  1. Great blog! This is such a ridiculous grab at the money to be made from people following the "fad" aspects of a gluten-free life. I thank you for your decision to not allow Dominos to advertise here.
  2. I'm on it. I was already pretty low sodium, but not low enough. Yesterday I managed to eat less than 500 grams.
  3. Thanks so much for your reply. Yes, I have terrible bouts of vertigo, and that coupled with the other symptoms (ear pain, pressure, tinnitus and hearing loss) is what led to the Meniere's diagnosis. My doctor diagnosed me officially a week or so ago. My symptoms did not improve on the gluten-free diet. I've been 100% gluten-free for over a year and a...
  4. I'm sorry. Yeah, that happened to me too. I had a friend tell me that going gluten-free was no big deal and that she "gave up stuff for Lent all the time". Ummmmm, not the same thing. Not. At. All. On top of that she mocked me and called me "lame" for not wanting to attend her Cookie Party (!) which would, of course, not contain any gluten-free cookies...
  5. I don't see a regular doc. I see a holistic DO who doesn't just do regular work ups. She likes to see the whole picture and is therefore, very thorough. I am very lucky to have found her. And yes, she did do thryoid checks too. edited to add: My ear doc is different than my DO. My DO referred me to the ear guy when she couldn't figure out what was...
  6. Thanks for the links! I'll be sure to check them out. I had a full work-up recently, no vitamin deficiencies at all. And I've never used Prilosec so that isn't an issue either. My doc is convinced it's Meniere's but he wants me to go for a second opinion and hopefully prove him wrong.
  7. You sound just like me. Though, for the last year I kept thinking I had ear infections and would go to the doctor and she couldn't see anything. That led me to the specialists which led me to Meniere's. Do you remember where you saw those studies on Celiac and inner ear problems? I'd love to read them. I just came from my ear doc and he is pretty convinced...
  8. ElitaSue, do you have any ear issues? Pressure, pain, etc?
  9. What I meant was that it doesn't just say "gluten" on the ingredients. Someone who isn't practiced would have no idea where gluten hides and just looks for the words "wheat" or "gluten". "Well I don't see any gluten on here". Of course you don't, it's hiding in the malt extract, etc.
  10. I don't think the store is abusing anything. She did read the ingredients on the label, and she let me look at them, but as we all know, the gluten is hidden in the stuff you can't see. What she legally couldn't do, without getting my license, and selling me the drug, was to let me walk away from the counter with the meds. I couldn't stand at the counter...
  11. Yup. Exactly!
  12. This was actually for a non-prescription medicine. But in California they keep these particular allergy meds behind the pharmacy counter. If she had handed it to me she would have been breaking the law. I think it's a silly law, but what can you do? The AG would be on her side because she was following the letter of the law.
  13. I just went through this last week. My oldest needed a script and I needed to get to the Clartin behind the pharmacy counter, which where I live, is under lock and key due to people making meth out of it. I had never bought this specific type of Claritin and needed to know if it was gluten-free. The pharmacist shrugged her shoulders, looked at the ingredients...
  14. SKylark, this is GREAT! Really helpful. I've never thought of it that way before.

    ARCHIVED Juicing

I love juicing! I think it's an amazing way to get fruits and veggies into our systems. I'm about to make a big green juice for lunch. Super yummy!!!
  16. I don't think you're overreacting at all. And I haven't met a Gastro yet who knew what the hell they were doing. My GP is better than any other doctor I've seen. I'm very thankful to have her.
  17. Back when we used to eat out a lot (pre-celiac diagnoses) people would stop and gawk at my two boys, happily munching on loads of vegetables and salad. I have heard the question "How do you get them to eat that?" about 100 times. My answer is "I don't give them any alternatives." It sounds overly simple, but it's true. I gave in too much when they were...
  18. That's really great! I'm glad to hear that it is working for someone. Going gluten-free (it's been a year and a half for me) has done wonders for me in other areas, but my period has still not returned. I've only had it 3 times in the last 2 years. I think it may finally be time to admit that celiac disease made me hit menopause VERY early.
  19. I haven't found anything about this online so I thought I'd check with the experts here. Has anyone heard of a connection between Meniere's Disease and Celiac Disease? Thanks!
  20. I had a similar situation happen awhile ago. I posted an article about celiac disease to my facebook page and a friend wrote back questioning why so many people seemed to have the "disease of the day" now. At first I took great offense to her comment, but after thinking about it I decided it's actually a legitimate question and went in search of the answer...
  21. When I took my youngest son to a pediatric gastro who specializes in celiac disease, I expected a level of care and concern that I REALLY did not get. I was referred to him by my regular doc who, after positive blood work and positive genetic tests, thought a visit to him could be helpful. I go in with my then 4 year old son and was lectured for over TWO...
  22. Congratulations! It's inspiring to hear that you are doing so well now. Thanks for sharing!!!
  23. Ok, I have to ask. What is the little measuring cup for? Do I want to know? And YAY for you!!! I have taken a few trips to Europe, but haven't ventured to Asia just yet. I'm working up to it. I'm freaked to go anywhere where I REALLY don't speak the language. Before we went to Italy last year I made sure I had the phrase "My sons and I have celiac...
  24. I love that you were able to "bake" yourself happy!
  25. I had a friend (whom I'm thinking may not be such a good friend after all) tell me recently that celiac disease was "no big deal". She then proceeded to tell me how "it isn't hard to give up stuff. I give up my favorite foods for Lent all the time"! Yeah...sure. That's the same thing.
