Debbie B in MD replied to alex11602's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
We are just about to finish our 9th year of homeschooling. There are many great reasons to homeschool. We are brand new to celiac. My 10th grade daughter is in the middle of being diagnosed. So this is more than just a great new reason to be homeschooling. One of the first things she was concerned about was college. I called her first choice and talked to... -

ARCHIVED New Symptom; Doctor Won't Test For Celiac
Debbie B in MD replied to Nancy19's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
If your TSH is like that and your doc isn't doing something about that, you need a NEW DOCTOR. Also if she is refusing a celiac panel, you need a NEW DOCTOR!!!!! Hashimotos and celiac run together. Also you most likely are not absorbing your meds, yet another indication of celiac possibilites. I have had thyroid issues since I was 9. I am 44. Please, please... -
ARCHIVED Hungry A Lot
Debbie B in MD replied to Monael's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
You need to make sure you are getting enough calories. Try good fats to satisfy you. Check out this page on Marks Daily Apple. I have nothing to do with the site other than that I read it a lot. Open Original Shared Link -
ARCHIVED Overeating/cravings
Debbie B in MD replied to joej1's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Since you have cut out carbs from grains and starchy veggies, you have really cut your calories. You need the fat calories for satiation and all the good fatty acids they contain. Check this out about fat in your diet at Mark's Daily Apple. Open Original Shared Link The whole site is very informative. Good luck and check out avacados. -
ARCHIVED Is There Any Chocolate Without Soy
Debbie B in MD posted a topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I think that soy makes my nose and cheeks tingle. About a week or so ago, I started eating dark chocolate and my nose and cheeks started to tingle. It went away after a couple of days. I tried chocolate yesterday and guess what.....tingle! Drats. So now it is gluten, soy or chocolate in general, eggs, and milk. Cheese and sour cream seem okay. What do you... -

ARCHIVED How Common Is It To Not Have Diarrhea And Have Celiac?
Debbie B in MD replied to Candikane's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I think I might be a bit demanding as far as the blood tests. She is your daughter and you know her best. -
ARCHIVED Does My Son Have Celiac?
Debbie B in MD replied to Robear's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I completely understand how you feel about a blood test, I really do. Aside from giing him a blood test, which doesn't take very long, the only other thing I can think of is an elimination diet, but that seems impossible with the daycare. I hate to say it, but it seems like a blood test would be the best thing you can try in your situation. You will hold... -

ARCHIVED Just Saw The Gi For My Daughter Argh!
Debbie B in MD replied to Debbie B in MD's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Oh, I forgot to tell you.... On the way home we stopped at Subway for lunch. Gluten-fest. An hour later her stomach was upset, she had a headache and she needed a nap. It could have been exhaustion from being upset, but I am really sure it was the gluten. She hasn't had any since, feels well, and we have a second opinion to schedule. But my mind is pretty... -

ARCHIVED Just Saw The Gi For My Daughter Argh!
Debbie B in MD replied to Debbie B in MD's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Guess what she had a gluten-filled sub for lunch and cookies and now she has an unpset stomach, headache and is sooooo tired. Hmmm what do you think that means?? Me thinks she doesn't need a scope. Opinions please. -
ARCHIVED Just Saw The Gi For My Daughter Argh!
Debbie B in MD posted a topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I am a bit frustrated. I know I am not a doctor, but in the last few weeks I have read ALOT.... He told me false positives on blood tests are common and false negatives on endoscopy biopsies are rare. These are both a contradiction to what I have learned. He also intimated that celiac is the lastest panacea. He wants to do a scope. I do not. We scheduled... -
ARCHIVED My Daughter Has Follow Up With Gi Today
Debbie B in MD posted a topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
We are going to the GI today. Her blood work was really positive, so this is really for confirmation I guess. I think I will decline an endoscope. She is responding well to the gluten-free diet. Her d and c is much better. Hopefully, this doc will be well informed. We shall see. I am having symptoms this week. My muscle pain is back in my shin and forearm... -

Brilliant!! -
You just made me think of the commercial that 95%of Amercians don't get enough whole grains. Between government and commercials we are very lucky to have found out our true issue of celiac.

Fathead is really great. You might want to visit marksdailyapple.com or checkout some primal/paleo diet sites. "Good Calories, Bad Calories" by Gary Taubes is excellent. It is thick and deep, but really eye opening. "Primal Mind, Primal Body" is also excellent. Great explanation about insulin and its affects on fat storage. The Taubes book really explains...

ARCHIVED Healing Time & Nutrient Absorption
Debbie B in MD replied to pondy's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
While I wish it would only take a week for everyone to heal, if that long, I am glad to hear that it may take a bit of time. I have been gluten-free since Jan 17th of this year. I do feel a whole lot better, but I am hoping to come much farther. My birthday is in June, bu then I'll really be seeing more improvement. That would be a great birthday present... -
ARCHIVED Cc - Pots And Pans
Debbie B in MD replied to dube's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
This all sounds like our house needs to be completely gluten-free. My non-affected son and husband can go out whenever and get some pizza or whatever. My daughter and I will eat in our safe gluten free environment. I think I need to go shopping!!!! Thanks for all of this wonderful help. -
ARCHIVED Healing Time & Nutrient Absorption
Debbie B in MD replied to pondy's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I believe it can be fairly soon depending on the amount of damage you had. My hair started growing better within a month. That is a minor, maybe major, miracle. -
