ARCHIVED Did Anyone Else Not Really Like Wheat?
gfcolorado replied to megsybeth's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I used to pick the meat out of my sandwiches, too. I usually ate the hamburger without the bun. My husband loves Italian food and I never got excited about going to Italian restaurants. I loved pizza but it always gave me a stomach ache so I figured it was probably from all the fat. Now I can eat a whole gluten-free pizza and feel fine! I did love warm bread... -
ARCHIVED Newly Diagnosed
gfcolorado replied to wj73's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
It's not as bad as you think. Once you get used to the diet changes, it is pretty easy. I would recommend finding a support group in your area and/or possibly a nutritionist/dietician to get you started. Look for Celiac conferences and gluten free food fairs. They have great info. And ask lots of questions on forums like this. We have all been through it... -
It's totally normal and it does get better. For me, the first year was really hard. I wanted to eat everything that I couldn't eat. And the first of everything is hard....first dinner party, first vacation, first Thanksgiving. But, it does get easier and I really feel fortunate that I can control my health through my diet. I have several friends with cancer...

ARCHIVED ? I Got Answered Wasn't What I Expected....
gfcolorado replied to carecare's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I just realized I never wrote in with answers on my biopsy after testing positive for DGP IGA. It was negative. But, it's now a year later and I just did yearly bloodwork and my TTG IGA is still negative but DGP IGA is 31 (moderate to strong positive is 30+). I have no idea why this is. I have contacted several Celiac specialists in hopes of an answer. -
ARCHIVED It's Official, I Have Celiac Disease
gfcolorado replied to karinp's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Congrats...Kind of!! Welcome to the world of Celiac. For me, the first 3 months to year were the hardest because I wanted everything I couldn't have. But then it got pretty easy and now whenever I find a new gluten-free product I get really excited. It's also a great way to discover new restaurants. There have been times when I have almost started to cry... -
ARCHIVED Celiac And Stunted Growth
gfcolorado replied to gottarun96's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I have just started researching this because I have a 15 y/o daughter who is 5'3 and I am celiac and am 5'4 and my husband is 6'3. My daughter hasn't tested + for celiac but I am starting to wonder if she went gluten-free if she might still grow more. The research I have found says that you can stop growing anytime between puberty and early 20's. It depends... -
ARCHIVED So Confused...need Help
gfcolorado replied to bbdailey's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
It sounds like so many doctors tell patients it's in their head. First of all, you might want to contact support groups and think about find another doctor/s. Or, ask people here. I was diagnosed with Hashimoto's and Celiac at the same time (3 years ago). Before being diagnosed, For the first time in my life, I was starting to feel really down and getting... -
ARCHIVED How Worried Should I Be About Cross Contamination?
gfcolorado replied to Metoo's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I think you need to see your test results first. If you are positive for Celiac and/or your endoscopy is positive, you need to be really careful. If all of your results are negative then you can decide based on your symptoms. I have Celiac and fortunately my symptoms are minimal but I need to be very careful because it cross contamination can lead to long... -
Here is my background: Diagnosed 3 years ago with positive TTG and EMA and Marsch 3c biopsy. At 1 and 2 years, celiac tests were normal. Just had 3 year test and TTG IGA and IGG, EMA and DGP IGG were negative but DGP IGA was positive (61). Decided to get biopsy since I have minimal symptoms and don't really know for sure when I am glutened. My GI took...

ARCHIVED Super Confused
gfcolorado replied to DonnaMM's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I am not in the medical field but I also so thought that blunted Villi mean Celiac. Have you seen the results of your biopsy? If not, I would ask to see them and maybe bring them to another GI. Or post your report here and I'm sure you'll get a lot of responses. Also, do you know how many samples they took for your biopsies. That is another reason for false... -
ARCHIVED ? I Got Answered Wasn't What I Expected....
gfcolorado replied to carecare's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I will post as soon as I find out. My doctor did 12 biopsies so it should give a good picture of what's going on. This forum has been so helpful and glad I can provide info to help others. I think it's such a new test that there aren't all the answers we want. -
ARCHIVED Nail Problems
gfcolorado replied to sariesue's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Mine used to be like that or they'd easily break. I just got my 3rd Shellac manicure and it's amazing. It stays on for 2-3 weeks and my nails are strong and getting long. I find myself frequently touching them because I can't believe they are so strong and won't break. Multivitamins also seem to help. -
I know how frustrating it is to have positive blood tests. I just had 3 year repeat followup testing and my DGP IGA was high. I just had a biopsy to see if I have any more damage and am waiting for the results. I am similar to you in that I don't really have a reaction so I usually don't know if I was cross contaminated. Which blood tests did you have...

