  1. I got some of the Midel ones and I wasn't impressed. They were WAY too sweet for me.
  2. Wednesday night I had to go to a scholarship award ceremony (I got a $500 scholarship). After the whole speeches, name reading, blah blah blah there was a desert reception where you are supposed to go and rub elbows with your donor (required). So there I was. I had been at school since 9am (left the house at 8am). I have class until 4:30 pm and I had to...
  3. My dad and his first cousin have it (who knows who else). I'm sure my brother has it, but he's young and stubborn and doesn't want to get tested. My sister tested negative but feels better on a gluten-free diet. My mom has severe symptoms and tested negative, but her doctor (also my doctor) says that she should try the diet anyway. My mom's (late) sister...
  4. You said that you made crab casserole, did you use real crab meat or did you use fake crab? The fake crab and lobster usually contains wheat (at least all the ones I've looked at....)
  5. As far as I know, you cannot have DH independant of celiac disease. You can have DH with no villi damage, but it could still occur later in life. A dx of celiac disease is not necessarily a dx of DH, as you can have a skin allergy with a similar looking rash. I don't know about the skin cream, I stopped using any gluten-containing products as soon as...
  6. My doctor is like that too. She called me at like 7:30 pm to tell me that my results came back positive. She has been fantastic. She didn't really know much about celiac disease, but since my diagnosis she has been going way out of her way to learn about it, she even went to a seminar to learn more.
  7. Wine and champagne would be fine too, they are both made from fermented grapes and contain no grains (unless they added some kind of flavoring afterward, I haven't seen anything like that though). I know nothing about gluten-free beers because I can't get those where I live.
  8. I would try the cider. It's made from fermented apples (you can have fermented things, right?). I can only get Woodchuck where I live, and I like the dark and dry best.
  9. Aw! Mine is like that too, isn't it nice to be able to relax and know that he is looking out for you too? We went to a dart thing of his at a bar not too long ago, and I went to the bathroom right away when we got there. He had a bottled soda sitting on the bar for me and said "I hope this kind is ok, I remember you saying that this brand was gluten-free...
  10. This tool (from Naturapet, makers of California Natural and Innova) allows you to look up and compare the ingredients of up tp 4 different cat or dog foods/treats. Open Original Shared Link For cats the #1 food I would choose would be Felidae, it's a great food and it's gluten-free (here in WI my mom pays less than $8 for a 6lb bag, so it's reasonably...

    ARCHIVED Dh

    Yep.
  12. Johnsonville original brats are gluten-free, to the best of my knowledge. Yeah, right. Vikings my ass! GO PACK GO!!!
  13. I have had the same problem. I looked all over the site and I couldn't find any information about the gluten-free beer. Jams, I almost weep everytime I walk through the store and see Spotted Cow.
  14. Oh I hear you there! That's the first thing that people usually ask me "Can you have beer?" and then they are totally horrified when they find out I can't. I mean, why even live in Wisconsin if you can't have beer! What am I supposed to do when we go to the Packer game this year??
  15. I eat healthier, read labels more and I'm much more aware of what is actually in food and which things I don't want to put in my body. It gives me something to think about and research when I'm bored. It has made me really "listen" to my body for the first time in my life and really pay attention to my health instead of just assuming that I'll be fine...
  16. Connie, I was using triamcinolone before but recently I was given clobesterol (sp?). It's similar, but stronger and it works MUCH better for me. If your stuff ever seems like it's not working anymore I would try the clobesterol. Nicotina is one of my favorites, the blossoms are so fragrant. I don't know if it's related or not. Nicotinamide is just vitamin...
  17. I have no idea, does it seem to be spreading when you do this?
  18. Well, I've been looking it up and everything I find says that the biopsy should be taken from normal skin but nothing specifies whether or not there needs to be an active breakout. You should probably talk to a doctor to find out for sure, but if you're interested here are a couple of articles that I found: "Dermatitis herpetiformis is diagnosed by a special...
  19. You're not alone. I was dx in April, and before the day they drew blood for the tests I had never even heard of celiac and was not aware that such a thing existed. I feel better, my severe itching and rash is gone. That is more than enough to keep me faithful to my diet (I'm getting more and more sensitive as time goes on, too). But some days I...
  20. I have a very full schedule at school this semester which really doesn't leave me any time to eat. I need ideas for snacks that are: -very portable -non-messy -nutritious -FILLING -no heating required I swear, I could eat a pound of carrot sticks and still be hungry. I need something that will stick with me for a little while. Any good ideas?
  21. The way understand it, the IgA deposits remain in the skin for months or even years after going gluten-free. So they should still be able to take a biopsy.
  22. That's a really cute idea!
  23. Hey Barbara, if you come back and read this.... if you hop on University and take it west into Middleton you can't miss Imperial Garden. It's huge.
  24. Also make sure that your detergent and fabric softener are dye and fragrance free, that really bothers my skin too.
  25. I have DH, but I also have a latex allergy and apparently an allergy to certain dyes. I get that same thing, a rash around the leg line and the waistline, as well as around my ribs where my bra goes. I get undergarments that have the elastic wrapped in cotton and they all have to be white. I found some "boy short" type underwear at JC Penney that I really...
