ARCHIVED My Biopsy Word For Wordsquirmingitch replied to troykm's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease And wouldn't it be fair davemu for you to post the source of your information? You have not done that yet you ask the op to do so. Please provide links for documentation of your information.

ARCHIVED Outrageous Things I Have Said And Done!squirmingitch replied to 1desperateladysaved's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease I buy the envelopes that self seal. You know, they have that peel off strip. They really don't cost much more & I don't get glue all over a sponge nor have that awful taste on my tongue. I have been enjoying the repartee but back to the OP's questions as I know it is truly a concern for her. 1D, I will admit that the things you proposed would sound...

ARCHIVED My Biopsy Word For Wordsquirmingitch replied to troykm's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease I will also add a tidbit of information here. In the case of celiacs with dermatitis herpetiformis; we test negative on the blood panel even more often than celiacs with the GI issues. We also have patchier damage in the gut so it's harder to find with an endoscopy/biopsy. Thus, it's even more difficut for us to get an "official" dx. We can have the area...

ARCHIVED Need A Good Fried Turnover Recipesquirmingitch replied to squirmingitch's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips Thanks you two. I'm not afraid of L-A-R-D! Heck, I need to put some fat on these skinny bones. Call my sister? Heavens no! We don't jive. Never have, never will. Don't even know her phone #. If I did she'd likely suck the blood out of me right through the phone receiver. I'll look for lard or spectrum shortening. Patti --- OH YEAHHHHHH ---...

Yeah, I know about the pie crust thing ---- I have tried umpteen pie crusts & have never been able to get the hang of it. My sister can make it perfect every time --- guess she got all the pie crust genes cause I sure didn't!

ARCHIVED Need A Good Fried Turnover Recipesquirmingitch replied to squirmingitch's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips Thanks eatmeat! That's what I was looking for! I don't know why I couldn't find one to suit. I Googled 60 ways from Sunday but never thought to search for fried apple pie ----- DUH! The only thing is the shortening. Crisco is soy & I can't do soy. Then there's the whole low sal thing. Would it work do you think to use safflower oil instead of shortening...

ARCHIVED Need A Good Fried Turnover Recipesquirmingitch replied to squirmingitch's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips Oh thanks. I can try it but would have to order some online as we don't have availability like that at local stores. I was really thinking of something I could make myself.

ARCHIVED Possible Celiac?squirmingitch replied to lolly's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms The generally recommended length of time to be back on gluten is 3 months at the rate of 3-4 slices of bread or the equivalent per day before getting tested. Sure it would be okay for you to try the gluten-free diet before you go back to eating gluten for testing. BUT I will tell you that after going gluten-free MANY people experience much stronger reactions...

ARCHIVED Frozen Shouldersquirmingitch replied to christianmom247's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease My hubs had/has frozen shoulder. At first we didn't know what his shoulder problem was & then a friend who has Lupus has the problem & mentioned hers to us & described it. I Googled it also & yup, that's what my hubs has. It presented about 3-4 months before we figured out he was celiac also. He's been gluten-free for 3 months now & it...

ARCHIVED Awkward Dinner Momentssquirmingitch replied to beachbirdie's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease Ahhhh, I misunderstood then. Well, you know what to do --- pack something to eat in your purse & just say lightly something like, "Oh! It's fine! I always carry food & I'm quite used to it so let's all go to the Chinese place. I do this kind of thing all the time!" with a nice laugh. And then link arms with someone & say, "last one out the door...

ARCHIVED Awkward Dinner Momentssquirmingitch replied to beachbirdie's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease I'm so sorry beachbirdie! I really can't give you any advice but I wish I could. You & I are different in that I don't feel awkward like that. I just plain come out & say it. I can't eat gluten. I dislike saying the word disease though because of what it implies to most people so I term it where I say I am a celiac. But I know there are tons of people...

ARCHIVED Possible Celiac?squirmingitch replied to lolly's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms Yes, I think it's very possible that you are celiac. If you decide to get tested YOU MUST continue eating gluten (& I don't mean a tiny bit of gluten) until ALL testing is done including an endoscopy with multiple biopsies. Here is the current FULL celiac panel. make sure your doctor does the FULL panel. Anti-Gliadin (AGA) IgA Anti-Gliadin (AGA...

I'm in! In the celiac state there will be no poisonous snakes. No poisonous spiders. No lyme disease ticks --- well, what do we need ticks for at all? NO TICKS or fleas. There will be a bounty of wildlife of all manner but there will never be an overpopulation of any species & there will be no disease among the wildlife. There will be bees &...

ARCHIVED Could These Symptoms Be Celiac?squirmingitch replied to JT09's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms Yes, these symptoms could very well be celiac. Yes, many celiacs have or develop other food intolerances b/c of the damage to the gut. Many times these food intolerances resolve eventually once the gut heals. Celiacs also are notoriously known to have problems with soy & that may never resolve. First, the celiac panel returns close to a 30% false negative...

ARCHIVED Losing Hope...squirmingitch replied to kswan08's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms kswan, SOY can make you bloat like crazy! Many celiacs have problems with soy so if you are eating anything containing soy you can try elimiating that from your diet & see what happens. Soy makes me bloat like you wouldn't believe --- like I'm 15 months pregnant!!!! I will bloat so bloat so badly that I literally feel like my abdomen/stomach/intestines...
