  1. I would suggest to give it at least 2-3 months, and see if perhaps you don't have fewer issues as time goes on. I believe it's not unusual for some people to have things get worse initially, though perhaps others will add their perspective on that. You said you'd tried probiotics at one time and they didn't help, perhaps you could try digestive enzymes or...
  2. I'd agree with what others have already answered, and just wanted to add that I used to have headaches about every day when I used to drink diet soda (with aspartame / nutrasweet). It took me a little while to realize that's what was causing them. Fatigue, joint pain and skin issues I've also had, related to gluten.
  3. Or extra light olive oil? That's what I use almost exclusively. It's very neutral. Or Canola? Though I do sympathise on feeling left out, it pretty much stinks.
  4. If they're not specifically saying they're gluten-free, I'd skip it and go with something that is labeled gluten-free. You could also try the search term 'centrum silver gluten free' or something similar on the search on this site and/or your favorite search engine and see if anything comes up from others who have or haven't tried them?
  5. If you have a choice, I'd suggest you find a new doctor.
  6. I sometimes use white rice, sometimes 1/2 and 1/2. One tip I picked up on a cooking show, was to soak the brown rice for about an hour before cooking it. When I've done that, it cooks much better in the same amount of time as the white rice. The method is just to add the brown rice quantity (i.e. 1/2 cup) as well as the water to the pan 1 hour or so before...
  7. My (not an expert) opinion would be to get some good probiotics. Udo's choice has one for yeast control, with a spectrum of bacteria (8 I think) and extra acidophilus. Some on here suggest Culterelle, I'm not sure if it has acidophilus though. Second idea would be to eat (drink) meat and vegetable broths, and very well cooked vegetables and see if you...
  8. I posted a recipe last month for banana bread, and I've made it again since then. It's good!
  9. Hey, it just so happens there was a thread by someone in the Coping topic area who was happy that her hair is growing back (linked)! As for the B vitamin question, you might want to wait a month or so, to give your digestive system a bit of time for healing, and start taking a good gluten-free multivitamin. I just started taking the Vitamin Code vitamins...
  10. Anemia, yes. Anxiety, yes. Heartburn (not diagnosed, didn't see a Dr. about it), yes. Fatigue, yes. Several years ago I thought it might be thyroid related, saw a naturopath and labs came back in the normal range. Giving up corn and especially corn syrup helped that somewhat, but not enough to be more than barely functional. I also had sore knees, especially...
  11. I believe it depends on the type of test. If the rash you have is DH, then an endoscopy may not yield a 'positive'. There's also one of the blood tests (IgA I think?) that will only be positive if you have total villous atrophy. But if you have DH, then there are some of the other antibody tests that may be positive, since having the rash would indicate there...
  12. Great news! I noticed last weekend that an area on the top of my head (the crown area, near the back) which has been pretty thin for ages, and which I didn't attribute to Celiac or gluten at all, has started to fill in. I've been gluten-free for about 10 weeks or so, and have sporadically taken some probiotics and vitamins and try to eat some veggies on...
  13. It is impressive, they look good enough to scarf down! Where can I get one?
  14. I've been reading the book Wheat Belly, and it said that after 5 years of a gluten-free diet, one's risk of those other diseases attributed to Celiac goes down to 'normal'. So, you're not always at higher risk IF you stick with a gluten-free diet. I also thought I'd mention that probiotics might help after all of those anti-biotics, though it was years...
  15. I went completely dairy free for a while, including taking out butter and switched it for the same as you mentioned (Smart Balance). It seemed ok for a week or so, but then I started reacting, including stomach pain and foot cramps. That was a few months before I started eating gluten-free. After doing some research about soy I went back to butter and even...
  16. I realized today I need to replace my non-stick griddle pan, it looks almost new, though I've had it a couple of years I think and I thought I cleaned it pretty well. I made some buckwheat pancakes on the pan a few days ago and got heartburn. I had heartburn all day, and the DH on the back of my knees acted up some. Since I was basically testing my reaction...
  17. Though I'm still new'ish to this myself, I find probiotics tend to be more helpful for me than trying to increase my fiber. I just got some Udo's choice adult probiotics yesterday. However, for fiber you could try Psyllium husks powder -- which is the same thing that metamucil uses, but without the flavorings. I have a 12 oz container of it here and the...
  18. I know I have woken up with blocked ears, which appears to be due to dermatitis herpetiformis (DH). I'd actually had that issue many years before, but not quite the same back then (it didn't have itchiness and weepy-ness). I saw a Dr. about it and he suggested to try an anti-histamine to see if that would unblock it, as it might be due to some inflammation...
  19. I know when I've looked at Tazo teas, I haven't seen any ingredients listed. That's why I've opted for Stash teas, which do list ingredients, in addition to my 'regular' Red Rose tea which is just 100% black tea. I also saw a thread that said that Stash has confirmed their teas are gluten-free. In case that helps!
  20. Those Cheetos may actually (note I said *may*) confirm my msg suspicion, I wasn't aware they were gluten-free, and they're on the list of Open Original Shared Link products that don't contain MSG; but their web page says they are produced on the same line as products that do contain msg, and they are washed between batches. "Although the lines are washed...
  21. lol, at least we all understand brain fog on here, eh!?
  22. I have a theory about MSG and related items (glutamates) causing DH to flare up, and I recently saw a thread about riceworks chips that adds a bit to that theory. Check out: Open Original Shared Link as well as Open Original Shared Link to see what foods or ingredients may be suspect. I'd be interested in your observations about whether any of that might...
  23. DH is dermatitis herpetiformis, which is basically celiac disease of the skin. Those of us with DH generally have fewer intestinal problems, but lean more toward the neurological issues. At least from what I've gathered in the couple of months I've been researching that topic. As for MSG, I've known that I can't tolerate that for years. My reactions are...
  24. I use a program called Open Original Shared Link (which is the X Windows version for those of us that use Linux), and for Win users there's Open Original Shared Link which works great for storing passwords. I just remember the one password, and it's easy to back up the database. Where I used to work I had a Word doc that I password protected to keep my list...
  25. I had a bad reaction to Pop Chips too, though I was very new to eating gluten-free at the time. I noticed they were very salty, so it may be the salt and the low iodine diet on thyca (for those of us with DH) says to avoid salty foods since they may use iodized salt. However, I think it's possible in my case that it's more of an MSG reaction. Whether they...
