ARCHIVED My Daughter Had Her Endoscopy....dr Prescribed NexiumCathey replied to carecare's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms I hope your DD is feeling well soon. If she has never been on re-flux medication before watch her stomach and BM's. New medication can reap havoc on your intestinal track. I was on Zegrid for 2 years and it stopped working last year. Endoscopy showed inflammation to stomach and esophagus, no celiac blood work was taken @ that time. This year I have been...

ARCHIVED We'Ll All Be Eating Gluten In About 15 Minutes...SorryCathey replied to camprunner's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease I'm sorry your having such a hard time with family and friends understanding your health. Remember NO ONE can take advantage of you unless you let them. Take as much pre-made food as you can with you to eat, make meals and freeze them, pack in ice and travel keeping in mind your health is the most important thing and have an enjoyable Holiday. I was just...

ARCHIVED Please HelpCathey replied to Jenny (AZ via TX)'s topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips Sounds like a delicious meal. I've had the same problem for years with one oven. Start by making a list of all oven meals, temperature and cooking time. I make the meat first, remove and let rest covered (good spot to rest is on the stove or away from a window draft). Re-position the oven racks and set new temperature. Then you can start adding the new...

ARCHIVED Someone Said Udi's Is The Best Bread And I Dont Like It!Cathey replied to ScarlettsMommy's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications I agree the first few days were horrible. It's all trial and error the first few tries, I must of thrown out 5 different types of rolls and bread in the beginning (birds actually ate it). I will have to look for the Rudi's and the other bread suggested. Currently I use Udi's, love the raisin bread toasted with jams. I toast Udi's whole grain bread make...

ARCHIVED Need Pasta RecipeCathey replied to Juliebove's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips Sounds like your MIL made Aglio e Olio and just added shrimp. If I use 1/2# pasta I use 10-12 garlic cloves slice thin in 1/2 cup EVOO, heat low-med till garlic starts to brown (don't burn it will be bitter). Garlic flavor has a lot to do with the freshness of the garlic, if you have any green stems slice garlic in half and remove them. I prefer corn pasta...

ARCHIVED Experience With Nylabone Pet Products?Cathey replied to livelifelarge24's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications First off a dog should not have anything that is not digested (rawhide, nylabone, marrow bone). We do well with the Kong (red rubber) types. Our dog has a special diet, 6 or so years ago he had Helicobacter went through an endoscopy, 30 days of Z-Pac and several thousands of dollars. He only eats Sweet Potato and Venison dry food and vegetable or sweet...

ARCHIVED Sorely Disappointed With Gi Appt. TodayCathey replied to Hailiesmom08's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs I'm sorry your young one is suffering, I know it's hard to sit back and depend on the professionals who have no clue. I would have food allergy testing done through blood work and scratch testing. Also watch the lactose and dairy intake, that immediate diarrhea may have been from dairy the day before. Not an easy task watching your young one suffer. Take...

Here's my I idea of beating the weather photo. This past January I had to go to Florida for a funeral of my 50 yr old cousin. We had a really bad winter in Long Island New York. The week after I came back the snow was a bit much and I grabbed my snorkel equipment and I was back in Key Largo. Always smile when I see this one.

ARCHIVED Just Diagnosed And Feel Like Its The End Of The World!Cathey replied to ScarlettsMommy's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease It's totally fair to scream, to be angry, and to be jealous! But stick around the board, and read from the thousands of folks who have been in your shoes and have learned how to make adaptations that worked for them. You will figure out how to do it, and you will - with some effort - figure out the mental perspective that will make it easier. But this...
