My wife said it felt like a baby kicking. It lasted until i went to sleep. It actually got sort of violent a few times, making me jump. It was like i could feel it traveling through me all...

ARCHIVED How Long Til gluten-free Diet Shows Cognitive Improvements?
NateJ replied to Twizzel's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
My depression and mood has gotten so bad everyone says I'm negative all the time. And I am. I wont' deny it. Just can't recall when it actually started, but it for sure has gotten worse. To the point of not being able to enjoy anything in life. Night out with friends becomes unbearable, not wanting to spend time with my kids, or listen to their problems... -
4-6 oz does not sound like a lot. but i've never been a big eater. I always had that eat to much then end up with nausea problem. Sometimes be sick for 2-3 days. so I try to limit myself to small meals throughout the day. really just snacks, not even meals. Dinner is always the most, then i won't eat anything before bed. Seems to be helping a lot more with...

Its really to rule out everything. My GI is not certain what the cause of my pain and D are and neither am I. But after being sick for 10 years and then really really sick for the past two months my whole life is suffering. Its like i stated earlier. If this diet works, I don't care what the test says. I'm staying off gluten. If it doesn't work, then no...

ARCHIVED Pains?
NateJ replied to scottyg354's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Like someone punched you in the gut? i've had them for about 2 months now. almost constant. the only relief i get is when i sleep. -
Interesting. i tried an egg for breakfast a few days in a row. but more protein? Can to much protein be bad? just wondering cause only weighing 115 and having the metabolism of 10 people sometimes changing my diet suddenly or eating something weird causes me instant symptoms. So humiliating. My 16 yr old daughter weighs only 10 lbs less than me and shes...

Thats the main reason I'm sticking to it. I think i can deal with the constant sharp pain in my stomach as the 'D' goes away. At least until I get the scopes done on the 30th. I'm just wanting to make sure its not an ulcer or whatever else would cause sharp pains there. I have been reading some things about adhesions after surgery. But i don't a fever at...
