ARCHIVED My Son Wants To Go To A Movie This Weekend
Kjas replied to lichjen's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I always buy beforehand and bring stuff in with me, it's safer and way cheaper. If they ask, I tell them I have celiac disease and therefore I need to know my food is safe. Nobody has ever argued, especially if you call beforehand and let them know and get the manger to okay it. -
ARCHIVED Do You Make People Wash Their Hands?
Kjas replied to Irishgirl76's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I think if you have kids coming over to play with toys, then yes. If the kids have gluteny hands, hands going all over toys, then after they leave if your kids touch the toys, and put their fingers in their mouth, or worse, they put some part of the toys in their mouth (well let's just say I can see it happening now). It depends on their ages but if you... -
ARCHIVED Cinnamon To Treat Stomach Problems?
Kjas replied to desperateforhealth's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Apart from what everyone else has already added, have you tried ginger tea? It's good for stomach pain or nausea. It's a good way to stop the symptoms short term, but it I were you, I would be trying to get to the bottom of why it's that way in the first place. -
ARCHIVED Anyone Else Lose All The Friends?
Kjas replied to rgarton's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Another one here. I lost most of my so called "friends" when I got sick. The only ones who have stayed are a couple of very old friends. It wasn't just my friends that left. My boyfriend did too. He couldn't accept my illness (even though his brother and step father have the same thing) and he kept making me sick and then blaming me for being sick. The... -
Wow this sounds familiar. You sound like me a couple of months ago. The only difference seems to be that I react to different food than you. I also react to things in most meat and dairy products. I had to go to pasture fed and organic meat, poultry and dairy produce and wild seafood or game. It cleared up a number of issues for me. It is very expensive...

ARCHIVED I Plan On Opening A Gluten Free Restaurant
Kjas replied to NewGlutenFreeChef's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
I think what I miss most when I walk into a restaurant, is like the other said a lack of options. What options they have are usually bad, and like the others pointed out since I can't have soy, dairy or potato what little they could offer is also gone as an option, effectively leaving nothing. I have one brilliant restaurant I go to where they do gluten... -
diandliam, I am a psychologist which is what made that statement so ironic. I would know if I had an eating disorder because I work with these girls and the occasional boy everyday because they have eating disorders. The test came up with that I do not have an eating disorder along in the past I have had periods of disordered eating, mainly due to the...

ARCHIVED Professional In The Food Industry With Celiacs?
Kjas replied to pbgolfer1's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I used to work in the food industry and I had to quit. I fell back on my major and found a job relevant to that though I still love to cook. Chances are good that you are going to get glutened at work, particularly since they make bread. It's up to you, but I would be looking for another job in a gluten free restaurant or perhaps somewhere where flour... -
My favourite one: After me convincing my old doctor to spring me out of hospital as long as he took full responsibility for my care the conversion goes like this: Doc: When they sent me the note they said you needed to get a psych test to see if you have an eating disorder. Me: What the hell? Doc: Apparently you refused to eat a lot of the food...

ARCHIVED 3 Weeks gluten-free - Have Lost Appetite, Food Not Appealing
Kjas replied to zeeclass6's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I had a phase like this a while after being gluten free for 1 month. It lasted for a month and a half. I think it was withdrawal because I really really really wanted garlic bread but didn't realise it until my family made some and the smell drove me crazy. Then I had a phase of being constantly hungry no matter what or how much or how often I ate. I could... -
ARCHIVED Learning Another Language?
Kjas replied to Newtoitall's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
I was brought up travelling so I'm multi lingual. English was the last language I learned although I still screw it up fairly often due to having bad influences at school (too much slang). All I can say is that if you're setting out to learn a new language, listening to it helps the most to begin with. Listen to it as much as you can and you will start... -
ARCHIVED Gluten-Free Carbs/grains
Kjas replied to maridadi's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
"I have a friend who lost 150 lb by eating the foods her grandmother used to farm in the Ukrane. She thinks that we need to eat a diet that matches our genetics or things go badly. Everyone gains weight in America because the food here is so heavily refined and mixed up from all over the world. There is no "One Right Thing" because we're all different. Don... -
I would come straight out and ask him if peoples perception of him and you matter to him more than your health does. If he says that peoples perceptions are more important, I would leave. If he truly believes that peoples perceptions are more important that your health, then why on earth would you want to stay with a man who is willing to make you sick...

