  1. Please document your rash in photos, print them out & take them to the derm @ your appt. The rash may not look like your photos or be flaring when you see the derm. You can't rely on just telling the doc what it looked like, you need to show them! Do NOT get a biopsy if you have taken oral steroids or used topical steroids in the past 2 months. ...
  2. It has to be a biopsy. Google for how it is correctly done & print it out & take it with you. Open Original Shared Link Diagrams & everything: Open Original Shared Link And here's another reference: Open Original Shared Link Lots of reading involved but it's all relevant: https://www.celiac.com/forums/topic/95643-interesting-reading...
  3. Your biopsy will come up negative. You HAVE to be actively eating a full gluten diet up to the day of the biopsy. Sorry.
  4. Yes, I think the IGA builds up over time but that's sort of a relative question & the answer is relative to the situation one is speaking of. I sort of didn't carry through with the rest of my thought before about the celiacs who began as GI issues & were even dx'd that way but then kept getting cross contamination or didn't take the diet seriously...
  5. You can get dh ANYWHERE on your body!!!!!!! The only places I have not had it are my lips. I have even had some (only a few thank goodness) on the bottom of my feet. Have a look: Open Original Shared Link
  6. Kopka, as to your question on delay time....... as I understand it from your previous posts, as yet you have not gone 100% gluten free. I believe you said 70% and then 80% for the last 6 months & each time, when you go back to eating 100% gluten, it's 3 or 4 weeks before the rash appears again. I'm not being snotty here but it's hard to put this into...
  7. The general rule for a dh biopsy is to have been actively eating gluten for 2 months --- same as for blood panel but with dh, we tend to test false neg. on the blood work 60% of the time. The biopsy for dh has to be taken from clear skin ADJACENT to a fresh lesion NOT ON IT. The patient can't have had oral or topical steroids for 2 months prior. If the...
  8. I'm not saying that b/c I can't say that 100%. There is nothing I've read that would allow me to say such. I wasn't sensitive to any foods before dh reared it's ugly head (other than shroomies which I just don't eat). Therefore, I wasn't/don't eat any foods I'm sensitive to so can not say from my own experience that I did not flare when eating foods I am...
  9. Blaze, How many times did I ask myself if I was reacting to something that was not gluten? I finally learned not to second guess every single thing. How did I learn this? 1) Common sense 2) I reacted when there was absolutely nothing out of the ordinary that I had eaten. Arizona Green Tea is gluten free, in fact ALL the Arizona teas are gluten free. ...
  10. Amen to that Beth!!!! And to tothesky, He was dx'd with celiac, he does not need to be dx'd with dh. Treatment is NO GLUTEN! Waste your money for a dh biopsy b/c he would have to eat gluten for 2 months or else you'll get a false negative. HE WAS DX'D WITH CELIAC. How many times does he need to be hit over the head????? A dx of dh is pointless now. And...
  11. WONDERFUL! Whew! Even I'm breathing easier now. Good, good, good! You're doing the right thing & keeping him on gluten till the results come back is the right thing too. You're doing just fantastic mom! And your DS sounds like he's quite the little trooper. I'm SO glad this is finally (almost) over! I'm sure you are way more glad than I am but I know...
  12. YVW!
  13. You are more than welcome! That's what we're here for. Good deal! No, don't EVEN think you're a terrible mom! Don't you DARE! You're doing this for the greater good. I know it's hard & I know there is guilt that creeps into your mind; that's only normal & you would be a bad mom if it didn't. (((((HUGS)))) to you both! Okay, so it is...
  14. This looks like dh. Let's remember that other things can look like this too BUT, given the history.... One question --- is it on both elbows? BTW, I got them on the backs of my knees long before I ever got one actually on the front of the knees. Okay mom, let's get busy here & try to get something finalized on this & end it once & for...
  15. He did it wrong. A biopsy for dh has to be taken from clear skin ADJACENT to an ACTIVE lesion. The biopsy has to be sent to the lab with instructions that they are looking for dh. AND the patient HAS to be actively eating a full gluten diet for 2 months prior to the biopsy or you will get a false negative.
  16. It certainly doesn't sound like dh at this point. I have to agree with cyclinglady that it sounds more like your shampoo. But with celiac & also with non celiac gluten intolerance; there can be many skin different issues besides dh as well as allergies. The apple cider vinegar could make your scalp drier & flaky. The tea tree, while much touted b...
  17. Also, if you wouldn't mind...... would you please go to this thread & post the name & location of the dermatologist who did your biopsy & dx'd you? And put dermatologist in the title of the thread as well as the city. That could really, really help out someone in that area who is looking for a derm who knows what they're doing & knows how...
  18. Well, welcome to the forum you never wanted to be a part of. We all wish we had a key to speeding up the process. I haven't seen any medical answers to that question nor have I read anyone who has dh who found a way to speed it up. Unfortunately! It's a matter of the antibodies. Gluten is not under the skin, the antibodies are. One would have to find a way...
  19. Did the biopsy come back positive for dh? "Gluten reaction" does not tell us if you were dx'd with dh. Furthermore, if you do have dh then steroid cream is helping you say but even topical steroids make the rash flare terribly when they are withdrawn. You either use the cream for years until the antibodies get out from under your skin or you sweat it out...
  20. Rusty, I'm not getting on your case here, please understand that, but the rash can & does do whatever it wants whenever it wants. I told you that before. There are no rules as to how much or how far or when it's going to spread or flare or calm. That's why I said this is going to be a mental battle. Mine flared, it spread, it calmed, it flared, it got...
  21. This could just be the cycle you're in right now. Then again..... And I went through that kind of thing where you think it's something you're eating & it drives you batty! In the end, it wasn't what I was eating but..... I can't answer about how others reacted to sals once the dh is gone except to say that one, I believe, Pricklypear, only went...
  22. You use words to describe the itch like my husband does! When I went low iodine, the thyca.org site listed more foods that they do not list now PLUS I hunted down other lists of foods that were anything above low iodine. Among those foods we did not eat were spinach & almonds. Perhaps the iodine content in those got you. ???? Okay, I would at...
  23. Well Rusty, if you have been reading on here then you know that dh can come & go as it pleases & that means ON gluten or OFF gluten. If you have dh (& you never mentioned anything about itching) then the flare you had after adding the almonds, honey & spinach may not have been related to those foods at all. It could have been & then again...
  24. How long have you been gluten-free? You can either stay that way or go back to a full gluten diet for 2 months & then go to a derm & get a dh biopsy. Read threads on here to make sure they do the biopsy right. There are many gluten related rashes with celiac disease & not all of them are dh but I'm not saying yours isn't -- I'm just saying it...
  25. DH can present anywhere on the body. I'm not sure what you are describing really sounds like dh though.
