  1. Does anyone know the easiest way to search The forum mobile site? The menu in the upper right doesn't have search as an option. Maybe someone has google-Fu and can tell me how to do it via google.com?
  2. I'm in my 30s and just recently figured it out. My tests were negative too, and I've had symptoms since I was a baby (severe asthma). Things got worse and worse till I couldn't hold a job because of the pain and fatigue, and doctors just blamed everything on fibromyalgia and my fatness. Actually, fibro and fatness are symptoms of my gluten-related illness...
  3. I'd like to learn to be productively crabby Yes, my family memers do have disabilities, and I'm just generally a nice girl and offer up something if I'm getting myself something. They'll typically do the same when they're up. There's so much etiquette and socializing around food, that's really the tough part for me- learning how to balance manners...
  4. Pepto bismol, water, and patience. Plus any other drugs for symptoms (pain meds, anxiety meds, etc), and remember it will pass. Be kind to yourself and give your body credit for working so hard despite a glutening! That's how Ive been doing it.
  5. Oh I totally support hiding treats! If I didn't hide the chocolate chips, there'd never be any for when I make cookies!! I feel really bad about hiding stuff but I feel even worse when I have nothing to eat and everyone else has a variety of treats. :/ But yes, anything out in plain view is fair game and too difficult for the average person to resist,...
  6. Are you getting gluten from anywhere non-food? Medicines, cosmetics, old pans or cutting boards? Gluten is insidious and can hide anywhere, for a long time.
  7. Thanks everyone, so much. I actually have been baking a bit. I've been too sick to spend much time in the kitchen, but it's been SO NICE to get some energy back!! I really love fresh gluten-free baked goods! Its nice to be back in the kitchen! I bake when I can, but those chocolate sandwich cookies have been a guilty pleasure in my house for years....
  8. I come from a long line of healthy Jewish eaters, and it feels positively subconscious to offer everyone around me some of my food, no matter what it is. Typically I make/buy enough for everyone (me plus 2 more adults), but now that I'm the only gluten-free one in the house, it breaks my heart every time I offer up one of my precious expensive gluten-free...
  9. I've treated my GERD as a normal thing I get to live with for 15 years now, only recently finding it's gone away with a gluten free diet. I've spent a LOT of money on GERD drugs over the years!! It was so severe I worried about ulcers often, and it'd started making me gag and vomit. I have a bunch of other symptoms, so GERD was the "normal" "easy to treat...
  10. I'm a person of size and have been my whole life. I'm positive my size prevented this diagnosis. All my tests were normal, too. I don't understand why docs are so hardheaded about TRYING a (healthy!) diet, you know? Where's the harm? If you had an endoscopy with biopsies, you can start the diet, since healing can happen quickly once you're gluten free...
  11. Really, the symptom of fatigue is enough to justify an iron test, and one low or borderline result is reason to retest later, so I HOPE docs aren't THAT fearful they throw their common sense out the window with their differential diagnosis, you know? But I do think it's a pOssibility :/
  12. My symptoms were so severe, I had to quit working, but my tests were negative. Being gluten-free is turning my life around, too. I don't want to be the butt of some sadistic doctor's need to confirm common sense with a technologically insufficient test I don't care if it's gluten intolerance or celiac right now, I just want to feel better. I have...
  13. I just posted my recipe before seeing this thread
  14. Technically it's my second attempt, because the first batch was inedible. But I put my science education to work and this batch came out great. These are dairy-free and require no eggs. These are not as flat as crepes, but they're definitely not big and fluffy pancakes. More baking powder (and/or a little apple cider vinegar) would probably help this...
  15. I've only been gluten-free a few weeks. I have a laundry list of gluten-related symptoms. One has bothered me because I can't find any info on it. My right hand tingles (from mid-forearm on down) about 20 minutes after I've eaten something contaminated. My gp thinks I'm imagining it. It's been going on for months, but with all my other symptoms, I just put...
  16. That's my approach so far, But I'm sure others have better advice. I admit I feel like a lab rat in my own life.
  17. This is a really old thread but I thought I'd throw out there that supplements are not well regulated, so what a label says is grass may actually be seeds or whole grains. Even if wheat grass is safe, theres no way to know if that's what's really in there. I'm sure this has been covered elsewhere, though. I just couldn't resist responding.
  18. Just to clarify, some intolerants can't stomach even a crumb of gluten either. But yes, be very diligent!
  19. Gluten an dairy triggers opiod responses in people-- you might be going through withdrawals. If you can resist the urges, the terrible craving may pass. Have gluten-free substitutes (whole foods are great but sometimes I really need a cookie!) think of it like detoxing from heroin, because it's a lot like that. :/
  20. I just stopped eatin gluten 3wks ago or so, and I've also been SO HUNGRY. after a long period of never having much hunger and constant gut pain, this is a huge change! I've started consciously eating more carbs (omg tostitos are a lifesaver) and more protein, because I realized my go-to foods were all fruits. (pre-gluten-free, fruit was the only thing...
  21. Ive had iv iron. It was really helpful, but it was before glutenfreedom, so the iron went right back down a few months later. Ferrous Gluconate is the most stomach-friendly iron form but you'll only absorb it if your intestines are doing well. US pharmacies have larger dose pills behind the counter if you ask for them. Floravit is a good liquid supplement...
  22. I had a negative blood test 2 yrs ago, and was also told I had ibs, attributing it to fibromyalgia and "related motility issues." I started getting worse, plus anemia requiring iv iron, rock bottom vitamin D (that's going down despite supplements), skin troubles worsening, brain fog and other assorted crap. I also have bad GERD and it was suggested I had...
  23. I wonder how many folks with "bad skin" actually have undiagnosed dh, so we might not know how many folks really have dh for a long time (if they ever figure it out). I'm sure my lifelong eczema and "acne" is dh now. No doctor has ever suggested gluten as a trigger, and most blamed me for my own bad skin. How many others are suffering in this same way...
  24. I had a negative blood test 2 years ago, was "disappointed," and now 2 years later I get a negative biopsy and go gluten-free anyway because I went "gluten lite" and some symptoms lessened, and I stopped caring abouttests and just wanted to feel better. And I already feelbetter, and it's only been a few weeks. I'm convinced. Even my skin is clearing up. ...
  25. I think the "out of order" sign is brilliant. And I'd hide the keyboard. Like in a file cabinet or something. If you're in the US, I'd make an argument for a wireless keyboard to make it easier and cite ADA guidelines.
