    ARCHIVED Finding The Right Doctor

So we found a decent enough looking Endocrinologist and we got a referral. We called to schedule the appointment and were told that I am too young to be treated by her. I wasn't excited to see this doctor because her reviews weren't great but,i'm assuming the woman would know enough about TSH to tell my I'm hypo and to test for Hashi's. Well now we have...
  2. Charese. I live in Utah too. We got snow and within an hour of sunlight every neighbor was shoveling their drive way. We left ours and it was melted by 2 pm. lol Now it is almost melted off our lawn. I'm happy for a mild winter. But I suspect this winter will last until July. Fireworks in the snow. lol

  4. My mom is so sick of the word thyroid. She flips out, and I mean flips out anytime I say anything about it. It makes me feel unheard and lonely. It is depressing. It makes me really mad that she won't let me talk about it. I see the same thing with people who are going gluten free. Their spouses are sick of hearing about it. Oh well, they need to get over...
  5. You need to just eat meat, veg, and fruit until your system can handle the other things. Don't go stuffing yourself full of gluten free processed foods. As for him telling you he is sick of hearing about it, my mother told me the same thing. It really hurt my feelings. It feels like they don't understand and it is because they don't. They try, but they...
  6. I really appreciate the links. Especially Dr. David Derry. It is more conclusive of hypo thyroid with my symptoms. You guys have so much knowledge and I really appreciate you sharing it. Maybe one day I will be able to share mine with someone who needs it.
  7. Paint it Black- Rolling Stones I rock at this one on guitar hero.
  8. We are scheduling the endo on Monday since it is too late today. The iodine test is scheduled for Thursday and Friday, we will probably get in before that. I am hoping for a competent doctor. This is hard for me, I'm young and it is hard learning that these people have no idea what they are doing. I trust them over and over and it leads to no answers....
  9. My doctor said my last TSH test which was 5.17 out of their range of 1-4.5. He said that showed HYPER thyroidism. It surprised me because all of you said the opposite. He hadn't actually received the TSH test to my knowledge so he could have misunderstood me when I said it was off the charts. He only got the T4 and T3 tests from the GI.
  10. My thyroid test came back. TSH 2.26 Range .3-3.0 (according to the endocrine association or something like that) Free T4 1.07 Range .54-1.55 Free T3 3.1 Range .5-3.90 My question is: are these still considered "high normal"? My doctor still wants to do the radioactive iodine test and scans, but didn't say whether these are still "kinda" high...
  11. We are seeing an endocrinologist before the radioactive iodine test. If she says it isn't necessary then we won't do it. I forgot to tell everyone that my doctor highly recommended a endocrinologist, and he gave us a referral. She works at MckayDee Hospital. He isn't going to do all these crazy things himself. I don't even know if it is legal for a...
  12. Yesterday we went to my follow up with my Family Doctor. He said all my test results including TSH (which I previously posted)show hyperthyroidism not hypothyroidism. He suspects graves. They took more blood to run all three tests again just to be triple sure. I always feel nervous when they take blood, because I worry that it will come back normal and I...
  13. Rosetapper23- Wow, I don't have half those problems! I'm grateful all I have is minor. I wonder if any of you with thyroid problems, ever have an itchy neck? Mine seems to itch pretty often, no rashes just itching right around where my thyroid is, above it and below it on my upper chest area. Thanks for the GIG info, I will have to look into it. I...

  15. Well all I know is that: Perhaps your daughter has thinning hair and dry skin(cracked lips) from a thyroid problem. Which is very commonly associated with gluten intolerance. The good news is that you don't have any gastrointestinal symptoms because they are awful. I will give you the general rundown of things a lot of people don't know have gluten in...
  16. Last night we found out that my uncle has a hypothyroid, and he just sees his general doctor for it. It has probably been 6 or so years since he was diagnosed. My mom now thinks I don't really need to see an endocrinologist, I tried to tell her hypothyroidism is hardly a diagnosis because it is more of a symptom. The number one cause of hypothyroidism...
  17. You need to be on thyroid medications, if you already are then you need to take them more regularly or get your dose changed. I do believe goiters can become permanent if left untreated for a prolonged period of time. Hashimotos is often linked to gluten intolerance, perhaps when you have been gluten free longer you will have less problems with your thyroid...
  18. Have you had her throat scoped? She could have problems eating because of a small throat or a vascular ring. She may have acid reflux, which would make it painful for her to eat. Was she a colicky baby? That could be a sign of acid reflux. As for clingy, thats more of a behavorial thing usually. It could be Celiac Disease but the only way to really...
  19. Well testing for celiacs in a toddler is pointless, it never comes back positive. It doesn't really sound like that is her problem though. Children can just be thirsty or, if she is waking in the night telling you she is thirsty she might just be trying to delay going back to bed. I don't really know what goes on because I don't live with you I would...
  20. Thats a bummer, but it sounds like its probably worse for the crying kids that live in the noisy apartment, with their parents fighting all the time. As for your side of this, it is a buyer's market right now. Maybe you could find a really nice place to live We had neighbors at my old house that partied all the time. A guy with his 2 sisters lived...

  22. Sounds like you got lucky with a decent doctor. I'm jealous.
  23. Born This Way-Lady Gaga. My dad calls her lady gag gag, lol. I couldn't help myself, and everytime that song comes on I am singing at the top of my lungs. "I'm beautiful in my way, because God makes no mistakes, I'm on the right track baby, I was born this way" I can't get enough. Don't be a drag just be a queen.
  24. I see people like you guys and I am shocked and so suprised. I just don't know where I would get my nutrients if I didn't eat meat or gluten. More power to you though. Stick with it and it will become second nature. The thing that really suprises me is celiac and vegan. What would I eat then? Milk and Eggs are my primary life source. I live in a...
  25. I loved cup o noodles. Tasty. I liked ramen better though. I hate eggplant but mushrooms are pretty tasty too. Of course I like mine fried with some cheese on top... What can I say? I prefer rice noodles over rice though.