ARCHIVED ? I Got Answered Wasn't What I Expected....
gfcolorado replied to carecare's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I have tried to do a lot of research also on the DGP test. I was diagnosed with Celiac 3 years ago. I just went for a follow-up and my TTG, DGP IGG and EMA were negative but my DGP IGA was positive. I asked numerous people (my GI, Rodney Ford, manufacturers of the test, an allergist) and everyone's answers were different. Several (my GI and test manufacturer... -
ARCHIVED Colorado Ski - Copper Or Vail
gfcolorado replied to CeliacMom's topic in Traveling with Celiac Disease
Hi Nina, I am Celiac and teach skiing very part time in Vail. I have skied all over Colorado and am always looking for gluten free options. Most of Vail's on mountain restaurants have gluten free items listed. They are aware of the gluten-free market and I'm hoping there are even more options this year. As of last year, I didn't see any gluten-free... -
ARCHIVED Dgp/iga Results Positive
gfcolorado replied to patz's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I think there is so much they still don't know about Celiac and Gluten Sensitivity and the DGP test. When I went to a Celiac conference about 3 years ago, they hardly talked about Gluten sensitivity. When I went last year, the top Celiac researchers all talked about it. Most doctors say that you don't have Celiac until your biopsy is positive and no one... -
ARCHIVED Dgp/iga Results Positive
gfcolorado replied to patz's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
When I was originally tested 3 years ago, all my tests (TTG, EMA, DGP) were positive and so was my biopsy. This time, only my DGP was positive. My TTG and EMA were negative. I think I'm going to get another endoscopy just to see what's going on. If I do, I'll let you know. -
You got some great advice. My symptoms before being diagnosed with Celiac were very similar to yours. I used to get bad stomach aches/bloating/uncomfortable usually after going out to dinner. I just mentioned that to my doctor at a yearly physical and she tested me for Celiac and all my bloodwork was positive. I got an endoscopy to confirm and am glad that...

ARCHIVED Test Results
gfcolorado replied to carmenm's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
From my understanding, the IGA Total is just to determine if you are IGA deficient or not so that they can test for other tests. Does it have a range for the TTG IGA tests? The mayo clinic is an excellent resource on Celiac testing. Here is a link with algorithms for different testing scenerios: Open Original Shared Link I'm not in the medical field... -
ARCHIVED Positive Blood Test/negative Biopsy
gfcolorado replied to carmenm's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I had "stomach issues" since I was a kid but didn't realize I had Celiac until I was 43. I would get really bad stomach aches and that was my only symptom so I thought it was just who I was . I was normal height, weight, had children easily and was really healthy and I think if I had been tested at 11, I probably would have tested negative. I haven't had... -
ARCHIVED Test Results Questions
gfcolorado posted a topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Hello. I was diagnosed with Celiac 3 years ago. I just received follow-up testing and my TTG IGG, IGA and DGP IGG were negative; however, my DGP IGA was positive (61). From what my doctor explained and from what I have read, I was exposed to gluten. My doctor said it would have to be a continual exposure, not one time. As for continued exposure, I have no... -
ARCHIVED Dgp/iga Results Positive
gfcolorado replied to patz's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I just came across your post and realize it's been awhile so I'm not sure if you'll get this. I just had a positive only GDP biopsy and was wondering what your biopsy came back. Thanks! -
ARCHIVED How Long Does It Take For Antibodies To Decrease?
gfcolorado replied to Asharia's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I just found out that my antibodies (DGP IGA) are elevated again, too and I've been searching all over for info. I also want to know if it's possible for them to be elevated from a one-time exposure or if it has to be continued. My doctor said it would have to be from continued, almost daily exposure. I had my father-in-law/retired GI research it for me and...
