  1. That's AWESOME! If I'd known then what I know now, I would have gone gluten free BEFORE my wedding instead of waiting until afterwards. My wedding was Sept 10 and my last day of consuming gluten was Sept 13. While my wedding day was all that I wanted it to be, I definately did not enjoy is like I could have had I felt the way I do now. Instead I had two of...
  2. Very good points, Skylark! Very encouraging! Thank you very much!
  3. Totally OT, but have you read the *entire* serenity prayer? You can find it on line and, personally, I find the words to be much more moving when put in the entire context. Jen

    ARCHIVED Worried Yet Cannot Help.

Though more is always better, especially as you detox from gluten. Drinking about double the minimum amount of water each day was the only thing that seemed to help much at all with my detox symptoms (some of the worst headaches of my life, sleepyness with insomnia, etc.). Jen
  5. We'll be gone for nearly two weeks and I'll be packing enough food to pretty well cover my needs for the whole time. Will you be driving or flying? We're driving, so packing extra food is pretty easy. I'll probably start cooking in the next week or two and freezing things that I will just need to nuke and have some quick, easy meals that I know are safe.
  6. Unfortunatly, I'm in a little town in the middle of nowhere in West Texas, so I'm very limited on choices, adding GREATLY to all of my frusterations! I wish I could find a doctor like yours!
  7. Thank you everyone for your responses! It looks like maybe I'll just have to join the ranks of you all here who are 'undaignosed' or 'self-diagnosed'... It's just hard for me to accept that I'm not going to get that official seal from the medical profession (which I'm not sure I fully understand why it bothers me as have very little respect for it), but it...
  8. I apologise! There is so much discussion on here about lactose intolerance that I assumed (and I think we all know what that does! ) when you said no milk that you were referring to that. Still, my point is the same that a gluten free diet simply means gluten free. If you have other things that you are avoiding for other reasons, they are not necessarily...

    ARCHIVED Worried Yet Cannot Help.

Honestly, that doesn't sound like 'lots' of water to me. The general recommendation that has been around for YEARS is at least 8 8oz glasses per day of water, which comes to 64 oz, which would be just over 3 of your 20 oz bottles, so 2-4 may well not be adequate hydration even on that scale. That being said, I've also seen the following recommendation many...
  10. My doctor REFUSED to order those tests without a diagnosis.
  11. Believe it or not, I'm actually already feeling that way even after only one month. It feels that in one month, I've reverse aged (for lack of a better term for it) about 10 years. For only 35, I felt VERY OLD many days: crawling to the bathroom in the morning because my body hurt too badly to walk, having to sit or lean on something to get dressed because...
  12. This will also be my first holiday season gluten free. As of now, my plan is to make up my own gluten free versions of the things that will be served (at home in my own kitchen) and just bring 'my' food along. I've already been discussing the menu with my mother-in-law and trying to figure out what I need to do to keep myself safe. Bottom line is that I don...
  13. Thank you both for those links! Very interesting reading... I guess I'll consider NOT getting this done to be money well saved. I'm just so frusterated with not getting any results in dealing with doctors to get any sort of diagnostics. In the long run, having the 'official' word from the medical profession (which I do NOT hold in much regard at all) will...
  14. *Some* of us may not be able to have them because of the milk, but not *all* of us. Not all of us are lactose intolerant. I am not and there are others who are also not. There is nothing in that list of ingredients that a celiac could not have unless he/she has other intolerances on top of gluten.
  15. I'd just like to take a minute to thank each and every one of you who took the time to respond to this thread. Thought I am not the OP, I too am very new to the gluten free lifestyle (right at one month now) and have been greatly encouraged by all of you who've shared your stories here! Thank you!!!
  16. I don't see anything on this list that would be a problem unless a person has issues with soy or dairy in addition to the gluten. It does appear to be gluten free.

    ARCHIVED Biopsy

Well, I got my results back this morning and, of course, they came back negative. So now I'm left to wonder if it really is negative or if the doctor is just an idiot who didn't do the biopsy correctly... This whold diagnostic journey is very frusterating and depressing...
  18. OK, so all of the doctors here is this little hick town are blooming idiots! I've had people suggest that I look into the stool testing for diagnostics and we're checking with our insurance to see what kind of coverage we can get on that. But my main question is, given that the blood tests/biopsies are totally inaccurate once a person goes gluten free, is...
  19. As a server at Olive Garden, I'm sorry to hear that your experience was sub-par, but am VERY glad to know that management made things right, which is policy for OG. I just recently had an issue eating out at another Darden restaurant, Longhorn Steakhouse, and my meal was also comped. I ordered it using all of the instructions stated on their gluten free menu...
  20. Thanks for posting this, Muffy! While I cannot offer any advice, I do hope others can/will as I am in a similar situation as you are. I'm 35 and have only just very recently started on my gluten-free journey, all the while TTC (or, as we like to say, not NOT trying...lol...with very strong hopes). Neither my husband nor I have other children, however, so...

Do you have a recipe/instructions for this?

    ARCHIVED Biopsy

Thank you for the responses! I have my fingers crossed that it is not too far away. Since the GI who did my endoscopy decided that he didn't need to do biopsies of the small intestine because he didn't 'see' any damage, I'm praying that this will serve as a definative diagnosis and, therefore, I will not be required to 'challenge' gluten in my diet and deal...

    ARCHIVED Biopsy

I had a biopsy for DH done earlier in the week, but the doctor took the biopsy from about 6" from the 'suspicious' area. Is this too far away to get results?

    ARCHIVED Eggs?

OK. So I've been on a full elimination diet for about three weeks now. I 'challenged' corn and was fine. I challenged eggs on Sunday and had diarrhea and just generally didn't feel well. We were also camping, hiking/climbing, overheating, and I got a slight sunburn. All of that added together, I wasn't sure if the eggs were the problem. I was feeling better...
  25. I am so greatful to FINALLY find the CAUSE of so many things that have held me back in life. I am greatful (or at least *trying*) to give up foods that have been making me sick for so long. I am greatful for a wonderful, supportive husband who's helped push me along in this journey of finding the 'healthy' me. I am greatful that after not even a month of...
