  1. I hope he realizes how lucky he is. I can't imagine how much better college would have been if I'd known. After I made it through college and started my career, I got too sick to work and am now disabled. I wish I'd been lucky enough to figure it out before I lost so much.
  2. My family was worried about "crazy gluten-free food" when I went gluten-free a month or so ago, so I was trying to make their favorite rolls and stuff, and I discovered my skin condition is actually DH, and flared terribly after touching dough. I also had GI symptoms, and the GI & DH trouble happens now if I'm near raw flour or gluten items. Maybe your...
  3. That comment about self-diagnosing was really hurtful and insulting. Doctors have failed to dx me for 30+ years, so I think you put far too much faith in doctors' worth and abilities. This forum has changed my life, and someone coming in, insults blazing, is just laughable. What kind of person does that? Someone with the privileges of a "classic case...
  4. After I get cc'd, I have to eat bland easy food for the next few meals at least because things are SO over sensitive. I hope you feel better soon!
  5. I cut my own veggies too because I'm sensitive to cc in a lot of products I've tried. It's strange to me how sensitive I am-- I get blisters from touching cc surfaces, and my hand goes numb if I kiss anyone who's eaten their stir fry with gluteny soy sauce.... And I'm pretty sure my husband is making my skin break out because of an iodine-containing shampoo...
  6. I had one blood test and a biopsy 2 years later and both were negative. I struggle with what to call myself (and started a thread about it too). The fact is that if gluten makes you sick, you don't need a doctor's permission to stop eating it. Listen to your body, because it knows best. I had a lot of dizziness and fatigue, and it's from anemia (classic...
  7. I am a person of size who was told people of size can't have celiacs... Multiple times. I've lost 30% of my initial stable-forever weight starting when my intestines got real bad, and I couldn't eat. Now that I'm gluten-free, I'm eating 3x (or more) than I've ever eaten, and still losing a little bit. I'm not trying to lose weight and believe diets are likely...
  8. I started getting gray when I was 18! (30s now) This thread is awesome! I hope I get my color back. I have naturally curly hair I've treated very well for years with no luck- it was bone dry, frizzy, unmanageable, and it grew slower than I had to cut it. (it's been shoulder length since age 12.) After a few weeks gluten-free, my curls are amazing! And...
  9. Thanks for the reply! This helps! And ticks me off! Lol. I agree with you, too. There needs to be a value assigned to gluten-free and 10ppm is reasonable. I'm going to submit more comments to the FDA about this. 20ppm isn't right if we're comfortably capable of half that.
  10. If the limit of quantitation is 20ppm in the US and 3ppm in Australia, what testing methods are they using in Australia that are more sensitive? I thought ELIZA was the most sensitive. Or did the law get written without a valid limit of detection?
  11. This made me laugh! It's exactly how I've been looking at trying things!
  12. Wacky plot twist: I had a ton of fibro pain after this incident, so I use a topical NSAID, and then my skin flared worse! I'm on the mend now, but omg what a vicious evil cycle I was in.
  13. Your replies make me feel so normal, after years of being ignored and dismissed. Thank you so much, everyone. For what its worth, J&J never responded to my request about their oat sources, but they sent me a coupon for their products. I guess I can get benadryl while I'm getting pepto. Lol.
  14. I have so much anger, it sometimes feels like it's eating me up inside. I'd love some advice on how to channel it more productively! I started seeing a pain psych to deal with my anger at the medical field. It took them 10 years to take my chronic back pain seriously (it turned out I have a spinal injury!), and now I find out celiac is the reason I've...

    ARCHIVED Inhaling Flour

I can't breathe in flour without a celiac reaction. I also can't touch the stuff without getting glutened, and I get blisters, too. I don't think your job caused it, but it definitely won't help it. are masks and gloves an option?
  16. Reseason! Auto correct Btw: those burnt rice bits are porous and will hold gluten
  17. I vote cast iron replacement. If that happens again you can preseason the pan and never throw one out again.
  18. You know, for a million, I'd do it. Think I could advertise on craigslist and find a willing rich person to offer? I've got some student loans and medical bills...
  19. I've definitely reacted to hot coffee drinks at coffee shops. I'm sure it's cc from the dairy. I typically just get tea nowadays-- I don't react that severely (just phlegmy), but it just kinda grosses me out.
  20. I'm new to gluten-free, but have kept a vegan house for years... Going gluten-free has definitely made things healthier (less meat subs and vegan pastries!) but I've had to think a lot harder about filling foods for my husband. we have a LOT more rice now, plus I've been making larger quantities of everything so he can have seconds or thirds. I've found I...
  21. I was "gluten lite" for a bit (6wks tops) before my biopsy, and had a big gluten bender the weekend before, and my bx was negative. You really have to be gorging yourself on the stuff for positive results sometimes. As far as I'm concerned, your lab results are good enough and forcing you to do the biopsy is just cruel and inhumane.
  22. Oh! And I do know what you mean about the food sitting like a rotten lump in your gut. I was diagnosed with gastroparesis and given Reglan (a drug with plenty of risks), Which helped enough to make me abandon my gluten theories a few years back. Eventually I realized this wasn't a good plan. So it turns out when I eat gluten free, my food doesn't sit in my...
  23. On the subject of gender, men in our culture are typically expected to buck up and suck it up, ignoring symptoms. My husband had terrible allergy and intestinal issues after eating dairy, and never made the connection until We met. He always thought it was normal or just something he had to live with. Now he can see he's having some soy issues too, so we...
  24. Thank you for these suggestions! I havent read The Gluten Effect either. I appreciate the reading material!
  25. My GP is closing her practice this month, and I'm sort of stranded without one now. (So is my partner, who saw the same doc.) she was great, even if she didn't believe I have a gluten problem. She blamed everything on fibromyalgia. So I'd like a chronic pain and illness literate doctor, preferably one who subscribes to a "health at every size" philosophy...
