  1. Does anyone listen to them? I absolutely love Andrew McMahon. I can't wait until The Glass Passenger releases September 30th---my 18th birthday! It's the ultimate gift, ever! -Ash.
  2. I'm the only one . . . though, I strongly believe my mother has Celiac Disease as well. She refuses to do a biopsy due the fear of being put down under. She had inconclusive blood tests, then they were negative. But, she's got so many symptoms. It gets furstrating. I have to constantly clean everything or get cross-contaminated. -Ash.
  3. I noticed about a few months before getting D'xed that my scalp was always itchy or broke out in red, painful bumps. There are plently of gluten-free shampoos out there. Definitely ditch anything that has hyrdolized wheat protein in it. Also avoid wheat germ, germ, oats, and so on. -Ash.
  4. It makes me furious that vegans are catered to but not Celiacs. I was in JROTC for three years than quit because I knew there was no way I was getting into the Air Force. Well, thanks for the info, Debmidge. It's interesting to keep up with. -Ash
  5. I think to receive communion is a personal choice. I still partcipate in communion, having faith that God will protect me. The gluten content in our communion wafers are low-gluten level and I've never experience a problem and I react severly to exposure. But, that's just me. . . It's a difficult decision; it's not something that's black and white. Regardless...
  6. I recently did a search on gluten-free restuarants near Nashville and I came up with Matteo's Pizza. They have a dedicated room for all the gluten-free pizzas and such. I was wondering if anyone's ever been there and what you think of it. My 18th birthday is September 30th and I really want to go to this place to celebrate!
  7. A good thing to send your child off to school with is a pair of child-size vinvyl gloves. A lot of teachers will push off 'oh no, it's a little---it won't hurt you.' Of course, it won't protect your child from hauling off and eating the art supplies, but, it will protect their little hands from breaking out.
  8. It varies from person to person. For me, it's never went away---and I've been strictly gluten-free for 3 years My right side painfully sticks out and I just don't know why. My GI isn't too worried about it. Oh well. Just give your daughter's small intestines time to heal. The better she adheres to the diet, the better her stomach will be. Most...
  9. Hello, I'm Ashley. I live in TN. My Dx age was 14, my current age is 17. I'll be eighteen in a few months. -What were you thinking when you were diagnosed? I was sort of blank. I knew it was coming, but, I really didn't want to believe it. -How did you react when you heard? Calmly. I just told my doctor 'okay, and thank you.' -How did you family react...
  10. I was shopping at Walmart the other and I went down the cereal aisle, expecting to get my usual box of Fruity Pebbles when I ran into these! It's my Friends Tigger & Pooh cereal, a show little kid show on Disney. The cereal is produced by General Mills. I got to reading and it looks gluten-free to me. Here's the ingredients: Whole grain corn...
  11. Thanks everyone---I've got a lot baking to do
  12. Has anyone found a decent substitute for poptarts? I've looked everywhere but yet to find any gluten-free version.
  13. Ha! These were great, they made me laugh My personal Celiac moment: You know if you're a Celiac if you scream infrustration of seeing 'GUILT-FREE' on food boxes and mistaking it as 'gluten-free'. I don't like whoever coined that phrase.
  14. There we go! Problem fixed. The silly thing posted itself while I was mid-typing!
  15. Ingredients 8 string cheese sticks 1/2 cup all-purpose flour [i use Bob's Red Mills.] 1/2 cup cornstarch 2 large egg whites 2 tablespoons water 1 1/2 cups bread crumbs [i use Wild Oat's gluten-free bakehouse brand.] 1/2 teaspoon salt 1 teaspoon oregano 1. Get three bowls. In the 1st bowl: combine gluten-free flour and cornstarch, blend together...
  16. I'm gonna have to make Monday's entree for myself lol! Thanks for posting it!
  17. I was thrilled when I received my laptop as a gift for school. It was all great until my 3-month subscription for Norton ran out. I didn't feel comfortable with renewing over a wire connection because of Id theft. Then it popped into my head that I could just install my McAfee that I had on my PC that uses 2000. But I completely forgot that it was Vista and...
  18. Hi! I work at Maggie Moos, an ice cream shop. I absolutely love my job and my employers! They have been so nice and patient with me, especially with recurring sicknesses [from a freak allergic reaction from an unknown source to calling out sick for two weeks because constant pain on the right side of my stomach, originally thought to be gallbladder failure...
  19. Thank you both SO much! This definitely helped!
  20. Hi there Meline--- I try not to be so negative, I just have my bad days. I think its just I take more on than what I should lol I do work out and I have notice that it does help my stomach, but not much on extended part. I'm trying to be persistent with it. I try to go at 3-4 times a week to the gym. Just talking to me would be great. I apperciate...
  21. Wish I could eat three non-gluten brownies. If I did, I'd be in the ER Anyway, that is a major sign for me when I get glutened. I cannot sleep at all. Take care---and make sure you don't gluten yourself anymore I know its hard but you're harming yourself for an emotional need. I always try to find something super good at the store and hide it for...
  22. This past 6 months have been rough. I've had Celiac for 3 years now and I thought I was a veteran. Guess not. I had gotten into a rough patch and got very sick and missed over two weeks of school. My GI ran blood work. Everything came back negative but my blood levels were twice as high from last year; going from my all time best to my all time worse...
  23. Hi all- I'm going a synthesis paper [document-based] for AP English on Celiac Disease. I need at least three sources but I'm having trouble having ones that have all the information to were I can cite it. I'm looking for a any kind of graph or chart that deals with anything Celiac. If anyone could guide me in the path, that'd be great. -Ash.
  24. I've had a reaction and the only thing different I've consumed is my birth control. I just started monday, but I forgot two days because I spent the night with a friend. I took three pills of Alesse [generic version of Lessina.] on Wedneday to make up for it. I woke up with my caperillies broken. Is this gluten-free or no?
  25. Thanks everyone---all your posts make me smile So here's the deal with that: When we were in DC, one of the chaperones, who was my room leader, called the DC police and they said it was out of their power, because it was school function and according to TN, it's considered school property if you're on a trip. So we didn't file anything until we...
