  1. I used to get really mad at my old roommate when she would eat my gluten free food. I think this mostly made me mad because she rarely if ever made food that I could eat. So her eating my food did not make me a happy roommate.I eventually started cooking when she wasn't around just so that she wouldn't eat any of what I had made, or contaminate it. I also...
  2. Just so you know getting DNR tattooed on your body does not make it necessarily make it legal. My brother's friend had it tattooed across his chest however never went through the legal process to actually get a DNR. So his tattoo was nothing to the doctors when he needed to be resuscitated. His family at first chose to keep him alive. In regards to the...
  3. i miss thanksgiving foods, I know I could probably make all the food gluten free but getting my family behind that wouldn't go over that well and I'm not making all that food for myself.
  4. I know that when I can get my own place I will definitely have a gluten free kitchen. I can, for the most part, trace all but two of my glutenings in the past year and a half to CC from other people in the kitchen.
  5. I know you said you tried the off the shelf ones but have you tried the ones from Target. I have ones that is actually for teen girls but I really liked it. I tried a couple of different expensive ones and didn't like anything of them but I the target ones are great
  6. Most gluten free mixes don't say anything about changing for high altitude but I'm just wondering if there is something I would need to change when I bake? I made a cake recently from a pamela's mix and it didn't rise very much.
  7. Thanks glad to know I'm not crazy. I've been gluten free for a little over a year and a half and i still have side pain. My GI told me it would eventually go away but it hasn't and gets worse after I eat fatty foods especially red meat. Since I live in a new area it maybe time to find a new doc and see if I can have my gall bladder taken out!
  8. oh my gosh! I've been concerned about my hair falling out too. I even cut it pretty short so that I wouldn't have to watch it fall out anymore. I never thought my shampoo could be contributing. Now I feel dumb for not thinking about this.
  9. Before I got diagnosed with celiacs I went through a bunch of tests to check my gall bladder. At the time I was told nothing is wrong with it though. However, I was looking through some of my medical records and once of the print out's says that my test results showed signs of gall bladder disease. I'm just wondering if anyone else had issues with their gall...
  10. I read somewhere that flour can stay in the air for up to 72 hours so maybe because your roommate is baking a lot there is flour in the air. I'm pretty sure that is how I've been glutened a couple of times
  11. I would love to run a gluten free restaurant. Maybe a little cafe/bakery although it would be nice to have a one with food like friend chicken, pizza, pasta dishes.

    ARCHIVED Nausea!

It took a few months for my nausea to go away. Drinking mint tea helped a little to calm my stomach down right after I started gluten free
  13. If I know I'm going to someone's house for dinner I try to call ahead and find out what they are making. If it's something that isn't going to work for me I try to bring something similar that I can eat. Usually, when I get there I stay in the kitchen so I can monitor the food prep. Sometimes I can tell it's slightly annoying to people that I watch what they...
  14. I think my illness contributed to my divorce. I was sick for most of my two year marriage and wasn't diagnosed with celiacs until after we had separated but I still think my ex couldn't handle that I was sick all the time and I really couldn't either. Now it is harder to date because I have celiacs. I've dated a couple people who have tried to be really supportive...
  15. Your body could have been still healing. I know a year and a half is a long time but I've also been off gluten for a year and a half and all my symptoms are not gone. You could have developed another allergy as well. I would go to doctor and see if you could get a allergy test.
  16. It could be a problem if she has gluten sensitivities. I know I can't even walk into certain restaurants or bakeries because they make me sick. But there could be a number of things in the drywall that could be making her sick. But she should get acid reflux checked out because that can cause some damage if not treated
  17. I think even the tiniest amount could make you sick let alone eating three cookies. I haven't purposely eaten something with gluten in it since diagnosis but the times where my food has been cross contaminated have ranged from horrible to only slightly sick. So I really think it depends on each person. But I know I can't even walk into certain restaurants...
  18. I love finding new gluten free things especially at a normal grocery store. Although, I still have to be careful about that because a couple of times grocery stores I've been to put their gluten free products next to the organic products and I have grabbed those instead of the gluten free ones. But it does seem that more and more grocery stores are carrying...
  19. I think it is good that you are sad about this. Don't get me wrong with this, I need to explain first. When I was first diagnosed I tried to just take it in stride. I immediately went gluten free and tried very hard not to look back. I didn't let myself get sad about it, I didn't let myself feel pity and I went on like this for a few months. However, one...
  20. I know this is easier said than done but you need to find some new people to be around. I have issues with people not understanding my celiacs too but if any anyone tried to purposely put gluten in my food I would probably cut them out of my life. That sounds harsh but taking care of yourself is important and if your friends can't deal with that than they...
  21. I'm not sure about but you could have gotten gluten. Since being gluten free I react badly to most alcohols except rum. I'm not a big drinker in the first place but the first time I drank vodka after going gluten free I was sick with in a couple minutes. I've also noticed that a lot of time store brands of things will have gluten in them whereas the name...
  22. Before I was diagnosed I had a lot of water retention which made not only my face puffy but my hands, stomach and feet swollen too. However, most of that went away within the first week of being gluten free. But usually if I get some gluten on accident the next day my face is slightly puffy. Working out has helped me a lot too, although it was really difficult...
  23. Well I had been seeing my GI for over a year and I had gone through every test he had except Celiacs. He even told me he didn't think I had it but because he had nothing else he was going to try testing me for it before he sent me to another specialist. So I got the blood test and his nurse called to tell me it was positive and I would need another endoscopy...
  24. Hi, I'm new to the forum and this is embarrassing for me to ask about but I am wondering if other people have had problems with dating because of having Celiacs? I found out I had Celiacs about a year and a half ago at the time I was going through a divorce. I think my illness contributed to the divorce. I never thought I would have to date again but...
