    ARCHIVED I Love My Doctor

   Boy do I love my doctor. My daughter (age 25) just had a visit with our doc this week, mostly for follow-up of her annual thyroid testing. DD has a goiter, and is on thyroid meds to prevent growth of the goiter. She was never hypothyroid though TSH was high "normal", and DD tested negative for thyroid antibodies. Still...
  3. Wow. Well, it is good to have that answered definitively! It will be interesting to see if the dietary changes help normalize your daughter's thyroid levels.
  4. Well, without the ranges, it is hard to tell. The second set of numbers, with the unrecognizable names, are tests for antibodies found in Crohn's and other inflammatory bowel diseases. Maybe that's what your doctor meant when he said he saw "something". Open Original Shared Link Perhaps it would be possible for you to contact your doctor's office...
  5. So much of the information was run together it was hard to sort through! I think, correct me if I am wrong, your little one was positive on the IgG TtG test. The rest looked negative. It does not look like they did a total serum IgA, that is the only way to know for sure if your son is IgA deficient. Thankfully you have a doctor who is taking a second...
  6. If Ener-g was the only bread available, I'd go without bread. It's awful, in my opinion. There is another thread, but I can't remember which one, where someone suggested using a bell pepper to hold sandwich fillings. I think they meant to open from the top, but I imagined it sliced lengthwise, kind of like a little boat, and eaten like an open-faced...
  7. I just tried one called "Open Original Shared Link" (not my flickr account, but has a nice pic of the bottle) and it was really good. I can't find that exact one on the Open Original Shared Link, though they have one they call gluten-free. I liked it better than Redbridge. Made in UK, might be hard to find, some Whole Foods markets carry it. Beer snobs...
  8. Other possibilities: If you have been eating gluten for so many years, it is possible that you have developed nutritional deficiencies due to malabsorption in your intestines. If you are low in vitamins and minerals, protein, you will see hair loss. You might also find out about getting your thyroid checked. Thyroid problems are notorious for causing...
  9. Nice to know there is hope, but I just checked and our local Red Robin isn't doing gluten-free buns yet. But they ARE making it easy to know how to order from the menu in order to be safe. So glad awareness is growing!
  10. Sorry to say, to get accurate results testing-wise you need to be eating gluten for a while. As for DH, I think the antibodies linger for a while after you stop eating gluten if it truly is DH...I've heard two or three weeks but I'm not sure on that one. And it needs to be done by a doc who knows what they're doing, some docs mistakenly biopsy the blisters...
  11. Just want to say "welcome"! How wonderful to have such a supportive husband, and how RARE and wonderful to find a doctor who understands and treats reverse T3 issues! Don't have any advice, but wish you the best!
  12. Hi Cindylou7. Welcome! First, get copies of your blood results and see just what the doctor was looking at. If he saw "something" that could indicate a problem, you need to know what that is! If you post your results here, in a new thread, more people can help you. They may not have done a full panel, they may be interpreting "marginal" results as...
  13. Don't punish yourself! You have nothing to feel guilty for. You have been doing the best you could based on what so-called "experts" have told you. Most of us have been brought up to trust doctors, and it takes a lot of hard work to get to a point of understanding things for yourself. Thankfully you've found a great place (here!) to learn from the knowledge...
  14. When I first heard about fecal transplants, I was kind of grossed out too. But then my daughter-in-law got a terrible C-Diff infection, and they could not get her over it. In fact, she was one of those who was made worse by the particular choice of antibiotic generally used. She had to go on the Vancomycin. We gave serious consideration to the transplant...
  15. What Adelaide said. I love the comparison to the 747 in the parking lot. The damage is not always digestive/intestinal. That doesn't change the fact that in a celiac, there IS an active autoimmune response underway, the body IS attacking itself in other places. For some people, celiac is a skin disease, Dermatitis Herpetiformis. For others, celiac...
  16. Yummmmm! What a great idea! I'd never have thought of using a pepper...kind of like "cold stuffed peppers". My family is going to love this, especially the college student who is ALWAYS trying to figure out what "finger food" to take for lunch. My family really misses sandwiches but doesn't want the grain from gluten free bread.
  17. There is the possibility that your daughter is "on the path" to developing something, but the damage has not yet occurred (as another poster mentioned). Doctors don't normally see things in the earliest stages (where it would be best to CATCH things, IMHO). Docs get involved at the point of crisis. She had a positive TtG which is a good test. I agree...
  18. Lyme is no fun. You have a double-barreled challenge going on right now. {{{{{{{{{HUGS}}}}}}}}}
  19. I hope everyone's health improves quickly! I don't use a lot of canned/packaged stuff (though I've been forced to get it for my mom), and I know how hard it must have been for you to buy all that!
  20. YES! The diets are SIBO friendly. Open Original Shared Link Open Original Shared Link If you Google "SCD recipes" you'll find a ton of stuff that will help you eat. My daughter-in-law has been doing SCD for a year now, and is much better. I found an awesome site where a researcher writes about his work with inflammation in general, some...
  21. I was wandering around the Internet the other day, and ran into this site where a scientist is talking about gluten, inflammation, celiac, Hashimoto's, other autoimmune conditions, and I think it well worth taking a look. The scientist is a Ph.D in Cellular and Molecular Biology, the title of his blog is Open Original Shared Link. The tagline on his...
  22. I think the Costco gloves are nitrile. You can mail order them inexpensively as well, if you need large quantities that you can't find locally. CVs.com has them, drugstore.com, and the giant spamming emporium that starts with the letter a has them. You could do an online comparison hunt by searching "where to buy nitrile exam gloves". Open Original Shared...
  23. Yes it is safe for a non-sufferer to eat non-gluten. You just need to make sure the diet is well balanced with good source of protein (lean meats, nuts of not allergic, fish) and plenty of fruits and vegetables. There are also gluten-free grains that can be part of a good diet. With your son's special needs, you might look into the Open Original Shared...
