  1. I get wheezy too. It's always been an asthmatic reaction for me.
  2. Chemically speaking, HFCS is so processed and laboratory-derived that I really believe any gluten from the corn has been obliterated. The manufacturing process uses caustic soda and really harsh chemicals that will destroy proteins like gluten. I dont think anyone should eat the stuff though. I do think cc is very likely in that corn flour at very low...
  3. It was so nice to get a couple pairs of jeans in a size that fit! It's done wonders for my self esteem to have jeans that make my butt look good I Also picked up some cute tshirts, and I haven't had cute shirts that fit well in a long time. I think it's good for us to be so nice to ourselves. Our wheat-based culture isn't real loving towards us...
  4. Thank you for your service!! Best of luck with the biopsies. If they're negative, do consider going gluten-free if you can as soon as you're able. Lots of folks have negative tests but their symptoms still improve on a gluten-free diet. (that's my case.) I hope you find some answers and relief soon! It sure sounds like it could be gluten making you ill...
  5. I think I misread parts of your post so my reply didn't totally make sense. Sorry :/ And the test wasn't for nothing in my opinion, IF eating gluten for the challenge made you feel lousy-- you have confirmation! Your own experience trumps expensive tests.
  6. Did you have relief going gluten-free? The tests don't matter (and for gluten arent very accurate in some cases), but what really matters is if you felt some relief. Don't forget, if you want to quit gluten again, you probably will go through withdrawals again, which includes practically irresistible cravings sometimes. My tests were negative too...
  7. LOL. I guess the law of averages finally caught up with me! Maybe while I have such good luck, I should buy a lottery ticket
  8. Just a quick update... I completely forgot I had an appointment with an asthma and allergy specialist scheduled yesterday, and he brought up DH! I went there to try and get some help managing my asthma, since my GP is now retired and I definitely needed an adjustment (I was taking a milk-containing medicine which was making me worse now that I'm gluten-free...
  9. You look like me! I also thought I had heat rash in New England summers! It's taken 25 years to figure it out. Iodine really causes flares with my DH. Ive only been gluten-free 3 months, but my skin is so much more comfortable (even if it's not 100% clear), that I'm convinced it's DH. NSAIDs also make my skin angrier. So much empathy for you. Welcome...
  10. That's also a good reminder! I know I've read that here-- I think from you! I used to use voltaren gel because years of NSAID abuse (doctors orders), I tore up my stomach. The gel really bothered my skin, and I just thought I was over sensitive, but after I went gluten-free and tried the gel again, I had terrible DH flare. I tried my husband's shampoo...
  11. Not stupid! Not at all!! Feel better soon!
  12. What a jerk dermatologist, btw.
  13. Omg thank you both so much! I actually searched the archives and didnt find any posts, but I know I just wasn't searching the right terms. I heard of psoriasis reacting this way, but not DH. (I have a family member with psoriatic arthritis... I think I know more about psoriasis than DH!) Omg my bras too!!! I've found over the years if I rotate my bras...
  14. I really thought because I was "just" gluten intolerant, I didn't have to be as careful as some folks here, but it turns out I'm one of those super sensitive folks. It's all so very personal and individual. The only difference between celiac and GI is the name. Level of sensitivity isn't dictated by what the "official" diagnosis is. It takes a...
  15. I agree it might be iodine! Usually i react within 12 hours or so but I had a salty restaurant meal where I was reddened by the end of it. And then I realized my red complexion all my life was probably DH. It really blows my mind how little iodine it takes to cause a reaction, but restaurants use lots of salt (and sugar and fat) to make their food tasty....
  16. The other day I burned myself in the kitchen. I had a very minor blistered burn on my fingertip and a not blistered, but exceptionally painful (for no blister!) burn on the inside of my forearm. I drowned both in aloe and cold packs, and after a couple days both were healing fine. My forearm had a red spot, but I was sure it'd be gone in a day or so. Last...
  17. I love happy posts! That's great you've solved the mystery!! This place has been soooo helpful to me too.
  18. That's rotten! I hope now that you are out of the hospital you can recover! (my grandmother always used to say that when she was in the hospital. Now I know all about what she meant!)
  19. Man. People mentioned cinnamon rolls... We moved to California a couple years ago, and soon after, a vegan cinnamon bun joint opened up nearby. They're really delicious... But I was getting sicker and sicker and didn't know about celiac. Once I figured it out, I got some rolls for my gluten "bender" before I went in for an endoscopy... Just being in the store...
  20. Diner French fries! Those suckers must be fried in more gluten than oil, the way I react to em.
  21. I actually worked in a hospital cafeteria before I went to college. My HS diploma let me work as an assistant dietitian (I could counsel everyone but the ones on parenteral nutrition) and supervise the kitchen and its staff (I was responsible for all patient meals in evenings and early on weekends). I took my job very seriously, and learned a LOT, but a lot...
  22. Thanks so much for the brand suggestions! Also my two cents, I've been using Before Grain kibble/dry food and our cats LOVE it (and I don't react). I'm so grateful to have some canned suggestions! I was worried I had no options
  23. I think I need to change cat food. I switched them to a gluten-free kibble, but need a canned suggestion. I've got a couple of picky cats who only eat "chunky" wet food: slices, filets, shreds and the like. They currently get a can of friskies (split three ways) each day. I am dreading the trial and error method of finding out which brands are gluten-free...
  24. Target's brand doesn't contain lactose. Their brand Prilosec does though. I've got to read the labels each time I buy meds... Name brand Allegra cost so much so I've been trying to avoid it when possible. :/
  25. Ugh, it's only been a couple months for me, but I can't go more than 5 days so far. often the reaction is just a tingling hand (and a bit of asthma several hours later), but if I have a couple tingly hand exposures in a day period, I wind up with more severe symptoms. It's been really hard to accept. And I wanted to live in a bubble. I still kind of do....
