ARCHIVED Looking for answers - docs are clueless
squirmingitch replied to Cboray's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
My hubs was hypothyroid. He took synthroid for 20+ years. He was ALWAYS underweight - grossly underweight. Guess what? After dx & being gluten free for a while, he quit taking the synthroid & over a year later got a full, complete thyroid panel done. Numbers couldn't be more perfect. No more hypothyroidism. It was celiac all along. -

ARCHIVED Newly diagnosed IBS for 12 years
squirmingitch replied to JonBNF's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Jon, you MUST be eating gluten for at least 2 weeks prior to the endoscopy!!! This is VERY important otherwise you can get a false negative. GAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA, I wish docs would stop telling people to go gluten free before all testing is finished!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!!!!!!!!!!!!!! They are just wrong! Thing is,... -

You're freaking out. Anxiety is one of the symptoms of celiac disease. CALM DOWN!!!!!! Just breathe, breathe. You're not going to die tomorrow or tonight or the next day. Settle down. If you had a positive celiac panel then the next step is an endoscopy & then you can begin eating gluten free. Now seriously Jon, think about it for a minute. Anesthesia... -

Thank you for letting us know. The gluten free diet is not bad once you get used to it and she will. I'm not sure of the exact odds for your son but they are increased by having a first degree relative with celiac. Remember that all first degree relatives should be tested every 2 years in the absence of symptoms and immediately if symptoms present. -

A hallmark of dh is that it appears bilaterally; that is on both sides of the body ie: both hands, both knees, both arms, whatever. It echoes itself from one side of the body to the corresponding area on the other side of the body.

squirmingitch replied to Stringcheese32's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I had hot flashes & night sweats from celiac. I got tested for peri menopause & it was always, Nope, you're not starting to go into menopause yet. Now I know why I was having those night sweats! I had hot flashes from menopause. For me, they acted the same as celiac night sweats & hot flashes. I haven't had a hot flash for years since going... -

ARCHIVED How long for DH to develop?
squirmingitch replied to Phaeri's topic in Dermatitis Herpetiformis
60% of those with dh test negative on the celiac blood work. Blood work doesn't really give out false positives as you stated but it can give false negatives. The best way to find out if it's dh is to go to a derm & have a dh biopsy done. This is taken adjacent to an active lesion not on one. If they take it ON a lesion, then they are doing... -
ARCHIVED Has anyone else experienced this??
squirmingitch replied to Stringcheese32's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
No need to apologize. Personally, I have a theory that there are subsets of celiacs. Some react more strongly to wheat gluten and some who react more strongly to barley (malt) and maybe yet another reacts more strongly to rye. I can tell you that way back when I was a kid, I learned that malted milk balls were NOT my thing. They got me every time. At the... -

ARCHIVED PLEASE HELP - Blood test results
squirmingitch replied to annies433's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
It's really up to you Annie as to doing a gluten challenge or not. The big question is whether your doc would agree to re-order the tests in 12 weeks. I agree with Emma that you need to get your iron & B-12 levels checked. If you do decide to just go gluten free than like i said, you have to go all the way, strict, no cheating, no cross contamination... -

You had the full, current celiac panel done. That's the one titled Celiac Disease Antibody Profile. Here's some info. on that.: Open Original Shared Link Once in a while a person will be what's called sero negative which means they test negative on the blood work but actually do have celiac but that doesn't happen very often. Then there's the... -
ARCHIVED PLEASE HELP - Blood test results
squirmingitch replied to annies433's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Annie, I see the celiac panel was done on Nov. 2, 2016. Had you been eating the gluten equivalent of a slice of bread each day for 12 weeks prior to that? If the answer is yes, then your celiac panel would not be falsely negative. You could be NCGS (non celiac gluten sensitivity). As RMJ stated, there is no test for that. From what you say, it... -

I could not agree more with Gemini. Ditch that GI doc & get someone else. Just tell the new GI that you have been dx'd celiac (because you were by 2 docs & 2 beats 1). You've been through enough sweetheart, you just need to eat strictly gluten free now & start healing in earnest.
