ARCHIVED does your diet have to be like a perfection?
squirmingitch replied to Churpy's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Churpy, I think I know where you got that bit about after X number of years you can reintroduce gluten but it wasn't five years. Over 50 years ago they used to think that children who had celiac disease could be gluten free for TEN years & then they could eat gluten again. WRONG on all counts!!!!! Celiacs never become NON celiac; not even if they lived... -
ARCHIVED Second Panel has come back...advice?
squirmingitch replied to heyitsmissa's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Yes, the DGP IGA should drop also. If the gastro said that then he must be willing to dx based on positive results from being gluten-free. GOOD DEAL! Just to be sure, go through every food item in your kitchen again. Take a magic marker & write gluten-free on each box, bottle or carton. Why? Because when I went gluten-free, I thought I had already... -
FDA proposed rule on gluten-free labeling of fermented or hydrolyzed foods: If you haven’t already, please take the time to comment on the rule. The comment period closes February 16. But this is truly a CALL TO ACTION. Your input is needed. You have a voice, you are an advocate for the gluten-free community. Now is the time to stand up and be heard. ...

ARCHIVED Gluten free diet, positive celiac screen...what should I eat now?
squirmingitch replied to purdue1014's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Okay, first off, we don't know if your PCP did the full celiac panel on you. You said, "She told me today that it was "positive for serological markers for celiac" and something about GPDs, and referred me to a GI specialist. " I'm thinking she said DGP's not GPD's & IF she said that then you most likely got the full panel but we just don't know that...- 29 replies

ARCHIVED Gluten free diet, positive celiac screen...what should I eat now?
squirmingitch replied to purdue1014's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Oh, I forgot another biggie.... 3) If you are officially dx'd then all your first degree relatives should be tested (again back to the every 2 years if not sooner if symptoms present). This means your siblings as well as your parents. I can't tell you how many people we've had on here who don't have an official dx & their 1st degree relatives refuse...- 29 replies

ARCHIVED Gluten free diet, positive celiac screen...what should I eat now?
squirmingitch replied to purdue1014's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Here are the reasons: 1) You are 24 yrs. old. I'm assuming you might want/have kids sometime in your life. You could pass the celiac gene on to them. They could present with celiac at some time in their life. If YOU are dx'd then it is sooooooooooo much easier to get testing for your kid(s) who should be tested every 2 years unless they present symptoms...- 29 replies

ARCHIVED Gluten free diet, positive celiac screen...what should I eat now?
squirmingitch replied to purdue1014's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
It's okay if you have more than 1 cracker a day; the challenge is saying you must have at least 1 cracker a day so if you want to have more that's absolutely fine. In fact, if you want to gorge on all your favorite gluten goodies from now until the endoscopy then have at it because it looks like you'll be saying goodbye to it all after the endoscopy. You...- 29 replies

ARCHIVED Gluten free backing food
squirmingitch replied to rpayne88's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I just went back & checked the ingredients in those gluten-free MRE's. It says modified food starch & doesn't specify from what so if I were you I would certainly check with the company & have them clarify that to your satisfaction. -
ARCHIVED Gluten free backing food
squirmingitch replied to rpayne88's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
This is not going to be easy for you. You're going to have to change the foods in the pack out from time to time rather than just packing it & leaving it for years. I'm thinking weight is a factor too. I have a few suggestions..... Open Original Shared Link Tuna in pouches. Powdered milk Open Original Shared Link Nuts & dried... -
ARCHIVED What does this all mean?
squirmingitch replied to beccibaxter's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
It's terrible that you are left hanging like this! I'm so sorry. Can you get to the doctors office & get a copy of the of the test results? If you can, then you could post them here & we have people who can interpret them for you. -
ARCHIVED Lower left abdominal, left pelvic & other random pains
squirmingitch replied to xcalibr's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
You're very welcome! If you were eating like normal prior to the test then you were fine. I was just saying that going gluten free NOW, prior to the endoscopy can be a problem. Just so you're aware of that. As to the question about the healing process with celiac vs NCGS, I can't help you. But that would be a very good thread for you to start. One... -
ARCHIVED Lower left abdominal, left pelvic & other random pains
squirmingitch replied to xcalibr's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
xcalibr, There is a certain danger in going gluten free before you've had all the celiac testing. Now granted, maybe celiac isn't your problem but you should be thoroughly tested for it in light of what's going on with you. So here's the rundown..... 1) Your pcp may not have done the FULL, current celiac panel & you will need to retest to pick... -
ARCHIVED Gluten free diet, positive celiac screen...what should I eat now?
squirmingitch replied to purdue1014's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
First off, my sympathies on your loss of your dad. 24 is pretty young to lose a parent. Cyclinglady told you right in her post above. WHEN the time comes for you to go gluten free then you will need to be absolutely gluten free. Likely on your Whole 30 diet, you were getting a lot of cross contamination. Read this in preparation for going gluten...- 29 replies

ARCHIVED Hello I'd like some advice on my symptoms
squirmingitch replied to Josh sash's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
A colonoscopy can not dx celiac disease nor will a stool sample. You need a full celiac blood panel and an ENDOSCOPY taking 4-6 biopsies AND you must have been eating a normal gluten diet throughout as well as for a long time beforehand. -

ARCHIVED possible celliac
squirmingitch replied to blue2220's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Just make sure you don't go gluten free until ALL testing is done including the endoscopy. It is true that there is no test yet for non celiac gluten intolerance/sensitivity. There is still a lot of research yet to be done on that. At this point, they believe it may damage you neurologically -- at least that's the last I heard. It is wonderful that... -
ARCHIVED Can't tell if I'm glutened or reacting from antibiotic
squirmingitch replied to melprkr's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Did you check to make sure the amoxicillin was gluten free? If so and it is gluten-free, then I would say the amoxicillin has destroyed the good bacteria in your gut right along with the bad. That's what antibiotics do. That's the way they work. Whenever taking an antibiotic, one needs to also load up on the probiotics to restore the good bacteria in your...- 1 reply

Your motto should be: READ EVERY LABEL EVERY TIME Wheat HAS to be declared on the ingredients list and from there you just have to use your head. Where in the world would barley or rye get into diced tomatoes?

ARCHIVED Envelope Glue
squirmingitch replied to NoGlutenCooties's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Open Original Shared Link Excerpted from the above: Glue (primarily found on stamps and envelopes) Why it’s on worry lists: This is a good question. Possibly because if you mix wheat flour with water, you get a kind of primitive glue. Why you don’t have to worry: The U.S. Postal Service and the association that represents envelope makers say... -
ARCHIVED Go back on gluten to be tested?
squirmingitch replied to Ktoda3's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
There are something like 2 to 3% of people who don't have the accepted genetic markers who still have dx'd celiac so it's not a total guarantee the if you don't have the normally accepted genes then you can't have celiac. In the same vein, approx. 1/3 of the population carries the accepted celiac genes yet a great deal of them will never have celiac disease... -
