ARCHIVED Food Allergy Vs CeliacMitziG replied to MichelleD's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms You will probably need a biopsy to get the celiac dx, and you need to be eating gluten for that. However, with your tongue swelling, I would be hesitant to do so- you may have an actual allergy. Or you could have an allergy AND celiac! I guess you have to use your judgement there- you don't want to risk anaphalaxis! Just keep in mind that being gluten-free...

ARCHIVED How To Deal With Celiacs When Youve Been Exposed To It The Next Day?MitziG replied to cweeks10's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease Get some apple cider vinegar (braggs organic) and have her drink a teaspoon in a glass of water. Hot baths with epsom salts too. The acv will either help her vomit it all up, or settle her stomach. Either way, she will feel better. She can take it as often as needed. The epsom salts will help detox from the gluten. I wouldn't bother with the hospital. They...

Relax. You sound very normal. For a Celiac anyway. While a few people get relief within days, for most it takes months, and for a few unfortunate ones, years, to heal. Reacting stronger now than you did just a few weeks ago is very normal as well, and it is actually a good sign. Your body is fighting back now- important step in healing. The next few months...

ARCHIVED So Fed UpMitziG replied to Mnicole1981's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms Yup, I was just going to suggest the ACV. It really works! Must be organic with the "mother" look for Braggs ACV

ARCHIVED Help With Endoscopy Findings?MitziG replied to rose03's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms Your dr is not the brightest. You are most likely losing weight because of celiac. A gluten free diet will stop the weight loss and help you gain. If you cannot get a straight answer or dx from your dr, then I recommend you go gluten-free on your own. However, until you are certain any celiac tests are all done, do NOT go gluten-free. You have to be eating...

ARCHIVED Just A VentMitziG replied to MitziG's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease Hmmmm. There is a whole foods 3 hours away....long way to go for cheese! I may have to learn to live without!

Yup. Most of us fall off the wagon in the beginning. You don't fail if you don't quit. Start again, it gets easier.

ARCHIVED Cannot Cope Anymore, Physically Or Mentally.MitziG replied to charlotte-hall's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease I am so sorry you are going through that. My daughter is 13 and has similar issues, and like you, major phobia of vomiting, which unfortunately, she does a lot. I would reccomend an elimination diet for now. Stick with very bland things- rice, chicken, fruit and veggies. Avoid dairy 100%. This can allow your gut to heal, and then you can try adding back one...

ARCHIVED Just A VentMitziG replied to MitziG's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease Where do you find that? I am in the middle of nowhere and had to drive 30 min to the "big hyvee" that actually has a Health Market section!

ARCHIVED Biopsy Indicates Beginning Stages... Doc Says NoMitziG replied to PossiblyCeliac?'s topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms Sounds like your dr is not the brightest. Unfortunately, some want to wait until you have a serious problem before they diagnose you! Get all of your labs and pathology reports and let the folks here tell you if you have celiac. The majority of them know more about celiac than the average GI.

ARCHIVED Just A VentMitziG posted a topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease So, since deciding casein was also an issue for me, I decided to get some dairy-free stuff to help me avoid falling off the wagon. Hy vee has a nice selection of "cheese alternatives" in their healthyglutenfreeorganiccrunchynuttyblech aisle. But get this- every single variety of "pretend" cheese contained MILK! Seriously! Who would buy cheese made from rice...

Thank you! What a good friend you are for taking the time to learn about your friend's illness. Many are not so fortunate!

It isn't easy. No way around that. And in the beginning, it is very hard. But you will grow accustomed to it, I promise. Traveling and social situations will never be as simple again, but it is important to maintain perspective. There are much worse things than this. Celiac is an inconvenience, but good health is truly a blessing!

ARCHIVED My Doctor Has My ResultsMitziG replied to Mnicole1981's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms At least that is just a few more days! And you don't have to eat any gluten after Wednesday! sounds like you definitely are at least NCGI so regardless of the biopsy, ditch the gluten permanently!

ARCHIVED Detecting A Casein Problem....MitziG replied to MitziG's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease Hmmmm. Ok. Guess I better go hunting for some dairy free goodies today so I can stick to this. Probably what needs to be done to get over that last little hump....

ARCHIVED Got Celiac From Accutane, Please Help?MitziG replied to King-Danilo92's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease Sorry, but you are stuck with it hon. You had the genetic susceptibility, and accutane apparently turned it on. Your other family members should be tested as well, you inherited the genes from someone. Many celiacs are asymptomatic, and some of your family could have active disease and not know it. As for your age, be grateful you are young. Many of us sufferred...

ARCHIVED My Doctor Has My ResultsMitziG replied to Mnicole1981's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms Definitely get a copy of your labs. You want to verify which tests they did. Often you don't get exactly what you think you did! And regardless of the lab tests, if gluten-free makes you feel better, then you have your answer. You don't need a dr to agree with that!

ARCHIVED Detecting A Casein Problem....MitziG replied to MitziG's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease Hmmm. You make a good point about the hormones. Sugar fiend indeed. Been trying to stop but I am SO addicted to chocolate! Haven't been able to find the enjoy life chocolate around here- some dairy free chocolate would definitely help! I will look for the earth balance though. So...icky question...but...is it normal for SOME stools to float? I mean, I...

ARCHIVED Detecting A Casein Problem....MitziG replied to MitziG's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease Argh. Phone froze so had to post halfway thru. Anyway. I also just had a lipid panel done. Cholesterol good, HDL very high, LDL low. Triglycerides were 42. From what I have read, that indicates malabsorption. So....is it likely dairy is causing continued malapsorption? Cuz I eat way too much sugar and if anyone should have HIGH triglycerides, it is me. ...

ARCHIVED Detecting A Casein Problem....MitziG posted a topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease I just passed the 1 yr gluten-free mark and feel SO much better. Still not as energetic as I would like, but getting there. My question is regarding dairy. I have discovered the major adult acne I am fighting goes away if I am 100% casein free. Like nothing that even says (may contain milk) even a little bit breaks me out. Giving up dairy products was easy...

ARCHIVED I Can Not Believe I Felt Like This And Functioned For Years!MitziG replied to cahill's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease I think the same thing every time I get glutened- wondering how I will survive the next 10 days! And then I remember I survived 30 years that way..... once you start feeling GOOD, it is a difficult thing to go back to! I guess for a lot of us, feeling bad was just "normal"!

I'm sorry. I feel for you. My 13 yo has the same issue at a year gluten free. We have a gluten-free house because 3 of us are celiac, but every couple weeks, she is sick and puking. I have been racking my brains trying to keep her well, and she is scared to even eat because so many "safe" thing, for her, just aren't. I wish I had answers for you!
-
Oh, I forgot- dissolve the ACV in a glass of water. Don't drink it staright!

I am so sorry to hear about your mom, and being miserably sick while grieving just makes things even more miserable. I have found a teaspoon of apple cider vinegar (must be organic, with the mother floating in it- I use Braggs) provides almost instant relief of the cramping and bloating when I get glutened. I know a lot of people use it successfully with...

ARCHIVED FrustratedMitziG replied to teddylab's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms As uninformed as your doc is, it is likely he did not do a full celiac panel on you. So if he tells you it is negative, request a copy of the labwork and post the results here. We will tell you what is missing. Id bet you a dozen gluten free donuts you are celiac.
