I read tums has gluten in it. multiple sources too. I would avoid that.

Its a necessary evil sometimes. I've learned to avoid the ER at all costs because of what you have just said and the wait times are usually beyond insane with the horde of people that have no insurance that just have the flu or a cold virus. I know i'm not anemic. never have been and I just had blood work done about 3 weeks ago that showed everything normal...

that's the most frustrating part for me. I felt so good after going gluten free in Mar of 2011. I had a social life and was doing great at work. Even got a new better job. Now i'm back to where I was. sick all the time and stressed out loosing weight. I could start a whole other thread about the quality of health care and doctors in general but i'm sure...

a colonoscopy and/or endoscopy might work to find a damaged area if there is one. I had numerous before I was diagnosed and would laugh when they told me the results. "yes sir your intestines are really inflamed, but we have no idea why." The bloating and pain is hard to manage but I think I mentioned in another post that starving myself does work. I some...

This sounds very similar to my symptoms. As of yet I haven't found anything lately that doesn't upset me. How long has this lasted?

I'm actually doing that with the guidance of a dietician. So far everything makes me feel sick. I stopped taking a med my dr put me on because she thinks I have an ulcer. It was giving me really bad migraines which I haven't had in years. I'm thinking about trying probiotics next. She wants me to see a new GI too. Ugh it's frustrating.

I'm just going to vent because I know this is probably the only place people will understand. I'm tired of being sick. After 18 months of feeling normal I am sick again. Something is inflaming my stomach and I can't figure out why. The worst part is I've tried a lot to feel better and nothing works. My doctor is clueless and just wants to throw pills...

5' 9" 122 lbs. still looking for the weight gain magic solution. haven't found one yet. I have noticed after keeping a food diary the past few days that I don't take in nearly enough calories to match what I should be to even maintain weight let alone gain. have you tried keeping track of that?

its interesting this topic was at the top. I just saw a dietician for the first time last week. After being gluten free for over two years and feeling good, I've had numerous health problems the last few months and was desperate for help. She has put me on FODMAPs which I just started, while her knowledge of gluten free or Celiac wasn't anymore than I've...

and I just a laughed out loud when I saw my own profile picture/avatar thing. I haven't seen that in awhile

Hey everyone, Haven't been around lately. lots of personal stuff going on but wanted to ask a couple questions to fellow Celiacs'. 1. Have you ever had issues with an ulcer? I recently developed one and needless to say its very painful. I wasn't sure if it was my diet or getting some gluten by accident and not healing up right. If so, what experiences...

ARCHIVED P F Chang's Gluten Free Options
NateJ replied to sundrop32's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
No. I've eaten there twice, two different places in two different cities, no issues. The servers could use my training, but I didn't get sick. -

ARCHIVED Got Any Funnys From Friends/family Trying To Understand?
NateJ replied to Chad Sines's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
A friend asked me last night, "aren't you going to eat?". I said no i already ate before I came. He said what did you eat? Cheerios? LOL, uh no dude I cannot eat Cheerios. He laughed after he realized what he said. -
ARCHIVED Emotional Scars From Celiac
NateJ replied to sandsurfgirl's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
There needs to be more support groups or something for this. Something more local that everyone could meetup. I saw someone in the store the other day with gluten-free items and thought about striking up a conversation with him, but didn't. My wife and I split in May after 15 years of marriage. I could tell she was just exhausted from my sickness and... -
ARCHIVED Why Aren't Doctors Up To Speed?
NateJ replied to SarahJimMarcy's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I've had better luck with teaching Dr.s or hospitals. They students are a lot more likely to pay closer attention to your history and symptoms. At least in my experience. I saw numerous Dr.s over 10+ years, so many symptoms and issues. It wasn't until I went to a Uni Dr. that they finally diagnosed me. They actually used the slides from a previous biopsy... -
It adds to the humiliation, isolation, and general disconnect you feel when avoiding sharing with a group. It gets better over time. Or maybe you just get used to it. I've started calling Friday, Gluten Friday, at my work. They always bring in breakfast, and it always is something gluten based. Doughnuts, pastries, bagels, breakfast sandwiches. I never...

ARCHIVED Ugh! People Just. Don't. Get. It.
NateJ replied to zus888's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
This thread breaks my heart. I struggle with this everyday. I'm sorry you have to go through this but coming hear helps me. My stupid boss is eating steak n shake right next to me and I want to scream at him! Just keep reminding yourself of all you have to be healthy for, your friends, family, things you do that make you happy. -
For me the best indicator is what I ate. The other day I used a pan that i thought could have been contimated and sure enough I was horrible for part of the day. Once the D passed i was ok. Also, I never throw up if its gluten. I want to, but vomitting is also a sure sign for me thats its something more serious. Try keeping track of your symptoms when you...

Where at in STL? I got a couple of places I heard about. You can message me if you want.

Ab pain was mild, mostly nausea, constant nausea. GERD. Reflux. D all the time every day no matter what I ate. other symptoms included migraines, kidney stones, and fatigue. some severe bloating towards the end and weight loss. I lost 40 lbs over 15 years from 20-35

So true all of that. Healthcare in the US is complete garbage. Dr. office's are assembly lines, and ERs are clinics for people w/o insurance. I say the very same thing all the time. I must have been Hitler or something in a past life
-
judging by what I've read here in the past, people seem to have different levels of reaction. They vary widely as do the symptoms. I try not to be to overly crazy about it, but when I get to not feeling good I kick myself for being lazy. I wonder if there is a list of safe cosmetic products. Like normal store bought ones? I don't have time to order or go...

I'll have to get the results of my blood work from the Dr. I didn't actually look at it. All the nurse specifically mentioned was my thyroid was good. They are always wanting to check that because I'm so underweight. I've gained 13 pounds since I went gluten-free. But I'm still probably 25 off a normal weight. 5'9" ? not sure what normal would be. I have...

wow. that was really kind of gross. funny, but gross. I like this topic. It points out that we all have a job to raise awareness. Even if its just to our closest friends and family. I'll happily take the ridicule from friends and coworkers and try to shake it off if it means that I won't get poisoned in the process. I won't lie and say it doesn't bother...
