ARCHIVED Insensitive Family Members
NateJ replied to smc's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Same issue here. I've been alienated from my family and pretty much disowned by my parents. At first it really upset me, and still sort of does like on holidays I spend alone but overall I wouldn't have it different. I'm not going to poison myself just to make them happy. I've had to make a number of lifestyle changes over the years including being an... -
Welcome! you will probably get a load of different opinions here, but your best bet is to call the manufacturers. You will get all kinds of different legal sounding answers but usually what I do is if the manufactures says anything besides "Yes our product is gluten free and we test it" I will throw it out and try something else. I'm not sure what the laws...

ARCHIVED Did Everyone Have A Biopsy To Determine Celiac?
NateJ replied to michelle5578's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I've had 3 Endoscopies and 2 Colonoscopies in the span of about 4 years. All the Drs said I was negative but my symptoms became progressively worse until they took my gall bladder out in Dec. '10 I then ordered my pathology slides be sent to a new GI at Washington U med center in StL and she said after reviewing them that it was obvious to any first year... -
NP. i Dr. friend of mine sent that to me.

ARCHIVED Kidney Stones Linked To Celiac Disease?
NateJ replied to keithceliac2010's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I've battled the Oxalate stones since i was 18 (now 35). My urologist assured me they are not related, but I don't think they really know. Currently or as of Feb/Mar both my kidneys are full of debris. I actually passed a rather large stone on St. Pats day. I've had void test done, and taken stones in I've passed to the Dr. but they don't have any reason... -
ARCHIVED Does Celiac "define" Who I Am?
NateJ replied to CarolinaKip's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I sort of disagree. I would say Celiac does define me. It has ruled my life for so long (even when I didn't know it). And only when I accepted it did I learn to start to control it. Its always there, every day in the back of my mind. Everytime I get that little bit of discomfort or anxiety (did I get gluttened?). Just like the last poster said. I am a... -
ARCHIVED "glutened" Symptoms - When Did They Start?
NateJ replied to Katrala's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
yep, you hit the nail on the head. people just don't get it and don't want to get it. I would have thought it sounded goofy too. The gluten-free fad diet running around doesn't help either. But most people just kind of look at me like oh that sucks and then 5 min later ask me if I want a beer. Its just been probably the worst 6 months of my life. And feeling... -
ARCHIVED "glutened" Symptoms - When Did They Start?
NateJ replied to Katrala's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I've been gluten free for about 2 months now. Learning as I go. My wife has been pretty supportive most of the time, but I think she gets frustrated. Easter was my first 'holiday' and she got mad when i didn't want to go to her family's house. They are very stubborn and not the nicest people anyway. I'm pretty sure it was cross contamination. her mom cooks... -

ARCHIVED "glutened" Symptoms - When Did They Start?
NateJ replied to Katrala's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I'm pretty sure I got gluttoned yesterday. Happy Easter to me. After getting made fun of by my wife and brother in law at the grocery store, then enduring an hour of ridicule from my in-laws I ate Ham, potatoe salad and carrots. Not sure what they put in it but I've been horrible all morning now. I'm never eating on holidays again. D, cramps, fatigue... -
ARCHIVED Coffee
NateJ replied to NateJ's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I think its the consistency for me, there are mushey and heavy with a strange flavor, probably the dates. Aren't Luna the ones marketed to women, its says something about the balanced bar for women on the front or something like that. -
I'm not good and baking or cooking for that matter. I'm learning slowly. I tried some of the make from scratch bread and it was horrible. So I started buying the Udi's after that. I can usually make a loaf last a full week so its not too bad. And I still just buy reg. bread for my kids. On a the up side the gluten-free Bisquick makes some really good biscuits...

well thats good to know so i didn't waste 10 bucks on a 6 pack or 10 on a 20 oz at the stadium. Oh well, i probably shouldn't be drinking anyway with my gut problems.

ARCHIVED Coffee
NateJ replied to NateJ's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I actually got one and posted it in the food section. I sent them and email and they replied right away. basically said none of there bars are gluten-free because they are made in a wheat processing facility, but they have a list of bars they do not contain gluten. -
Got this email from Zone Perfect. Hello Nate, Thank you for your interest in our ZonePerfect® Nutrition Bars and ZonePerfect.com. None of the ZonePerfect Nutrition bars are considered gluten-free because they are all made in a facility that processes wheat. However, the following ZonePerfect bars are not made with any gluten-containing ingredients,...

no, no blood sugar issues, really just when i haven't eaten i get migranes and tummy aches. But as long as I eat every 3-4 hours I'm ok.
-
I've just been trying them each one by one, started with the cheapest. I'm still in sticker shock over some of the gluten-free items. Like the Udi muffins are over 5 a pack. and the bread is over 5. I spent 65 dollars just on gluten-free stuff and still had to buy all my normal groceries. I need a raise.
-
Udi is very dry to me. but its the only gluten-free bread I have found that doesn't taste horrible. I keep hearing about the Katz but I have not seen it at any store that I've gone to.
-
i could stand to gain 5 or 50 lbs so I am going to eat these every day! Thanks!

donuts? WHAT? WHERE

oh i'm color blind too. I can't see red/yellow/or brown! LOL i think i will just stay away from the Rudi's. It confuses and frightens me now.
-
you know. i was thinking that there must have been because i bought the Rudi's at a gluten free bakery. So i went to the store yesterday and all the flavors in the freezer had wheat! so i went home to check online and couldn't find anything conclusive. I'll probably call the place i bought it from. I am just confused and plus the name being so close...

Same problem here. Used to weigh close to 150 back in 1994. But over the last 10 years I'm down to 115. I'm 5'9". Just started gluten-free diet and haven't really found the right combo to put the weight back on. I've tried Ensure shakes to supplement but they seem to tear my gut up. Lara bars do the same and I'm not a fan of the taste but i choke them...
