ARCHIVED Why Do Some People Feel They *must* Have An Endoscopy?
jswog replied to Monklady123's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
If it waddles like a duck and quacks like a duck, it must be...a horse! Sometimes it feels like that's the logic the medical profession uses! Jen -
I agree completely. I will not even spend a second considering it, just saying that I do believe it is possible.

ARCHIVED Undiagnosed And Looking For Natural Help And Healing
jswog replied to Shurrie's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
And if for no other reason than that, I'm very thankful that, of all of the auto-immune disorders I could have, I ended up with Celiac! -

Big pat on the back to you for that as well! Kids do not generally come by that kind of compassion without being taught to be empathetic. They sound like wonderful adults in the making! Kudos! -
That's how it happened with my sister's Crohn's. It went into remission (and yes, they have said *remission* not cure) during both of her pregnancies and then reappeared after.

ARCHIVED A Miracle?!? - Change In My Reaction To Gluten
jswog replied to lucia's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
And, BTW, you never did answer Irish's question about where you are in med school. And I'm a bit surprised that you are 21 and already in med school. Most people haven't even finished a Bachelor's degree by that age... -
ARCHIVED A Miracle?!? - Change In My Reaction To Gluten
jswog replied to lucia's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
But there are VERY VERY few GIs or nutritionists who do deal with this on even an almost daily bases and even fewer have much of an understanding of this disease. Why do you think it takes on average as long as it does for people to get a proper diagnosis? -
ARCHIVED Gluten-Free But You Can Still Have A Serious Problem To Still Fix
jswog replied to heidi g.'s topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
But you say you had flattened villi shown on intestinal biopsy? Then you DO have Celiac Disease. And are you 100% sure there is no history of Celiac or other auto-immune disease? Auto-immunie diseases were not understood until relatively recently, so it could well be that there were undaignosed celiacs back there somewhere. And what about other auto-immune... -
While I cannot comment specifically to Celiac, I can tell you that my sister went into remission with her Crohn's Disease while she was pregnant and breast feeding her two boys. IMHO, it would be in the realm of possibility, but would not necessarily happen for everyone. My 2c... Jen

So I posted almost two weeks ago now that my period had FINALLY started almost exactly one month after going gluten free. I had to go back to see my OB as soon as my period started for a re-check on some minor cysts which she suspected would clear with a period, but she wanted to make sure. They did, and during the appointment she and I discussed what to...

ARCHIVED Nutritional Profile
jswog posted a topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I finally visited with the nutritionist my OBGYN referred me to just this evening (after playing phone tag with her for over a week). She pretty much said to just keep doing what I'm doing, that I'm on the right track and that it sounds like I have the bases covered between diet and the supplements I'm taking. I asked about some vitamin/mineral tests to try... -

We LOVE our Foreman grill! I've had a baby one for years and when my husband and I got married earlier this year, we went out and got the big one. It's great for burgers, chicken, salmon, or anything else you'd put on the grill. -

It does sound to me like maybe you've developed some additional intolerance: dairy, soy, corn, etc., though many people DO report becoming more and more sensetive the longer they are gluten free. And I'm sure keeping an eye on your blood sugar cannot hurt anything, so what harm is it? Even if it does no good and leads you to nothing, IMHO it would be worth... -

HUH???? How are you going to heal if you don't go gluten free???? This makes NO SENSE!!!!! To OP - Please keep eating gluten free! It is the ONLY way you will heal! -
ARCHIVED Importance Of A Diagnosis
jswog replied to Curlyqueen's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I also feel that a 'real' diagnosis would make people take things more seriously, especially my work. As a matter of fact (and you can read the full story in my recent post about my Bad Day from yesterday), I cannot even go back to work until I get a doctor's note saying that my 'rash' (that I believe to be DH) is not contageous. Grrr... From the research... -
Plain crackers? You aren't talking something like saltines are you? I have yet to find anything that I'd consider a 'plain' cracker that is gluten free... Jen

ARCHIVED Importance Of A Diagnosis
jswog replied to Curlyqueen's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
IMHO, this is a very personal thing, to want a diagnosis or not care. I'm really torn right now about it. I had an EGD/Colonoscopy during which the doctor (and I use that term ONLY because he apparently graduated from med school and managed to pass licensing exams) was SUPPOSED to have taken biopsies. He decided that he didn't need to take ANY biopsies because... -

I, for one, CANNOT go for hours on end, especially with the level of activity at a theme park, without eating! I had to get a doctor's note to be able to take food/water in with me to work, too, because I HAVE to eat or I will be sick. I need to eat small meals every 2-3 hours and would not leave the park that often. Even some lines take almost that long...
