  1. 2. Please read the Newbie 101 in the coping section to make sure you are not getting gluten sneaking into your diet. Plus it will explain a lot of other things about celiac disease for you. Be sure to follow all the links contained in the thread. Yes, celiac disease can cause osteoporosis or thinning of the bones. It's a rather common symptom of celiac...
  3. It's 3 months for blood but 2 weeks for an endoscopic biopsy. Open Original Shared Link
  4. Blood work would be expected to be negative if you had been gluten free or even gluten light. You've had some gluten sneaking in & not just over the holidays -- that would not still be showing up I imagine. You're lucky you got any positives at all. It sounds like you've got a doc now that knows what she's talking about. Unless you do a gluten challenge...
  5. A biopsy for dh is done on a clear place NEXT to an active lesion. Anything else is not a dh biopsy. You MUST not have had oral steroids or steroid shots within 2 months prior to the biopsy AND you MUST have been eating gluten every day right up until the biopsy.
  6. As to the RAST - IGE, as I understand it IGE is allergy & not autoimmune. The doc did not do the full, current celiac panel. This is it: Anti-Gliadin (AGA) IgA Anti-Gliadin (AGA) IgG Anti-Endomysial (EMA) IgA Anti-Tissue Transglutaminase (tTG) IgA Deamidated Gliadin Peptide (DGP) IgA and IgG Total Serum IgA Also...
  7. You're so welcome! On the blood tests..... they are pretty accurate. It's only the people with dh who test negative on the bloods 60% of the time --- not "regular" celiacs. Just wanted to make that clear. You should go to here: Open Original Shared Link and print off copies of pertinent items so you can take them with you to the docs ...
  8. Rachel. I forgot to mention yesterday that in the case of your son who may well have dh; the reason I didn't say get his blood panel done first is because 60% of us with dh test negative on the blood panel for celiac. DH is best dx'd by the skin biopsy. What happens when people go for the blood panel first is that 90% of the docs & derms out there...
  9. Sorry but the doc is wrong, wrong, wrong. You have to be eating gluten right up till the blood is drawn AND if the blood is positive then you get sent to a GI doc for an endoscopy. If you haven't been eating gluten then you have to eat it for 2 weeks for the endoscopic biopsy.
  10. You need to take him to a great dermatologist who is well versed in taking biopsies of the celiac rash, Dermatitis Herpetiformis or dh as we call it around here. The biopsy needs to be taken on a CLEAR place ADJACENT to an active lesion. If they take it ON the lesion then they are doing it WRONG. He needs to continue eating gluten until the biopsy is taken...
  11. There are something like 1-3% of celiacs who do not carry the "typical" genes so a gene test is not the all fired gospel. Yes, it's extremely rare for one not to have the typical genes associated with celiac disease but that does not mean it's impossible to have celiac without those genes.
  12. Oh that's so sad about your mom. At least your partner has a relative with celiac so knows it's a "real" thing. Lot's of times we get people whose spouse/s.o. doesn't believe celiac is really a real disease &/or doesn't think it's something you seriously need to be strict about the diet.
  13. This is wonderful! Hooray!
  14. I'm glad you explained to your boss. I'm curious what kind of reaction you got to that? Care to share?
  15. Amen to that cyclinglady! I miss the convenience of gluten.
  16. Don't eat anything for me cause I don't miss it. But ENJOY what you can, while you can! Oh you poor baby. The next 4 weeks are going to get rough. {{{{{{{{{{{{{SLLRunner}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}
  17. I'm sorry, the link no longer states all 200 symptoms. It used to so this is a new re-vamp of what they used to have. Unfortunately I had not saved the old PDF to my computer. Kicking myself now because I wish I had & my old computer is defunct where I saved it before. Couldn't even get stuff off the back up. BTW, I recall Fibromyalgia was one of the...
  18. chell, You might be interested in reading this list of 200 symptoms associated with celiac disease. Open Original Shared Link Oh & BTW, we call a dx of IBS a dx of I Be Stumped.
  19. Yup. Sure is. Am I missing something or aren't there 2 positives there cyclinglady? Both of these are positive: GLIADIN IGG- 15.75. Range <15 u/ml GLIADIN IGA- 102. Range <15 u/ml My sympathies on the passing of your sister.
  20. Yep. Armpits are the pits. Belly buttons too. In the ears as well.
  21. I have never gone sugar free. The blepharitis cleared up just being gluten free and I don't have a timeline for you as I was paying way more attention to the resolution of much larger symptoms and only noticed the blepharitis had resolved somewhere along the line. If I had to guess, I might say a year, maybe less. I never cut rice.
  22. You can search this forum. That's what i did. Otherwise You just have to contact GI specialists & ask.
