  1. Would it be possible to collect some reliable information about the fact that the lymphoma rate in Celiacs on a gluten-free diet is about the same for non-celiacs. It is only non-treated celiacs that is at higher risk. Maybe you could convince one company to change their mind. $493.00 a month is just too much to have to pay! God bless, Mariann
  2. Anything stainless steel or glass should be okay, as long as it is washed throughly and a dishwasher is good for this since it generally uses a much higher temp water than we can stand with sink washing. Teflon and plastic utensils will absorb some of the gluten and then release the particles the next time you cook, so those need to be replaced and kept...
  3. Hi rockosmom, I was wondering if you have asked your doctor about it? I also have a lot of itching and scaly scalp. For me it is Psoriasis (and DH), and although I am gluten free and the DH is gone I still have the Psoriasis, but it is not as bad. When I have a gluten accident one fo my first symptoms is DH blisters on my scalp and around the hairline...
  4. This is from the jellybelly.com question and answer page. I included the dairy free ones to for those of us off dairy. I hope this helps.
  5. Cheryl, it doesn't have to be costly, but in a lot of cases it is. If you just go with the basic foods, like meat, fish, poultry, rice, potatoes, fruits and veggies, then the costs don't get too bad. But if you want to make gluten-free treats or buy them pre-made it can get costly. I do buy things like pretzels, cake mix, gluten-free protein bars, etc...
  6. I've heard of people going back on gluten and not experiencing symptoms for more than a year. It can also take some people many years to produce enough damage in their intestines to be accurately diagnosed via biopsy. If you plan on being blood tested, it might take a while for the antibodies being produced in your intestines to leak into your blood stream...
  7. I got this off of an Open Original Shared Link I hope it helps.
  8. Thanks Robin, I'm glad I could help. I spent over two years researching all aspects of celiac disease, the gluten free diet, the testing and all that and I feel like I hardly know much at all. I can understand a little of why doctors are lost when it comes to diagnosing, but the information is out there. I just hope that more and more doctor will...
  9. Hi Paula, I have never tried to add an event to the calendar, but it seems to me that it would have to be cleared with the sites administrator before being added. I would suggest when you get to the disables menu page that says you don't have access to that feature, then click on the "contact site administrator" link and ask what you need to do to add...
  10. Gillian, I hope you do not have RS. Same goes for your husband, Debmidge. Josephine, the reason I ask about the small bowel x-ray is that I had it done (when they were looking for anything wrong with me, other than celiac disease!) and it was apparently normal. But they weren't lloking for celiac disease. My son just had it done, because the Ped....
  11. ENER-G PURE RICE POLISH Ingredients: Rice polish is the meal taken off the brown rice in order to make white rice. I hope this helps. I had never heard of it before your post. I found this listed as a product sold online at Open Original Shared Link God bless, Mariann
  12. Josephine, How do they check for celiac disease damage with the small bowel follow thru? Just curious, since I had this done, and my son just had it done last week. Do they have to look for something specific when doing it? I was under the impression that it does not give a good enough view of the villi. That has to be done with an endoscopy &...
  13. Granger 279, For some people, especially with a lot of gluten consumed in the "accident", the reaction can last that long. I had an accident two weeks ago, and still have occasional pain and headaches. My son is also having daily stomach and headaches since the accident and I know that we are 100% gluten-free right now. I read recently (but can't remember...
  14. I only know a little about the two labs, but I will share my experience with you. I had my blood test done at Quest and was negative. My kids had the same tests done at Quest and they came back positive on IgG only. We got the referral to a pediatric GI and he said that he doesn't like to use regular labs for celiac disease testing. He ONLY trusts Prometheus...

    ARCHIVED Mouth Sores

I'm having a breakout right now. I've had them for about 4 days. I've got 4-5 sores in both the top and bottom, left and right, so eating is awful. I've been using the oragel, but it only helps for a few minutes. I know I had a gluten accident two weeks ago, but would it take more than a week for a breakout to occur after an accident?? I also noticed...
  16. Hi Kelly, Welcome to the board. Celiac is genetic, and I think it would be wise to have your daughters tested. Their behavior and physical problems could be related to celiac disease, but they also might not be. Testing them is a good idea. God bless, Mariann
  17. I hope this isn't an April Fool's Joke. I got this in an e-mail from another Celiac support group. It makes me glad I avoid chili when I do have to eat out! --=| FOOD ALLERGY & ANAPHYLAXIS NETWORK SPECIAL FOOD ALLERGY ALERT NOTICE |=-- WHEAT AND SOY ALLERGY ALERT April 1, 2004 Seneca Foods Corporation is voluntarily recalling approximately...
  18. Add eggs and yeast to that also. Many people have a problem with those. Bob, I'm glad the digestive enzymes are helping. And I do hope that you find relief. An elimination diet might be hard to do, but you might find it was worth it. Good luck. God bless, Mariann
  19. Other than corn flakes, puffed rice and Perky's Nutty Rice (sort of like grapenuts), all the other cereals I have found that are gluten-free, are sweetened, and much more like kid cereals. I think it is because adults are all supposed to try to get more fiber in their diets, so all the adult cereals have wheat and/or oats in them. I am also very frustrated...
  20. I have made real fruit roll-ups in my dehydrator before, but it takes so long and they are gone so fast. With the cost of electricity (and gas for the stove!) I figured it would cost about the same and be easier to buy them. Thanks Kathleen, I'll check out the Treetop site. God bless, Mariann
  21. Hi Tinkerszs, Welcome to the board, and don't worry about rambling (which you did not do! You should see some of my posts, they go on almost forever!!) we all need to talk about our issues. Your son's IgG is pretty high. I am glad they have him scheduled for a biopsy so soon. If the doctors did not tell you (some forget to mention it, others...
  22. Willamina, The list was updated January and the link has changed. Here's the new link: Open Original Shared Link God bless, Mariann
  23. Jojes, You may have to restrict your diet more severely now, but you shouldn't have to do it forever. For many people the other intolerances are caused by the damage from the gluten (or the body being confused and mistaking other foods for gluten). These are supposedly the ones that eventually you might outgrow. Gluten is the only one that is 100% for...
  24. I have that to, and in the past few months of gluten-free diet I didn't really notice it getting all that better (at least in my opinion!). Until I had a bad gluten accident and then it was so much worse that quite a few people asked me what was wrong with me. I just had these huge black circles! It is starting to get better now, but I can't tell you if...
  25. 3boyzmom, I know what you mean. I worry about my daughter's weight, too. She will be 5 in just about two weeks and she is 43 inches tall, but only 35lbs. I am hoping that she grows now that she is gluten-free. Marianne, You said that your son had food allergy testing. Was that the Rast blood test or skin test? Because those won't tell you if he...
