VydorScope replied to TCA's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Call us! Get us a shopping list and we can bring it. You still have our number right? I am serious. You get me a shopping list of foods that I can find here in town (Kroger, Publix, Walmart or Wild Oats are the big ones in town) and I will get them to you either directly, or I can get help from my Sunday School Class for sure. If we can not come in the... -
ARCHIVED What Do You Use To Replace Dairy?
VydorScope replied to AndreaB's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
When I went dairy free for a while I used Vance's Dari-Free to replace milk in things like coffee, cearal, etc. I aslo use it to make homemade ice cream which worked well. Probably would work well in cooking, but I just used fruit juice as a 1:1 replacement (esply OJ!) and it always seemed to work well. Yogurt/Chesse I just skipped because I do not like... -

As for Vandy... when my son was in, as soon as he was stable enough to move they brought us to him and whe we arrived a nurse was holding him in a rocking chair. NOthing like what you describe. So TCA is in good hands based on my expernce! -

ARCHIVED Megan's Gagging Isn't Any Better
VydorScope replied to TCA's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Tanya, what does this mean for the heart surgy? As for the foods, look at what your currently eating, and thing you think would be good for her to eat, and that will give you a list to play wiht. After that cross of everything that you think you already know the anwer to, and that probably get you a good list to hand them. -
Actaully, McD's own gluten statement says the flavoring in the oil contains "dectectable levels" of gluten . The calim is by the time it gets to the fries its small enough not to matter. That cailm you have to make your own call on, as I have many here have siad, ppl react to thier fries. Wether it from the HUGE cc risk there (both intentional or otherwise...

Every food function I have been too they have asked me what htey can do to make sure my son can eat there, and most often I say that I will just pack food. Bah. Ppl like that give ppl a bad name. -

VydorScope replied to mart's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Well said. I think you just scared your freind and she just plain feels stuck, she does not want to hurt you, but to have you over for food would do just that. I think this all could be solved with some heart to heart talk. -

ARCHIVED Splenda
VydorScope replied to lemonade's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
It is linked from that page. Again I do not want to defend nurtasweet/etc. I do not even like them, they taste funky. Splenda I do like, but only in certin uses. As a hypogylcemiac, I must restrict the use honey, fruit juices, or other sweetners, I am fairly limited to stuff like Splenda, Stevia, and Xytiol that do not effect blood sugar. Sugar is... -

ARCHIVED Kellogg's Has Bad Info On Their Website
VydorScope replied to floridanative's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Franceen, if you want to contine to eat gluten, thats your call, but you need to stop telling others that it is okay to eat gluten, because alot of ppl that do not know any beter come here looking for adivce, and your threads are DANGEROUS and RECKLESS to them. I think you do not understand the seriousness of this diease or the extreme health impact that... -
ARCHIVED Splenda
VydorScope replied to lemonade's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
1 seriving of Stevia costs about 3 times the price of 1 serving of Splenda. I have been watching its price hoping it will fall. It was closer to 4 times at one point, so there is hope. Speland is more expensive then sugar, but I do not have that math handy. Again this is per serving. Stevia in liquid form is like 3ml or there abouts per serving, drawing... -
ARCHIVED Splenda
VydorScope replied to lemonade's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Agave, Stevia, Xyitol, etc are better then that white posion (sugar) that ppl here think is so much better then Splenda cause its "natural", however they are priced out of reach of most ppl (Stevia is more then 3 times the price of splenda for example). This makes Splenda, IMO, one of the beter choices when you need a "sugar" substitue. Personaly I try... -

Diet soda neither helps nor hinders wieght loss by itself as far as I know. The advantage to it is that it has no calories or carbs so you can spend those else where instead of on your drink. Cafine which is in Diet Coke could increase your appettite, but you could get cafine free version. Most ppl (based on the ones I know) do nothing to control...
