  1. sounds yummy!
  2. Wow my weight has been strange ever since diagnosis 2 years ago. I used to be 105 pounds and 5'2" - a little underweight maybe. After diagnosis i have been struggling to stay at 111-112 pounds. I can maintain my weight for 4-5 months then all of a sudden I might gain a few pounds and it won't come off. Then after a few months it goes again. I am wondering...
  3. I was wondering the same thing. When i was diagnosed my doctor told me to eat plenty of fruits and vegetables so i took that to heart and basically worried so much about getting enough nutrition in one day that i over ate. I was eating more calories than i ever did and started gaining weight. Then I went back to my normal eating pattern of a banana or apple...
  4. Tinkyada makes a really good rice pasta and the corn pastas out there I think are even closer tasting to the real thing. There are some Glutino snacks that are really good- they make a chocolate wafer cookie that tastes like a kit kat candy bar. As someone mentioned Udi's makes the best bread -my kids can't tell the difference except the slices are smaller...
  5. I was mad when I received my diagnosis too. The thought of changing my whole lifestyle was overwhelming and I tried to cram all my favorite foods in -in the 2 weeks before i decided to officially go gluten free. I grew up in an italian family and thought the days of great pasta dinners were over. A few weeks in to my new gluten-free diet, however, I started...
  6. Nate , I have made my kitchen mostly gluten free .My husband and kids get only one area of the kitchen and one section of counter space. My kids and husband are great about it. I dont allow any frozen foods to be cooked on my pans -they have to use the microwave. I found in the beginning when we shared the whole kitchen i was being contaminated and put a...
  7. Ya know I had the GlutenFreeda (I believe) brand of instant packets in my hand today at the market and chickened out. I thought about it and did not want to chance being in pain on Mothers Day -i will buy them next week. Maybe I will be one of the lucky ones that can tolerate them. I have asked my GI about trying them and he said I am playing with fire but...
  8. No you should not cheat! Even if you have no symptoms you can still be causing damage that can lead you down the road to other autoimmune diseases, related condtions and even cancer. It is just not worth it!
  9. I remember calling the manufacturer of zyrtec a few months ago and a woman there told me it was gluten free. Did I get misinformation? Luckily I have not taken it. At our local Walgreens all Walgreens brand cold and sinus meds as well as aspirins are labeled Gluten Free with little green tags so It makes it so easy I buy them. The are carrying some gluten...
  10. Udi's is the best by far!! I was making my own bread for almost a year until I came across Udi's. It was in the frozen section at my Hannaford grocery store right under my nose and I never knew. It makes a great sandwhich and toasts like real wheat bread.
  11. Wow, that must really upset you. At least your daughter knows enough not to eat food that is not safe for her.
  12. Hi, Thanks and you are right that they have always been somewhat mean and vicious in nature. Celiac or not limiting contact is the right thing to do. Regarding my food with my mother i mean my cookies, breads, pizza crusts and those types of things-she eats the other things you mentioned. I am so lucky to have the most supportive husband and kids -They are...
  13. Hi Everyone, I have been Gluten free for almost 2 years now . My question is how do you deal with very insensitive family members? Since my diagnosis my children , husband and I have been excluded from various family dinners and occasions. I just dont get invited anymore and if I do my father will complain about the few choice restaurants that I can eat...

    ARCHIVED Hair Loss?

Wow I hope all the hair loss gets better as you heal! You may want to check your thyroid out. Abnormal thyroid can cause hair loss too and celiac and thyroid conditions can go hand in hand.
  15. Kraft and General Mills will disclose gluten on their lables. By law companies have to disclose wheat but not gluten. IF you are in doubt always contact the company. Never assume . I have assumed a couple of times and paid for it.
  16. I was diagnosed almost 2 years ago. I am 45. I started with bladder issues {mild I.C. flairups} about 6 years ago . I have had migraines on and off throughout the years but started with severe bloating and stomach pain 2 years prior to diagnosis. My doctor brushed off the symptoms as GERD and kept throwing various antacids at me which made the symptoms...

Wow, that was so rude and insensitive. If they only understood what we go through sometimes. Chances are you would have gotten sick with that kind of attitiude.

    ARCHIVED I'm Scared

You will feel better in time. I remember my first trip to my grocery store after being diagnosed was HORRRIBLE -I was holding back tears. In time though you will find more and more that you can eat. Dining out is still scarey for me sometimes but stick to places that offer a gluten-free menu. To feel safer call or email ahead of time and ask to speak...
  19. Has anyone traveled on Norwegian Cruise Lines? We cancelled a trip we had booked when i was newly diagnosed because I was afraid I would have no food?
  20. Disney is one of the best places a celiac can travel to. We have done it twice since I was diagnosed almost 2 years ago. We get the dining plan . If you plan to eat at the sit down places -When you contact Disney dining to make your reservations you just tell them you are celiac-I think they even ask if anyone has dietary restrictions. They will e mail...
  21. i know in my area -upstate Ny- The Outback serves gluten-free bread and rolls . Yummy. I have eaten there many many times with no problems and I often get garlic mashed potatoes as they are gluten free. I have had great experiences with Unos and PF Changs as well. They really seem to know what they are doing. The Melting Pot has a gluten-free menu but...
  22. i have never tried gluten free oats yet -2 years into going gluten free. I have a bread recipe that calls for oat flour. Should I make sure I can tolerate oats before trying oat flour? Are all oat flours naturally gluten free? If I can toleratae oats is it safe to eat them every day? I used to eat oatmeal every morning- love it!
  23. Hi I am new to this post and was diagnosed with celiac almost 2 years ago now. I thought my family would have been supportive but boy was I wrong. Since my diagnosis I have been excluded from going out to dinner with the family on holidays or occasions because certain family members refuse to go to the few choice resturants I can eat safely at. When I have...
