  1. I baked the yellow cake for Christmas, and it was dry. I've since found a yellow cake recipe that I'm going to sub some of the milk for fresh lemon juice to make a cake, and it also has 2/3 cup mayonaise which apparently helps with the moisture. You might want to try adding 1/2 to 2/3 cup mayo to the yellow cake. Their site had rave reviews on the chocolate...
  2. check here, Open Original Shared Link looks similar to yours, I think. Is it itchy? Also, as far as having eaten out, it's possible that my MSG and DH theory came into play? I have read that a Open Original Shared Link, so you might want to consider that as a possibility when you eat out or even when buying groceries. Before I realized I had DH / celiac...
  3. Maybe there's some sort of performance rating or quota system for Celiac and other things, and since it's early in the year she didn't want to mess things up? I don't know, it's the only thing that makes any sense to me.
  4. I followed the 'blood type' (ER4YT) diet, also O+ for several years after I discovered I had a problem with wheat. But since some other gluten grains (spelt, rye) were rated 'neutral' I continued to eat them, plus very occasionally having wheat, until just a little over 3 months ago. My suggestion would be to go totally gluten-free, and see if that makes...
  5. Many years ago I went to a pizza place that also had dessert pizzas (using 'healthy whole wheat' dough! ) But I recall that the one we tried had apples, cinnamon, walnuts and cheddar cheese. It was delicious! Now that you reminded me, I want to try to make a gluten-free version someday!
  6. Also, since you also said you had margarine with the potato, the first thing that came to my mind was soy. Can you substitute real butter in place of margarine to test that? And for protein, I eat chicken thighs a lot, with rice or rice noodles or a sweet potato and/or some other veggies. Last night I threw some frozen peas in with my rice so they'd cook...
  7. I like Amy's Organic soups, and some of them are gluten-free. They were about the only ones I could find when I was just avoiding wheat and corn that had at least 2 or 3 flavors that met those requirements. I just looked at a can of Tuscan bean & rice soup and it does indeed say gluten-free, also.
  8. There are a few threads in the 'labels and ingredients' message area that I looked at when I was researching shampoos, etc. Basically you want to avoid any ingredients that mention wheat, and I believe panthenol is also derived from wheat so I avoid that too. Also ingredients that mention oats as they're usually cross-contaminated with wheat, and barley or...
  9. I believe it was Dr. Tom O'Bryan where I also heard the suggestion to take a fish oil / cod liver oil supplement to assist with reducing inflammation. It'll have natural vitamin A & D, as well. I use a mint-flavored cod liver oil from twinlab. Dr. O'Bryan's site is www.thedr.com -- I listened to all of the mp3's on there, so I don't specifically know...
  10. I've recently been attempting to learn French, since I took a few years of it in elementary school and my paternal grandmother's family is from Quebec; and I listened to some of the family speaking in French when I was little. I decided to use the Bible, and found a French one for only $10 online. I have several of them in English, already. But then I realized...
  11. Was there any particular issue that sent you to see the Dr.? Or was it a routine physical sort of thing? That may have some bearing on what you'd expect to have happen with a gluten-free diet. It's also possible you're still (unknowingly) ingesting gluten, and you'd need to discover how to start seeing a difference.
  12. Welcome! I'm somewhat new'ish here myself, and haven't really looked for other forums. I guess I actually got it right the first time. I think the people here are great.
  13. Yay! Encouraging updates are good to see. I'm 3 months into being on a gluten-free diet myself, and yesterday I realized that a rash I've had on the back of my arms for like ever, is gone! It was small red bumps, but not blisters I don't think. I seem to recall that occasionally it would be a bit itchy, but nothing like what I had much more recently on the...
  14. Thought I'd chime in, since I'm a sometimes EFT practitioner. Just not a great marketer! There are a couple of EFT books by Gary Craig available on Amazon, one being the EFT manual, and the other being EFT for PTSD. I have the 2nd one. I think there's another one for weight loss. I actually spent a few years in therapy for anxiety, and it would have been...
  15. Try this, Open Original Shared Link site. The things I avoid are any sugar that doesn't specify 'cane sugar', as well as avoiding most corn that isn't labeled organic or non-gmo. I was happy to see that Rumford baking powder labels theirs as non-gmo. I also avoid zuchini (s?) if it's not organic. I probably need to look at the list again myself, those are...
  16. Have some tortellini for me! Or pizza. Or both!? Hang in there, and keep us posted.
  17. Here's my recipe for buckwheat pancakes that I adapted from my Fannie Farmer cookbook recipe for griddle cakes, and a small t = teaspoon, capital T = tablespoon: 1/2 cup white rice flour (substitute as needed, I'm going to experiment with sorghum this weekend) 1/4 cup tapioca flour / starch (same thing) 1/4 cup buckwheat flour 1/2 cup (organic) heavy...
  18. It looks like I found this thread a bit late, and the paleo diet may be very helpful. I've discovered that MSG causes my DH to flare. I knew it wasn't from gluten (different symptoms) and I didn't think it was iodine since I'd been pretty low-iodine for weeks, but eating whole eggs didn't cause a reaction. Here's a thread where someone mentioned a flare-up...
  19. I wasn't aware there is a home test. It's probably not like a home-pregnancy test where there's a specific hormone that it can test for. I'm not sure how important it is for you to have an official diagnosis, but it sounds to me like your symptoms point to a possible gluten intolerance. One thing you could try is to avoid gluten for at least a couple of weeks...
  20. Stash Earl Grey is fine for me. Listed ingredients are black teas and oil of bergamot. I was just at Safeway and saw their Organic Earl Grey ingredients show black tea and natural flavoring. I went with the Stash, since I've been fine with it. Otherwise I also drink Red Rose tea. (Note: I'm not sure if I qualify as 'super sensitive' so ymmv...)
  21. The bread I've made myself with rice flours, doesn't get brown at all, on the darkest setting in a toaster oven. It's a new toaster oven, to boot! But since it gets a bit crispy and hot, and the butter melts, I say 'good enough!'. I did just buy a loaf of Rudi's cinnamon raisin and nearly burned the 2 slices I toasted, with the setting a little under the...
  22. I still haven't quite got the hang of the brown rice pasta, but my 'go-to' noodles are asian rice noodles, the ones I have are from Thailand. They would probably be perfect for a tetrazzini. I bring the water to a boil, put the noodles in and sort of squish them down into the water, and let the water come back to the boil. I then let them boil for 1-2 minutes...
  23. Ref. potential non-celiac leaky gut, I know from my recent studies that it has to do with something called zonulin. I just did a search for zonulin gliadin protein and there were a few articles that might be interesting and also might be highly technical. Then I also found this one here on celiac.com that breaks it down pretty well, imo. (no pun intended...
  24. I've been taking Open Original Shared Link 'Udo's choice Adult's probiotic' with no issues. It doesn't specifically say that it's gluten-free, but it does say 'Vegetarian' on the label and lists the probiotic strains and then lists Other Ingredients as: Potato Starch, silicon dioxide, ascorbic acid, stearic acid and hydroxypropyl methylcellulose. I got them...
  25. For the most part, if you start feeling better on a gluten-free diet, your list of foods that you're sensitive to should go down as your digestion heals.
