  1. Sage, I was just wondering why she is taking hormones to delay the onset of puberty? I mean, don't stop them if the doctor ordered them, but does she need them? Maybe she would start growing if puberty was allowed to start. Many teens do a lot of growing after puberty. This may be particularly true for you daughter now that she is on a gluten free...
  2. Hi Judy, If you have a wheat allergy, then you shouldn't have any intestinal damage. Only gluten intolerance causes damage. The difference between gluten intolerance/sensitivity and celiac disease is the stage of the damage. Some people never progress to the degree of damage doctors want to see in order to diagnose celiac disease, but it doesn't really...
  3. Your doctor was wrong. The lining of the intestine can heal in as little as three days! So 2 1/2 weeks could certainly cause a false negative. The only tests out there that can show if you have Celiac Disease while on a gluten-free diet that I know of is the tests offered from Open Original Shared Link . And even then it usually can only tell from the...
  4. Yes, it is better, but good luck finding one. Most people who do find a good doctor seem to find them accidentally. Also, keep in mind that the blood tests are not 100% accurate. It is always a good idea to further test for Celiac Disease if the blood tests come back negative or borderline, and the symptoms continue. God bless, Mariann
  5. emsmom, My GI doctor won't consider celiac disease for my diagnosis either, but when I asked her if she could tell me of any other disease that would cause such a bad reaction to gluten, she couldn't answer me. When my biopsy came back neg. she said that we could give up this whole "sprue" idea now, and she is sticking to the diagnosis of IBS. She doesn...
  6. What's lowblaws? Mariann
  7. Cool! I wish I could find some in my town. The only other gluten intolerant person I know personally is my friends husband and he doesn't eat gluten free! He only has dermatitis herpetiformis, and just deals with the rash. I'd hate to see what the inside of his body looks like! Happy Shopping! Mariann
  8. I was just wondering about the Soy Derived Ingredients off that list that Connie posted. Soy doesn't have gluten, so are they adding gluten into the soy ingredients? I'm just wondering, because my lipstick has TOCOPHERYL ACETATE , and that is the only questionable ingredient from this list. I am just wondering, since I will need a new tube soon, and I...
  9. Lori, I would be happy to. I also have three children and my symptoms were similar to yours. You can either email me directly (usinf the email link below) or post more specific questions here. There is just too much info to just jump in without a starting point. Hope to here from you soon. God bless, Mariann
  10. The same thing happened to all three of my children in regards to the testing. They all tested positive on the IgG gliadin antibody tests and not the other tests that are more specific to Celiac. Fortunately they were being seen by a Physicians Assistant who didn't know much about the testing, so when he called to give me the test results he asked if I...
  11. My suggestion to you is to not go gluten free until after you see the specialist in July. I know it is a long way to wait, but you could mess up your test results by going gluten free before the tests, even if it is only for a short time. I spent two years fighting for a biopsy, once I knew that gluten was most likely my problem, and I finally gave up and...
  12. I just wish they were casein free! I had to give up coffee, since I only liked it with the flavored creamers. It says non-dairy creamer, but it is not diary-free! Oh well, coffee isn't really good for you anyhow, and it has been four months since my last cup! I now drink herbal tea, and carry my own bags with me in my purse, so I know it is gluten-free...
  13. If it is citric acid made in the US it is safe. Almost all products made in the US, use citric acid made in the US. It is when traveling, or buying foreign products that you need to be careful. But if you are someone who is very sensitive, it might be a good idea to call the company to verify their source is American. Mariann
  14. Also, if your posting is a fairly new one, it has probably not been pinned. This means it is on the very last page in that forum. A pinned topic, means a moderator has pinned it into that forum, because it is in the correct forum. It can not be moved out of that forum. Moderators have the option of moving any postings that are not in the correct forum...
  15. Hi Azza, I just checked and your posts are still there. They are in the forum for Gluten Free Foods, Products, Shopping and Medications. If you have trouble find one of your specific posts, since there are multiple pages in some of the more popular forums, the quickest way to check your own is to click on your user name on any of your posts, and it...
  16. Pardon my ignorance, but what is gluten ataxia? What are the diefferences between it and regular celiac? Mariann
  17. VA Guy, First off, I have had problems with the gluten-free breads, too. I am not sure if it is the guar gum or the yeast. I am going to try a yeast free recipe soon, and I have switched to using xanthan gum. I'll let you know how that goes. As for the pizza, if you end up being casein intolerant, then I can't help you with the cheese. I...
  18. EmilyP2004, Thank you for all of your recommendations, but unfortunately most of them won't help me. I am allergic to soy, so all of the soy products are out, unless I want to live drugged out on benadryl everyday, and risk pushing my allergy to anaphalactic reactions. As for the yogurt, cheese, etc., I am also casein intolerant, so any type of dairy...
  19. The anti-endomysial antibody test is the test that was used most commonly, before the tissue transglutaminase test was made. Some doctors do both, others do one or the other, and some don't do either. There is not set standard for how to test for Celiac, and that is part of the problem. The tissue transglutaminase test is supposed to be more accurate,...
  20. My biopsy came back negative. I made myself sick for two months preparing for it, and according to my doctor it is "totally clear". I don't really trust her. She admitted before that she only consciders it celiac disease if the villi are completely damaged. The biopsy is not the best test, and certainly not accurate enough to be conscidered the "gold...
  21. If your significant other rinses with mouthwash, or brushes their teeth, then it should be fine. And Chapstick is gluten-free. Mariann
  22. Mario, I have no idea. It is wise to check the labels of everything anyhow, since companies often change their formulas without notice. I hope it helps. God bless, Mariann
  23. I've checked out the lists from the www.glutenfreeinfo.com link, and I'm concerned that the lists are so old. A lot of that information may be inaccurate. Another good link to a more current list is Open Original Shared Link . Mario, You can print out the list from the above link, but it is 34 pages long. There are too many foods to list on this...
  24. Hi Everyone, Happy Valentine's Day! I went to the healthfood store yesterday and purchased some enzymes. I ended up getting two kinds: Pioneer brand Digestive Enzymes and Herbs, and Garden of Life Omega Zyme. The first is in capsule form and the second is a powder, and twice the potency of the first, and includes a few more different enzymes...
  25. smack, Yes there is a test you can order yourself. You can order the Secretor Test through Open Original Shared Link and two years ago it was around $40. I'm going to be getting some digetive enzymes tomorrow. I sure hope they help. I've been learning a lot about them, and I really think this may have been my problem with many of my ailments. Gluten...
