  1. Please look out for yourself! You're sweet for sticking by your mom, but please take good care of yourself. Gluten sure can be evil.
  2. Hint o lime chips have milk in them. Any chance you're reacting to that?
  3. I Think it depends on who you talk to. Some folks don't know what either means, and some don't think celiac disease is that serious anyway. I'm sure I have celiac, but I have been just saying "I can't eat wheat" and leave it at that. I disagree with the comment that nonceliacs don't need to be monitored for long-term health outcomes, since false negatives...
  4. Oh I didn't mean I was considering eating gluten! I'm done forever. I just don't want to lose my mind before the headaches go away! But oh yes. I'll never knowingly eat gluten ever again. Ever.
  5. 2-4 weeks into it is managable. i'll hang in there, i think, thanks i'm sorry about your stress headaches! those are awful, too. stress isn't as easy to eliminate as gluten. :/
  6. Whoops, I meant to put this in the post-dx category. Sorry, I'm posting mobile. :/
  7. I'm sure I'm getting gluten withdrawal headaches, and I'm about 3 weeks gluten-free, I think. (at least.) they're pretty brutal, and the first lasted 2 days, and then vanished. I've had a few since then, and theyre getting progressively better, but holy heck, I'm already tired of them. I assume there's a detox period, and all that. But how long might it last...
  8. I don't have any facts, but I've Found bc made my skin worse-- it was always dx'd as acne (but never investigated), and doctors always said it was impossible for bc to worsen my skin. Now that I'm sure it's dh (very recent), and it'd make sense if bc can make it worse! I'd given up on bc years ago, but tried it a few months back to try and control my...
  9. Someone here suggested gopicnic mini meals. The hummus and cracker one is delicious! I have done the grad school trip thing as a vegetarian and found it tough. As a gluten-free vegan, I think I'd send an email ahead of time to skip scheduling meals and ask for a different social activity (they're just trying to make sure youve got some social skills...
  10. beans beans beans! also, nuts, but they make my jaw ache. long time vegan, first time gluten-free-er about 3 weeks now. i also feel better with high protein, low carb.
  11. Thanks so much for these replies. They've really helped. I'm reading more about the iodine link, and I'm going to try eliminating it and see what happens. I've actually been dairy-free for a long time and am vegan for health and ethical reasons, so I'm comfortable with the way things are, but think I may be getting iodine in some of my non-dairy milks. That...
  12. I don't think you'll get much help beyond "don't eat gluten" but I really liked Dr Jane Melnick in San Francisco. She's a smart lady and very kind.
  13. I'm 33 and I've had bad skin since I was 8. Technically I had eczema as a little kid, too, but it wasn't as traumatic as the bad acne. My parents weren't much help, so I was on my own. I noticed a link between my dairy intake and my skin but it never felt good or improved much. I've recently noticed my skin worsens after a gluten bender. (I'm gluten-free...
  14. Oh and I forgot to say mine gave me nightmares even though I was sedated. I wouldn't suggest if if you can avoid it. :/
  15. I agree with skylark! While a biopsy/endoscopy isn't the worst test in the world, it's really knd of redundant in this case. Unless you have concerns about diagnosing ulcers or h. pylori.
  16. Ugh. Honestly I think your GP just might not know that a GI is better informed than a rheumatologist when it comes to celiac. (actually I think a car mechanic is better infOrmed about medicine than a rheumatologist, but I'm a bitter angry girl!) If you only want confIrmation of celiac, you might call back and assert yourself by Insisting on a GI doc....
  17. I had problems in my teens with blood sugar swings. I did get a glucose monitor and found my sugar did indeed drop dangerlously low often. I adopted a high protein and fiber low fat vegetarian diet, and felt much better. I still had blood sugar swings but they were controlled by diet and my A1c was normal (I have diabetes in my family, both types) so I didn...
  18. Thank you both so much. I used to work for Big Pharma before I got sick (oh, irony!), and I know full well there's no money in diseases like Celiac, but I didn't make the connection at the time that I could be one of those people. Bummer. Maybe if I go back to work, I can help develop better celiac tests at a university somewhere Oh and...
  19. So I'm glad the biopsy didn't detect any damage, but it would have been nice to have a hard and fast confirmation after years of doctors treating me like a lazy hypochondriac. But I'm done with gluten. I don't even know where to begin with explaining my symptoms, I have so many. I was hoping a negative biopsy would mean I'm not very sensitive, but I think...
  20. Sigh. It's definitely all I think about but I don't feel I'm talking about it much at all, and that actually makes me sad. I'd like to hash this out in a conversation or several, but I'm not feeling particularly supported right now. I appreciate this board.
  21. Have you tried the BG Before Grains food? We use wellness and love it but recently started putting BG in their foraging toys and they love it more than Wellness.
  22. Soy-free earth balance is my favorite for when butter flavor is important. Coconut oil is great for saut
  23. When I worked in a lab, we used bleach to get rid of proteins on benchtops. I plan on doing this in my home, something equal to chlorox wipes (maybe make my own). Doesn't help for fabric/couches, though. :/
  24. Sorry for those typos. I don't have much energy and am online from my phone while resting. Autocorrect has a mind of it's own!
  25. I'm new here, but I've been reading for awhile and not really posted myself. Your experiences and insight have been really helpful to me. I've come to realize that gluten (wheat in general) is bad for me, and it's taken some time to get in to see a GI doc to get a biopsy. I finally saw her on the 15th and she scheduled an endoscopy for July 18. Up till...
