ARCHIVED Emu Oil- Work For Anyone Else?
squirmingitch replied to bubbleye's topic in Dermatitis Herpetiformis
I have tried Emu oil & it has not made a bit of difference for me as to helping to stop the itching. So my question would be the same as PDB*DH above. -

ARCHIVED Newly Diagnosed
squirmingitch replied to Caligirl04's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I'm not sure if it works this way for humans or not but it's worth considering & someone can step in here & tell me I'm way off base or not. You might try frozen veggies & fruits in addition to the probiotics. Here's why: If you're going to give dogs fruits & veggies then they should be frozen (& then thawed) first. Their systems can't... -
ARCHIVED Gluten Withdrawl Symptoms...
squirmingitch replied to SwtRandi's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Owlmuse, then the only things I can say other than this may just be the way you withdraw is: Quit ANY processed foods. gluten-free or not; they are still processed foods & "junk" foods. They may be keeping you feeling lousy. Even though you are a silent celiac or maybe BECAUSE you are a silent celiac -- it's harder for you to tell if/when you've been... -
ARCHIVED Gluten Withdrawl Symptoms...
squirmingitch replied to SwtRandi's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Owlmuse, rant anytime you want. We all do it, we all have been there, & we all understand. Are you taking any vitamins? Have you had your vitamin/mineral levels tested? Have you had your thyroid checked? And finally, what kind of foods are you eating? Are you positive there is no cc? Are you & have you been eating processed foods even though they... -
Excellent link. This will help people. Almost all of the photos you find on the net are so severe that they are quite hard to even look at & people with less severe dh than those photos can be easily confused.

We can all look back with 20/20 sight & see the things that were telling us but don't be too hard on ourselves ---- we didn't have computers then. And people listened to & took the doctors word for everything then.

ARCHIVED Peanut Butter
squirmingitch replied to Mnicole1981's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I had been eating organic peanut butter on rice cakes & it didn't bother me. I quit only b/c peanuts are high in salicylates & I needed to go low sal. So now, I have either cashew butter or sunflower seed butter on my rice cake & still have no problem. -
I'm so sorry it's back. Darned stuff reminds me of the movie Poltergeist where the little girl says "it's baaaaccckkkk". Every time you think it's gone --- here we go again. Unfortunately it's going to keep doing that or heaven forbid STAY until you can go gluten-free. And then it can still come back off & on. And yes, it's under diagnosed in all...

ARCHIVED When Someone Asks, "how Can I Get That [Celiac]?"
squirmingitch replied to Finally-45's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I'm one of those that Irish mentioned. Oh, I would like to gain a few pounds but if it doesn't happen --- cest la vie! Other people have always had more problems with my weight (or lack of) than I. I am happy with my hair including the color --- well the grey coming in is getting a little weary. I've always liked my nose. I'm happy with my legs -- even though... -
This is why you can't find the fast melts. http://www.benadryl.com/recall_nov152010 I was just looking for them on drugstore.com & it says the manufacturer is out of stock. so I went looking for the reason & found the recall info. I have tried the liquid but something about...

ARCHIVED Help! Need To Make Shopping List
squirmingitch replied to squirmingitch's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
The list is printed. OMG! OMG! OMG! York Peppermint Patties!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! That's MY love! Although peppermint doesn't exactly agree with me (gas); I can't resist a peppermint patty once in a blue moon. Yes, I know, peppermint is supposed to be soothing but I can't eat candy canes anymore. Well, I have to renig on that as maybe they have gluten &... -
ARCHIVED Help! Need To Make Shopping List
squirmingitch replied to squirmingitch's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Good idea with the Dove chocolate! Hubs was asking about Hersey's chocolate syrup so I'll have to check that out to make sure it's safe. Yes, it IS a great relief having the household gluten free. It's so much easier & faster to prep food now & I know it's just mental but I feel like the kitchen is clean now. -

ARCHIVED Help! Need To Make Shopping List
squirmingitch replied to squirmingitch's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Yes, we did! He actually turned some of them down & is limiting his intake on the ones we did get as he is thinking about processed foods & sals content. Good boy! He had some Haagen-Daz with Glutinos wafer cookies tonight & now he's sampling the Glutinos pretzels. So far, so good. -
ARCHIVED Help! Need To Make Shopping List
squirmingitch replied to squirmingitch's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
In a word, no. I did a lot of research in anticipation of his going gluten-free. Of course the quickest way to get a dx would be a biopsy of the lesions. So I checked out derms within any reasonable distance. I could not find a single one who has experience doing a biopsy of dh. That combined with the fact that he has been gluten light b/c of me since October... -
ARCHIVED Drywall Repairs
squirmingitch replied to eatmeat4good's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Good point Karen. Also there is the question of what was being used in drywall when an existing home was built. 1935?, 1950?, 1970? --- these are all factors as is the age of the drywall in one of those homes. Perhaps at some point after the home was built it received damage from say an "Andrew" & the drywall was replaced. These are things we do not know... -

Lisa, You have to look for it on these links but yes, wheat starch as well as corn starch is used in making drywall. One may not be able to discern which is used in what but it's certainly being utilized.
