Hey there!!! I just wanted to say...the symptoms are so similar to celiac disease that it could be!! Eat your gluten, feel like crap and get your test!! It completely stinks that we have to eat gluten to get the diagnosis! However, you would then KNOW it is in your family and you can watch out for EVERYONE else!! That is what mom's do best! Take...

I have been having VERY strange dreams lately!! I had a dream last night that I ate a BLT on White toast. It was my 9yr old son who pointed out to me that I was eating BREAD! (I have great kids that know what I can't eat!) So... I asked for something different. In my dream, I didn't get sick! I must have been wishing that it would have been true! BLTs...

Okay... I know there has been a lot of talk about different gluten-free beers being off the market. I have a new one for you.... New Grist Beer from Lakefront Brewery in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. I am not sure where this is available. I live in the Milwaukee area and bought it at a liquor store today. They just started carrying the beer and are almost...

Corn starch is fine unless you have a corn allergy. Maltodextrin is safe if it is in the U.S. At least that is what I live by and have had no reactions. -

ARCHIVED Blood Test Or Gluten Free Diet To Test?
jams replied to aberglund's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I had both of my kids tested. My daughter was 3 at the time and my son 7. It is a quick blood draw. She may cry a bit but it will be quick. They had to dig in my daughters arm with a butterfly needle because she was so small at the time. She cried for about 10 minutes but it was worth having the results. She will probably need blood drawn for the thyroid... -
ARCHIVED Oat In Undereye Cream
jams replied to mandigirl1's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I think it is more of a personal choice for you to use the eye cream. Gluten cannot enter your body through your skin. You just need to be sure that you wash your hands good after you apply the cream. As far as oats in general.... I cannot really answer there. I have read that Quaker oats are bad because of cross contamination. I think it is just some... -

Hi and Welcome! We are pretty close. I am from Dousman. Just curious who diagnosed you and what office they are from. Dr. Medhi from Medical Associates diagnosed me from an EGD scope looking for ulcers. I am just curious where other people from Waukesha County are getting a dx. Thanks! -

Just read the ingredients. I was going to eat some today that had Barley Gluten in them. You just never know where it will show up. -
I have an appt Oct 4 with the gyno. I talked with my internal medicine dr and he thought it sounds like endo of the bowel. There are times (all the time during my period) that I stand on my tip toes and crunch into a ball. It takes everything out of me to get to the bathroom and endure more pain. My kids were scared at first. Now I just tell them my...

gluten-free too. -
Just be carefull at The Grand Floridian. We did a character dinner there with Cinderella and Prince Charming. They had NO IDEA what they were talking about! After arguing with them that I couldn't have cream sauce that was thickened with flour, they offered me plain pasta with marinara sauce. The pasta wasn't done. I ordered a plain piece of salmon that...

I break out a lot when I eat gluten. They get pretty yucky. I went to the dr before celiacs and they said it was rosatia (spelling.. sorry!). My nails were also very brittle. Now, gluten-free, I have a clear face (except for when I oops) and my nails are hard to cut even with a clippers! I tried to bite them this past weekend at my son's soccer...

ARCHIVED I'm The Only One :(

Am I understanding it right that BOTH, mother and father must have the gene? I think mine is from my dad's side. My mom was tested but was negative. I am not sure what they tested either. I am having detailed test results sent to me from my last test. They just said it was "normal". I am not sure what they all test for where we go to the doctor. We... -
ARCHIVED Silly Yak Bakery

I just want to share my AWESOME experience... Yesterday we were in Madison, Wisconsin for a soccer tournament. There is a bakery there that does a "gluten free bake" on Sundays from 10-2. They also provide a "try before you buy" concept. I was a little nervous about trying their products with them standing right in front of me. I am not a good... -
I was at Walgreens today picking up my pictures. My 4yr old daughter spotted the carmels by the Halloween candy. I was very sad because I thought I couldn't have them. I then noticed that they are made by Kraft (so nothing will be hidden). I read the ingredients and they seem to be fine!! I am so excited to open them all and melt them. I then...

ARCHIVED Flu Vaccine
jams replied to cowgirl's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Thanks for your opinion! I just didn't know if it is recommended for Celiacs. I was just at the doctor yesterday and didn't think to ask about that. Just thought I'd check to see what other Celiacs think about it. -
ARCHIVED Flu Vaccine
jams replied to cowgirl's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Just wondering....Should I get a flu shot with having Celiacs? I've never gotten one before. I am just not sure if it is something I should be thinking about. Thanks! -
I used to have a "family tree" of all grains. It showed what family that wheat, rye and barley gluten was in. I have a gal at work who is insistant that I can eat Spelt. She knows nothing about Celiacs. She is trying to learn but is a little on the stubborn side. If I could find a family tree to show her it may help. I am so mad at myself that I...

I got my Celiac update from google just now. This was in there. Just thought I'd share... Wheat-free roux update I got lots of mail regarding alternate sauce-thickening methods for the gluten-intolerant. Bev Lieven of Milwaukee passed along a recommendation from the Milwaukee Celiac-Sprue Crew, a support group for people who can't digest gluten...
