ARCHIVED Annoyed With Dermatologist
squirmingitch replied to GlutenFreeAustinite's topic in Dermatitis Herpetiformis
I'm sorry your having such a rough time of it. It's okay to rant here; if you can't rant here, where else you going to do it? I was back reading your other post & gee, 4 whole months on Doxycycline seems like a lot! Well, derms don't have a record of believing in dh that's for sure. It's like they are rabid against it to the point of not believing it... -
ARCHIVED Suspected Dh, Is It Worth Going To Doc Or Just Wait It Out
squirmingitch replied to Christine0125's topic in Dermatitis Herpetiformis
Yes, that's the thing Christine; any cc is hurting you, the dh is a problem but the "hidden" damage inside in your gut is the one that has such dire consequences. The dh is a sure fire method to make us be extremely strict & cautious with our diet. One doesn't soon forget a dh lesson. Also, I'm just speculating here on this but it would seem to me... -

ARCHIVED Hot Enough For You?
squirmingitch replied to Darn210's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
9:30 am here in north central Fl. & 86.7 degrees, 71% humidity. Sunny skies. Prediction is for a high of 95 but here, the humidity will likely go down with that temp. -
ARCHIVED Suspected Dh, Is It Worth Going To Doc Or Just Wait It Out
squirmingitch replied to Christine0125's topic in Dermatitis Herpetiformis
If you go to the dh photo bank & view my photos you will see the scars all over the back of my legs. DH can & does present anywhere on the body. I've had it in my scalp, in the curves of my ears, inside my belly button, armpits, on my nipples, arms, neck, entire torso including butt, legs, feet, hands. The only place I have not had it is on the bottom... -
ARCHIVED Suspected Dh, Is It Worth Going To Doc Or Just Wait It Out
squirmingitch replied to Christine0125's topic in Dermatitis Herpetiformis
Blimey! I would bet cash money dh is it! Okay, no point in going to the doc since you're already dx'd celiac. It's dh. There is no treatment for dh except the same treatment as for celiac ----- gluten free STRICT! There is a drug that will stop the itch, burn, sting & stop the rash from presenting but it does not "cure" dh; it just makes it so it doesn... -
ARCHIVED Need Help Finding Subs For 2 Ingredients
squirmingitch replied to squirmingitch's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I just ordered some golden flax meal today along with cashew flour, hazelnut flour, teff flour, sweet rice flour & I forget what all else. I'm going to experiment with making a white-ish bread version of this with the sweet rice flour & cashew flour. Oh, & I toasted some of the last I made & spread cashew butter on the warm toast &... -
ARCHIVED Golden Syrup
squirmingitch replied to squirmingitch's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Thanks Skylark! Gaggo sweet it is then! bartfull, dairy is iodine so no sour cream. And you know that weird hubby I have? Gags at sour cream! Only thing I've ever been able to get him to eat that contains sour cream is beef stroganoff. -
I was thinking about doing the iodine patch test in the beginning but I did a lot of research on it & mostly IMHO, I think it's up for grabs or a lot of hooey. I don't know. You COULD go low iodine. Here's a link: http://www.thyca.org/rai.htm#diet If things don't start clearing up in a week or less & certainly if no improvement is seen in ...

ARCHIVED Golden Syrup
squirmingitch replied to squirmingitch's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Personally, I'm much more like you bartful. Never really had too much of a sweet tooth & it's grown less & less over the years. Now, hubs is a different matter entirely. We could both do ice cream except we get back into that old iodine factor. Sigh. Just doing time until we can EAT so many things again. We'll get there --- later if not sooner! -
ARCHIVED Golden Syrup
squirmingitch replied to squirmingitch's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
No, I'm cool with cornstarch but not cornmeal as the high sals come into play. -
My rash & my husbands are improving gluten free. But one has to remember it's not always an overnight thing with dh as the IgA can take 2 years (some med. papers say up to 10 years) to work it's way out of our skin. As to the Dapsone; many of us will not take it, it's some scary stuff, & some of us such as myself can't take it as it's in the sulfa...

ARCHIVED Golden Syrup
squirmingitch replied to squirmingitch's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Okay gals, .... low sals, low iodine..... meaning honey & yogurt are out as are guava jelly or any jam or jelly that is not golden delicious apples or mangos, also out are chili powder, lime leaves, lemongrass. We're trying to get the dh to calm down not crank it up to full speed. Having said that; thank you Love2 for the info. on what golden... -
ARCHIVED A Relative Is Diagnosed Celiac- Won't Go Gluten-Free
squirmingitch replied to LeahBanicki's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Perhaps the only thing you can do now is to print off some of the stories of some of the ppl on this board who were way worse off than Peggy is now when they found out they were celiac & went gluten free. Then next time you visit Peggy, you could quietly leave those print outs at Peggy's house so she will be sure to find them. when she's all alone &... -
Hi all! I have never tasted Golden syrup & hubs & I both have to be low salicylate for some months & that means NO corn syrup aka Log Cabin, Aunt Jemima, etc.... That leaves 2 choices ---- maple syrup & golden syrup (berry syrups are out). I know, I know, the vast majority of you will say MAPLE SYRUP!!!!! Well, I duck & run as I...

ARCHIVED Need To Make Preserves Or Jam And Jelly
squirmingitch replied to squirmingitch's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Well now why in the world didn't I think to google no or low pectin jellies & jams? Couldn't see the forest for the trees I guess. Thank you for clearing those trees out of my way purple! Perfect! And oddly enough lemon or lime juice are lower on the sals scale so I can use them. Isn't that odd? All other citrus juice is high sals. -
ARCHIVED Need Help Finding Subs For 2 Ingredients
squirmingitch replied to squirmingitch's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I just thought I would update. I tried the recipe today using just egg white & leaving out the almond flour but increasing the flax meal to 1 and 3/4 Tblsp. plus adding just a bit of water. It was good! I think it needs a bit more sugar though as the flax makes it a bit bitter. Next I'm going to try with the cashew flour instead of almond flour. ... -
ARCHIVED Need To Make Preserves Or Jam And Jelly
squirmingitch replied to squirmingitch's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I haven't made muffins yet --- well not that kind anyway. I'm sort of just now feeling my way around baking gluten-free stuff myself caselynn. Rice is low sals, tapioca is low sals(ick!), cocoa powder is low sals, almond flour is high sals, cashew flour is low sals, it's getting pretty mind boggling to me. Between sals & iodine it seems every time I find... -
ARCHIVED Need To Make Preserves Or Jam And Jelly
squirmingitch replied to squirmingitch's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Oh wow, I can't wait till I can make those muffins! But b/c of needing to be low sals & low iodine, I can't do the strawberries or coconut flour. But the chia seeds for jam would be okay. I have to use either golden delicious apples or mangos, those are the only fruits hubs likes that are allowed with the restrictions. I worry about the pectin either... -
ARCHIVED All The Symptoms But Negative Blood Work...
squirmingitch replied to ~TheFanny~'s topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
The scope & biopsy won't be any good just like the blood tests b/c you have been gluten free. So, like IrishHeart says, you would have to go back to eating gluten. Do you intend to have children? Do you have children? Children would be the only reason I personally would want an official dx. And the reason for that is to help get your children dx'd... -
ARCHIVED Teff Flour
squirmingitch replied to squirmingitch's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Yes, love2, I did note there is dark & light & a red too I believe. I think the light might be more to my liking. However I must admit that the dark was touted as having a hazelnut type of flavor & I do love hazelnuts. -
