ARCHIVED Nail Problems
jswog replied to sariesue's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I'm not familier with UV color gel nail polish, so I am not sure. But I do know that I was told that the shellac does NOT damage natural nails and that it has not damaged mine. If anything, it has done just the opposite for me! I've had acrilic nails for quite some time and for the first time (since I've gone gluten free) have I even been able to grow my... -
ARCHIVED Had Egd Today, All Is Well? A Little Discouraged
jswog replied to pinkcloud's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Many, many people on here have reported that their doctors said the exact same thing, but when the biopsies came back, they were positive for celiac. Think about it this way, if the doctors could always SEE the damage, why would biopsies EVER be taken? When I had my EGD last month, the doctor didn't even TAKE any biopsies because he said he couldn't see damage... -
WOW! I never dreamed this would start so much great discussion and advice. Thank you so much everyone!

My husband is an AMAZING advocate for my health! As a matter of fact, he gets much more emphatic with restaurant/grocery staff than I do for the most part. I know if it were an emergency situation in which either he wasn't there or we were both unable to advocate for ourselves.

I know it's not a life-threatening allergy, but I was completely shocked two weeks ago when I went into a dermatologist for a biopsy (prob DH, but he did the biopsy wrong...). The biopsy was done and the nurse was starting to bandage it, while the doctor was giving me instructions. He was telling me to be sure to not let it dry out and that petrolium jelly...

ARCHIVED Texas Renaissance Festival Gluten Free?
jswog replied to cameron's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
Too far for me from BFE San Angelo... The potatos were wonderful (spiral cut, they were using power drills!) so if they have those, go for it! Looking forward to your report. -
ARCHIVED Texas Renaissance Festival Gluten Free?
jswog replied to cameron's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
Where in TX? Curious... My husband and I were at Oktoberfest in Fredericksburg recently and I did find a few things there that I could have (had quite a few snacks in my backpack, just in case). They had some GREAT fried potatos that they were slicing fresh and frying right there on the spot, no additional ingredients, just the potato with dedicated fryers... -
ARCHIVED Challenging Gluten
jswog replied to jswog's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I guess maybe I didn't say things clearly. My symptoms have improved GREATLY since going gluten free and I have ABSOLUTELY NO INTENTION of going back on gluten for 3-4 months to try to do another biopsy or bloodwork. Bloodwork was not done as I was already gluten free when I found out that the biopsies had NOT been taken like they were supposed to have been... -
ARCHIVED Nail Problems
jswog replied to sariesue's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I, too, just got my second shellac done, but unfortunately mine only lasted about a week and a half before it started peeling off. I've always had that problem: polish of any kind doesn't hold on my nails. It peels off in sheets. -
ARCHIVED Challenging Gluten
jswog replied to jswog's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I had an EGD during which the GI was SUPPOSED to take biopsies to test for Celiac, but because (and I AM quoting here) he "didn't SEE any damage," he decided he didn't need to take any. I did't find that out until TWO weeks later when I had my follow-up appointment with his nurse practitioner after I had been gluten free for a full two weeks (went gluten... -
OK, so I've been 'strongly suggested' to get a medical alert bracelet since I developed a penicillin allergy several years ago. I have several other allergies that really should be listed (laytex, petrolium products, now eggs). Now I'm wondering if I should start looking into it again and include Celiac on it. Does anyone else do this? If you do, do you know...

ARCHIVED Challenging Gluten
jswog posted a topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I know you all will understand. Due to IDIOT doctors, I have no definative diagnosis. I've been doing a through elimination diet and have been gluten free since Sept. 14th. I'm almost finished challenging all of the many things I've removed, with the only thing so far that's given me issues being eggs. However, I know I will have to challenge gluten very... -
ARCHIVED Recipe Testers Wanted
jswog replied to lorka150's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Not sure how to PM you from here, but I'd be happy to help! And my husband is a GREAT taste-tester! -
ARCHIVED Condensed Tomato Soup?--Suggestions Appreciated!

I have absolutely NO help to offer, but just wanted to say a huge thank you for sharing the story! It brought a smile to my face this sleepless night! -
ARCHIVED Almay Smart Shade Foundation
jswog replied to alissar's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I've been wondering the same thing. I can't seem to find the information on most of my makeup products, many being Almay. I hope someone here has the answer! -
ARCHIVED Going On Vacation Wednesday...
jswog replied to love2travel's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
What wonderful news!!! Can you adopt me as a sister and take me along? My husband has traveled Europe extensively, having lived in Germany for 6 years, but I have never been. We're truly hoping that his job will take us to Germany or Italy soon. Have a GREAT trip! -
Another thing that helped me out GREATLY in getting over the withdrawl was to drink LOTS, and I mean LOTS, of water, about twice the 'normal' recommended level. I think it just helps to flush/detox all of the crap your body needs to get rid of!
-
There is ABSOLUTELY gluten withdrawl! Gluten can have a similar effect on the brain as some street drugs (heroin) and can have similar withdrawl. I was completely MISERABLE for the first two weeks I was gluten free. I'm about 5 1/2 weeks now and feeling great!

ARCHIVED Very Up And Down Day...
jswog posted a topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I've had a CRAZY day! I started off with a lovely visit to the OBGYN (follow-up) and she commented on the 'breakout' on my face (which I believe to be DH) and I then launched in on the whole story about the GI who didn't bother to do the biopsy because he didn't 'see' any damage and the Dermatologist who took the biopsy a good 6" from the suspected DH. She... -
ARCHIVED Gluten Enzymes - Experience/reviews?
jswog replied to Leper Messiah's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Thank you, Skylark! This is GREAT information to file away in the back of my mind. -
Well, I'm giving my gluten free diet and newfound health even more props now! Before we got married, my husband and I made the decision for me to discontinue my Depo shots with the hopes of conceiving fairly quickly (I'm 35 and he's 40) and knowing it can take a while for the drug to get out of a woman's system. My last injection was in February (with one...

ARCHIVED Beer ?
jswog replied to fourlisa's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I'm with you! I think the Redbridge was hands down better than the Bards, but neither were really BEER! Maybe I'll go try the $6+ bottle of Greens I have in the fridge and give you a report on it. Jen -
First off, there is no such thing as 'borderline' Celiac. You either have the disease or you do not. As for a gluten free diet, it does sound difficult at first, but unless you are eating mostly processed foods, it is not all that complex. I'm VERY new to eating gluten free myself (just over a month now), but found that the vast majority of the recipes I...

ARCHIVED Beer ?
jswog replied to fourlisa's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I've managed to get my hands on Redbridge, Bards, and some of the Ciders. Redbridge is ok, but still doesn't really taste like beer to me. Bards really, really sucks! The ciders are decent, so long as you are expecting a sweet taste and not a beer taste. The first time I had one, expecting BEER, I couldn't even finish my bottle (my wonderful beer-loving ... -
Where in Texas? I'm in TX myself and have not seen any advertising for this. I'd LOVE to know more!
