ARCHIVED Looking For A Pizza Sauce
jams replied to DavidB's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I use whatever spag. sauce I have handy. It works!! -
You made my day!! I am from Wisconsin where we are the home of Summerfest!! Gyros are one of the best things to eat there!! I can't drink beer or wine coolers there anymore. They did just start with the martini bar though! I am SOOOOO excited that Gyros SHOULD be okay though!! Thank you!!
-
I've always wondered about Gyros. I know I can't have the pita, but does anyone know if the meat is safe? It is so hard to try to communicate with those that don't speak English well.

ARCHIVED Mcdonald's French Fries Not Safe?
jams replied to pixiegirl's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
How true is this!!?? Thank you for your post!! -
I love the idea! To be quite honest, it is too pricey for us. We just did a 7 night Western Caribbean for $3400 including airfare for 4 of us. We went the end of January and there were tons of good deals. Also, April is a bad month for us. Soccer is back in session then. Good luck to all of you and enjoy! It sounds like it would be a lot of fun....

ARCHIVED Mexican Food Gluten Free?
jams replied to HalfBlindJ's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I am not going to recommend anyone to eat mexican. I, however, do eat authentic mexican. I work at a restaurant with a mexican staff. They have said that at authentic restaurants they don't use the commericalized packets of seasoning that contain wheat. They use "real" seasonings. Also, they do not know of anyone using soy sauce. Not to say they do... -
I'd be interested. 2008 would be better for me as well. I have never done a poll, but maybe you should do a poll on this site. How awesome that a company would sponser something like this!!?? If one would do it, I am sure more would too! Thanks for checking into it!!

I would also add that aside from the gluten-free thing, I am not sure if I like R.C. cruises much. There are lots of hidden prices on things, where very little on board is actually covered. Drinks (including soda) are very expensive (but they do allow you to bring you own wine, though they charge you $ to open it). Many of their groups workouts are not...

I was just recently on a Royal Carribean cruise. We went last minute. They told me that they need 6 weeks advance notice before they can accomodate a gluten free diet. I did okay with 3 days notice. I just stuck to the basics. If you give them enough notice, they can make anything gluten free for you. Good Luck and Congratulations!!

I get a twitch in my left temple. It comes when I have been glutened or when I am stressed. It is very obnoxious though!!

There is a lot of good discussion on this topic if you search for beer in the assistant part of the control panel. I found New Grist to be the best. Good luck!

I totally agree about a little bit of gluten causing problems!! We just got back from a cruise where I endulged in some gluten (on accident!!). I can't remember what I walked into the room for half the time!! This morning I opened the cabinet for the coffee and forgot what I was doing. I shut the door and went to look for my cup of coffee that I hadn...

That sounds encouraging!! I am leaving today and sailing tomorrow on Royal Carribean. We are going to The private beach in Haiti, Ocho Riaos, Cayman Islands, and Cozumel. I am SO excited!! I am bringing a few snacks to take with when we go to the islands. I'll let you know how it went when we get back!!

ARCHIVED New Grist
jams replied to jams's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Just thought I'd share this article. It was in the Milwaukee Journal. It is "the" newspaper in the Milwaukee area. Lakefront Brewery Inc., a Milwaukee craft brewer, has launched a new beer that is aimed at people with an illness that leaves them unable to tolerate gluten, a protein found in wheat and other grains. New Grist Beer will be targeted to... -

jams replied to jams's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I am not sure how you can get it. I went to their website... lakefrontbrewery.com. There was a place to contact the brewery. They answered in just a few days. Good Luck! -

ARCHIVED What's Forbidden In Chicken Broth?
jams replied to terriH's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Ask, Ask, Ask!!! I work at a nice restaraunt. I had been eating the risotto there thinking it was safe. A few times after I hadn't felt good, I found out they add chicken stock to the risotto when they cook it. I then looked at the chicken stock and there is wheat in there. This is a place that I work at!! They know how sick I can get from anything... -
This is gluten-free? When I called about it they told me it was not gluten-free. I loved to used the soup mix in roasts in the crock pot!!

ARCHIVED Question About Kraft Labeling
jams replied to a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Does anyone know when Kraft started labeling their products? I was looking at a BBQ sauce. It was the Honey flavor. It had malosses (sp?sorry!) But I was a little weary about that. Any insight? I want to make bacon wrapped waterchestnuts or watercrests... whatever they are, for New Years. -

jams replied to laurelfla's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications

ARCHIVED About Blood Tests
jams replied to CMCM's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I just had my kids to the dr yesterday. He ordered the Celiac Panel which is what you just described (IGA, TTG, ect). He was going to order the HLA test to see if they have the genes for celiac. I opted out because I am not sure that my insurance company would cover the gene test. I just did the regular one for now. If they are neg this time, I will... -
ARCHIVED Peds Celiac Training
jams replied to jams's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I will be seeing him tomorrow. I will ask if that is okay. Or I will ask him who did the speaking. I don't just want to give the info out without permission. I will either pm you tomorrow or pm me in case I forget. Our appt is at 10:30cst. I am VERY forgetful! I like to blame celiacs for that, I just don't know if that is the right thing to blame!... -
I am not sure if I am posting this in the right area. Here I go though... I took my daughter to the dr for her 5yr check today. I also have a 9yr old son. I said that I wanted to test them again for celiacs as it has been 2yrs since they were tested. Much to my surprise... He said, "I am on board with that!". I was a little startled as that...

I also have that. I was told that it is psyriosis (spelling.. sorry!). My nails actually peel away from the beds now. They said to not keep them covered, but I do because they are NOT pretty!!
