  1. We did get tested at first but will not continue until symptoms. 30% of people carry it and yet they don't get tested every year. My other daughter has been tested twice and we will probably test her every 3 years. My husband says he will not do anything different if he has it. (Roll eyes). Actually I read an article that less than 50% of people who have...
  2. My dh has type 1 but no celiac (as of now). My celiac daughter has no symptoms either. I wonder if there is a connection. My daughters genes are the same as his dq 2 and 8. We have been told that we are lucky to find the celiac first and by going gluten-free we may be reducing the risk if type 1. We also take 1000 mg of vitamin d due to recent diabetic research...
  3. The risk if lymphoma and infertility is why I keep my 12 year old silent celiac gluten free. She could eat a loaf of bread with no problem. I understand how 98% are undiagnosed. However, sometimes I wonder if I have traded one cancer risk for another. I cook her food on aluminum foil and supposedly that's bad. She also eats rice in some form almost every...
  4. Oh and I find pumpkin with the canned fruit and pie filing. That's where it was in our publix.
  5. I should have put a disclaimer: They dont turn out like regular muffins. They are kinda ugly on top because the shape they go in comes out. They don't end up smooth. Someone made these with reg cake mix for a women's get together and they were all snatched up. I decided to try it with gluten free. I made mini muffins because they are kinda dense and heavy...
  6. 1 box yellow Betty Crocker gluten-free cake mix 1 reg can Libby's pumpkin Cinnamon chips or chocolate chips If you can find the cinnamon chips they are so much better. I buy several because I can only find them in the fall! Mix everything together. No liquid needed. Just those 3 things and bake according to the cupcake directions on cake mix (about...
  7. Make sure you get your thyroid checked. It can cause late puberty and hair issues.
  8. I second everyone. First have his thyroid tested. My dd developed low thyroid at 7 and didn't grow for a year. Our pediatrician had thyroid cancer herself so she could spot a problem. I just mentioned that I thought she was shorter than she should be. They found the thyroid. She tested negative to celiac at that time and then positive 4 years later. The genes...
  9. I found lots of gluten-free fair food at ours in August. They had taco in a bag (open fritos and put in taco stuff) I made them show me the seasoning and it was McCormick and safe. They had snow cones and cotton candy. Oh and don't forget chocolate covered bacon. Ha! Seriously! I skipped on that! The only thing my dd really wanted was a funnel cake. But...
  10. Is this ok? My daughters pediatric gi has done a repeat biopsy and blood test that both show damage is healed and in normal range. She said there is no reason to do a yearly blood test. Why pay for a test when i am doing everything humanly possible to keep her safe? She said she does them only on kids and parents who are not compliant or that she questions...
  11. I jumped through all the hoops to sign it. If it is to label gluten in medicine, I am all for it. I am hoping nothing crazy was thrown in there. : ) I had to wait so long to hear back from a manufacterer of allergy medicine for my dd that allergy season was almost over!
  12. Everything she just said.
  13. Did they test his thyroid? That showed up 4 years before the celiac in my dd. she was 7 when they found it. She went from 50% to 21% on growth. That was her only symptom. Oh and my dds celiac was only found in the duodenal bulb. All other biopsies showed normal. Thankfully the support group had me specifically request that spot.
  14. My husband is an only child and really doesn't have many close friends. He is perfectly fine by himself. He was a youth pastor for several years and just identified with the teenagers more. They were his buddies. We recently changed churches and so he had to find some "grown up" friends. I crack up at him because he is a salesman who can talk to anyone...
  15. thanks guys...these are great! Keep um' coming!
  16. I am horrible about having at least one night where I have no idea what we are eating for dinner. Those nights the hubby stops by publix because their rotisserie chicken is gluten-free and in a dedicated oven. What do you guys do? I could use last minute ideas with kids in sports!
  17. Sorry for typos. I am on my phone and apparently have monster thumbs.
  18. So glad you have an answer. There are a lot if apps that can help you. One had a bar scanner until you feel comfortable reading labels. I used scanavert. It was $2 a month and I used it for 2 months. If you ate biopsy confirmed the university of Chicago Celiac Center will send you a free gift package. It's all the gluten-free processed foods but was about...
  19. My dd is lactose intolerant and that gives get loose stools sometimes. She hates lactaid and says "I'll just suffer the consequences". Haha. It doesn't cramp do she doesn't care. Congrats on his numbers! You are doing a great job!
  20. My family gags on soft corn tortillas used to make quesadillas. We like the rice ones much better. It took us months to even find out they existed. We find them in the frozen gluten-free bread section of Publix. Just thought I'd throw that out there.
  21. I agree with getting the GI to send over the order. They do it all the time. And request like someone else said that he asks for the WHOLE panel. (EMA included) Some labs won't do EMA unless Ttg is positive so not sure how that really works. I asked my ped. to test her since she has Hashimotos and dad is type 1 diabetic. She did it with no problem....
  22. Chick filet is the only place I can go through a drive thru and feel safe. They ate the only ones with a gluten free kids meal. They have grilled nuggets and they get them with tongs and not gloves. Although I have told them of her allergy and they changed gloves anyway. Their chick filet nugget sauce is addicting! Kinda like a BBQ and honey mustard mix...
  23. Can I ask what they are doing for your eosinophils? My df has them in her eosphagus. Her celiac is under control but not those. She has no symptoms and usually food will get stuck. We are already avoiding gluten, peas, beans, apples, pork, mustard , and tree nuts. It was not enough. Biopsy last week wasn't good. We don't know if we should further restrict...
  24. Do you have problems with them or is this just something your doctor tells all celiac patients? Our first opinion told us no gluten or dairy despite my dd having zero symptoms. While I understand that some have issues with it until they heal, my dd did not. The second opinion said to let her have dairy. Ignore this if you have issues but I dont like a one...
  25. I had another celiac tell me she tolerates it just fine do I did order one this weekend for my daughter. I did ask for a manager and told him I wanted him to make it and make sure the screen was clean. He did tell me about same oven, etc but would be extra careful. They do not make their own dough so there isn't flour being thrown up I'm the air. My dd did...