I've been in your situation and I know how frustrating it gets. I did GAPS (so basically lots of soup) for 3 months along with probiotics, digestive enzymes, L-Glutamine, a good multi, a greens drink and colostrum. I've come off that recently and I can now eat most whole foods (I mainly eat paleo now) without any pain or issues. I still eat soup at...

ARCHIVED Gluten-Free Carbs/grains
Kjas replied to maridadi's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Paleo may or may not be for you. Have you done a nutritional type test? Aside from that, it sounds like you are trying to do paleo but that your diet is not well balanced. From what you've posted, it sounds like you need to eat better balanced meals and either bigger meals or more often. If you're feeling weak and after eating chex you feel better, I would... -
ARCHIVED New And With Questions..
Kjas replied to Bekka's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
It certainly sounds like you are gluten intolerant or have celiac disease. Raynaud's alone is inherently linked to the autoimmune system, so at a guess and along with you other symptoms I would say it's likely. Celiac disease and gluten intolerance aren't really separate things per say, its more of a spectrum. At the moment, we really don't know all there... -
There could be multiple reasons for this. Options include: 1) She could still be getting glutened. Some of us are more sensitive than others, if she is a super sensitive, you will have to be more careful. Possible sources include but are not limited to: pets (if they eat gluten and llck themselves), shampoo, conditioner, skincare, make up, soap, products...

ARCHIVED Just Been Diagnosed - Questions, Comments And Thanks
Kjas replied to calico-drive's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Digestive issues, extreme fatigue, mental fog worsening dramatically over past few months, terrible short term memory, trouble concentrating, sores that take forever to heal, flaky skin, night sweats, general high body heat, anxiety, sinus issues, seasonal allergies, irritability, sensitivity to 'loud' noises that no one else thinks are all that loud, dry... -
ARCHIVED What The Heck Do I Do Now?
Kjas replied to upwitht21's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Sounds like your blood work wasn't conclusive. I would be asking for the results and / or re-testing depending on how old the results are. The iron range for "normal" is huge. What's considered the low end of normal is plenty low enough to have most of the symptoms of anaemia. That's just one example. Vitamins, minerals, trace and amino acids should be looked... -
ARCHIVED People Who Don't Want To Understand
Kjas replied to tennisman's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
My response to this is always the following, they need to think before they say crap like this. "Oh, I would die if I couldn't eat bread." "Don't worry, it'll kill you first." -
ARCHIVED Mom Wants Me To End It Over His Celiac
Kjas replied to KricketKrick's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Honestly, I think you mother has half a point. Hear me out. It doesn't sound like he takes his condition completely seriously. I used to work in a restaurant also, but I was getting glutened constantly. I made the decision to move into a new line of work after a sufficient amount of time passed when I was being extremely careful and still getting sick... -
ARCHIVED Can Cows Milk Contain Wheat, Rye, Or Barley?
Kjas replied to listinglily's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
The others are right, this is likely a casein or lactose intolerance. I have found milk here where I live (not the USA) with gluten added to it - utter cheap crap that they call milk which is only sold at gas stations. But I don't think it's possible for the gluten the cows eat to make it through into the milk. However, I have discovered that after... -
From what I understand from someone who runs a very successful restaurant, they have 2 separate areas. Since most food is naturally gluten free and they don't want to contaminate it, rather than marking a space for the gluten free food, they actually mark the space for the gluten containing foods. Essentially, a particular area of the kitchen is for food...

ARCHIVED Australians And New Zealanders Hellooooooo :)
Kjas replied to Aussie Peg's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
I've had the choices gluten free before. Honestly, they're pretty good. They have the nicest raisin toast I've had since since going gluten free. They do a nice range of breads, bagels, garlic bread and ever pre packet make at home raspberry loaf. They also deliver if you're in one of the main cities on the east coast. -
ARCHIVED Help With Nutrition And Supplements When Beginning Work Outs
Kjas replied to Kjas's topic in Sports and Fitness
Thank you for the replies so far. I will try to address what I can. Before I was diagnosed, I was hospitalised in Sep 2010 for my iron levels and blood sugar issues. Since I was not diagnosed, I told them I don't do well with processed food and gluten, but they gave it to me anyway. When the nurse saw I refused to etc the bread etc, they said if I didn...
